WDW 2010: Same old pixie dust?

I must be lucky, I've never had a problem with Spidey effects not working.

Of course I've never seen the Angler in Nemo, hopping Brer Rabbit, or a lot of other temperamental effects broken at Disney.

I suppose it could just be me, but it sure seems like I've heard the the same thing from plenty of other people. Almost every time I go on it, at least a couple of the screens are painfully out of focus, if not several, and I've been on it several times when one or two of the screens are completely off. I've been through it a few times with audio missing, a couple times with music missing, and a couple times with lots of dialogue missing, and a couple times a combination of both. Been through it once where the motion base didn't move. It's rare to see the 'Spider-Signal' working. To be fair, yes, there are effects at Disney that are notorious for not working, notably Nemo and Everest, but at least those aren't the basis of the experience that the ride relies on, as it is with Spider-Man. Even with the Yeti not working, you can still enjoy its presence in some form, not to speak of just enjoying the coaster and its atmosphere.

Hey! Actually the project is moving along relatively smooth. We have been cycling some of those behemoth vehicles and most of the show systems and scenic are in place. Disney will need to step up their game if they hope to have a chance at having the best ride in Orlando, much less the world.

We don't have an "official" date but let's just say that May is looking real promising for Forbidden Journey.

Sounds awesome. Right in time for me to head down to Florida for the summer months.:D

My trips to IOA since 1999 have only seen one missing effect from Spider-Man.

I used to be big into Universal so I knew what effects to look out for.

I don't think he needs a body guard. No I don't have a crush on '74 like you seem to jt04. I do find his post interesting, as well as provocative. They certainly seem to generate a lot of responses. You follow him from post to post like a stalker. I'm starting to think there are a click of WDW1974 groupies here.

Oh c'mon, don't you have at least a small man-crush on me:)?

I see you are back to your usual tactics of putting down other Disney forums, and members of that community. That really becomes you jt04 That puts you in a league with mousermerf, and Ghostbuster/Enigma/Conundrum. You should be very proud of yourself.

Everytime '74 post something there is a certain group of people here that flock to it for the sole purpose of making the topic of the thread all about WDW1974 rather than discussing WDW.

They should be shot!

Seriously, this is a common way of avoiding the discussion. I guess I shouldn't point out that I was a state champion debater now, right?

It's a classic tactic of feeble minds. Just change the focus off something you have little or no knowledge of.

FWIW, it's exactly what Disney is doing right now by its non-announcement announcement of Shanghai DL today. One that got major play in the REAL media, but barely any at all on most fan forums in the USA. Here's what I posted about it on a board that no one ever reads on this site a few minutes ago:

<<You notice how quiet things are in here?

The BIGGEST news on the Disney parks front in a very long time and more fanbois are interested in planters, fountains and rest rooms in T-Land at MK.

Now, to most of us 'insiders' this park/resort has been a given for quite a while ... we also realize that Disney had a strategic reason for putting the whole word (which really says NOTHING AT ALL) now with 2009 annual results about to come out. No matter how poor Disney's 09 has been, it will be all spin now ... DCL debuts Dream, ABC improves with 4-5 genuine hits, and now Shanghai is almost/sorta/kinda a reality.

Oh well, I doubt many folks here will ever set foot in it. I plan on being there on opening day! >>

Focus on the part about Disney's 2009 annual results. You see when Iger and Staggs have to discuss them with the Street analysts and media, they're going to simply talk about Shanghai DL and the Disney Dream and Modern Family/Cougartown/Flash Forward and Marvel and The Princess and the Frog ... and maybe even WDW's Fantasyland project. ... In other words, anything that takes people's minds off the matter at hand: 2009 financials.

So, in that respect, my fans here have good company at discussing everything except the matter at hand.

In many ways, crucial ways, WDW has been stagnating for years, living off its past rep, and marketing pixie dust.

When with four major parks and a 30,000-plus acre resort, there is absolutely nothing of substance happening in 2010 (no, walls for projects opening years away don't count when there's been years of neglect and stagnation) that speaks volumes.

But hey, anyone want to talk about TTA lighting? How about new timeshares?

Please tell me why there is not one insider at this site or any other that says '74 doesn't know what he's talking about. You can certainly disagree with a persons point of view about something without making it so personal. Believe me jt04, it's very obvious that it's all very personal with you. It really gets kind of embarrassing when so many people in this forum address you as some kind of buffon.

That's because many of them know. They may never admit it, but they can sense it. Even most feeble minds can tell when someone is talking out of their and when someone knows what they're talking about, even if they don't agree, even if sometimes they cringe at what may be written

It would have been so simple for anyone here to address the thread topic without bringing in comments about their own personal opinions about the poster.

Yeah. But what fun would that have been. Besides, you know they love me here ... they really, really love me!:ROFLOL::p:kiss:

By the way. I didn't see you or any of the other people that think WDW1974 is so negative posting in his report on his latest trip to WDW.
I believed how he discussed the trip being one of the best he's ever made.

Yeah. That died a quick death, didn't it? And you don't get many folks wanting to hear comments about my GREAT, FANTASTIC AND DARE I SAY IT? MAGICAL visits to DLP and DL a month ago either. And as stale as WDW is, I'm still planning a holiday visit too!

But I'm just all negative on The Mouse ... yeah, sure ... and Big Business really cares about the average American family too!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Anyway jt04, keep up the good work.

I often wonder what this place would be like without him around ... dare I say even more magical!:king::drevil::wave:

You can`t compare Potter and TLM. That`s like putting Spiderman and iasw head to head.

But that's what folks will do. Forget the fact that HP will be open come Memorial Day weekend (was I supposed to say that?, whylightbulb) with Mermaid not opening until 2012 (I doubt Disney will pull the kind of efforts that UNI is demanding to make sure they own the summer of 2010 and the fall ... and ...) ... But I do like the analogy, Martin!:)

Potter could well rewrite the theme park attraction experience if it all comes together.

Yep. This absolutely could be a game-changer. But, even if it is, many Disney fans will likely begrudge it because it doesn't have the Disney 'magic'. Of course if JK had gotten into bed with the Weatherman, then they'd all be wetting their pants at the possibilities. Kind of like what's happening with the Marvel deal.

Oh well, it looks like I'll have to add a UNI AP again to my current collection.

The biggest park gain per guest participation was Tomorrowland in 1973-5; not just fancy landscaping and meet n greets but Star Jets, Carousel of Progress, Space Mountain and the WEDway Peoplemover AND The Lunching Pad. Plus this was right on the heels of Caribbean Plaza. As if that wasn`t enough, The Walt Disney Story and Tom Saywer Island both opened during the period, and Flight to the Moon received an extreme refurb at the same time.

And did I mention the oil crisis and tourist attendence plummiting when it was all green lit?

Fantasyland North is welcome don`t get me wrong, but one new ride, one relocated mini-ride, one probable mini-ride overlay, more eateries and a bunch of meet n greets is a bit underwhelming.

I got nothing to add here, other than my very first Spirited visit happened in this period and it was pure 100% non-marketing MAGIC.

I just thought it deserved repeating again because some folks here don't read or comprehend what is being said.

What I love about the Little Mermaid is that we don't know much about it - except its going to be spectacular. An Eticket, $100million+, full of Animatronics, and is an omni-mover. I can't wait to have another Pirates and Haunted Mansion calibre experience. It's been way too long since something like this has been built, and I'm very interested to see how a 2011 version of a classic style Disney attraction can be built.

I'll be very interested to see Potter, however, I'm always scepticle of Universal actually delivering what they hype.

Should be an exciting couple of years ahead for Orlando! :)

Well, we don't know that Mermaid is going to be spectacular. We hope it, we want to believe it, but we don't know it. I can't imagine it not being very nice.

But I don't think it'll be a game-changer, Potter has the ability. Of course, many folks in Disney Fanboi World don't believe Universal can do anything right ... those would be the ones that believe Test Track is a better attraction than Spidey or that Buzz Lightyear is more magical than Men In Black etc ...

It's just you. Really, I go to IoA almost monthly, always ride Spider man and it's always working. All of it.
I can't wait to see what is inside that massive new show building under the Hogwarts facade, and I could care less about the Potter brand.

I`ve seen 2 screens off during the Spidy ascent once - I told the unload member, he got on the phone then walked us around to get right back on - and they were working.

Right now all of Uni is on a reduced smoke and fire budget, even so the smoke corridor had a good amount of mist - good enough for the effect - and the explosion was working too.

I`ve never not seen the Spidy signal. Sorry. Must be you!

Here's my take on Potter Land v. Fantasy Forest:

Potter Land has more upside. In other words, if Potter Land ends up being everything it could be, it will blow FL away.

If FL ends up being everything it could be, it will at best equal the Potter Land upgrade.

So I think the ball is in Harry Potter's court in this fight. Kind of like Tiger Woods facing Phil Mickelson: They're both really great, but everyone knows it's Tiger's fight to lose.

I had been waiting for that...and that's exactly the problem. Disney is only "Disney" now because of the name itself. They live off that and with good reason...It still works for them, seeing what a force and presence (a spirit, maybe? :) ) they used to be in the entertainment world.

By no means, do I no longer think they are that, but they have lost a bit of the old charm from that past. Do I think they can gain it back? Yes. They are trying. D23 and several other things, like TLM is a indication of that. So is PaTF, if you want to look at the studios. Looking at them this way, I'm realistically optimistic for them. Honestly, I am. They have a LARGE opportunity here to write a few wrongs if they approach them in a right way....Or begin to approach them in a right way. I know somethings have had a rocky start...:lookaroun

However...if we opened a park along the same lines as a Disney Park today, and without the name "DISNEY" attached to it (is that why everything is Disney's now? Disney's Hollywood? Disney's Poly Resort? Do they want to attach the name just for the brand, but without the quality?) but run by the same standards of TODAY's Disney...It would be shunned, almost, I think. It would be generic. It wouldn't be Disney, not only in name, but in quality too.

Kinda sad, if you think about it...:(

I'm not stalking him, I'm just keeping it real.

Your list seems accurate and captures his viewpoint. Obviously I think he is stuck in the Eisner era and refuses to see the trends.

And it's not just this thread that becomes "all about him" it's everything in the Disney realm.

Proof too much pixie dust in your youth may not be a good thing. :zipit::lol:
