Twinkle Lights Returning to Hub in MK

The park needs an area to put people in to watch the shows. The more people that can fit in to the center means less people blocking the appropriate walkways. I don't happen to find trees or flowers magical. They're fine where they belong but not in the middle of a space that should be completely open with zero sight line obstacles.

Zero sight line obstacles? If there's anywhere in the park that has the most sight line obstacles it is the hub where you can see 4 entrances to different themed lands.

Only in the winter when all deciduous trees look the same. Spring and Fall the plans will be at Peak Season and the pricing will reflect that.
I'm assuming the rose gardens at the MK and Epcot will be closed off and used for separately-ticketed, up-charge events when the roses are in bloom? $45 seems reasonable for an hour w/ the roses, a glass of tea (in a paper cup) and 3 cookies. Call it Mickey's Magical Enchanted Fairytale Garden High Tea. Before soon, we'll have 50 threads here discussing the MMEFGHT and whether or not it's "worth it."

Can anyone answer this for me? When did the trees really start to disappear in the Hub? What year?

Wishes was the driving factor behind the trees being removed. For the first time, MK had a big nighttime show that also featured low level pyro, and the sight-lines were obscured by all the trees.

And The Magic, the Memories, and You has only cemented that issue.

It looks like there will be plenty of (welcome) foliage for us to enjoy in the Fantasyland Expansion.

And another one. When did Disney really start to push the PhotoPass?

It was due to Wishes. The trees were removed in 2003 when Wishes was started.

Then more trees (near Main street side) were also removed to give the projectors the sight lines they needed for the projection show.

Yes, in all aspects of FLE, including the Rapunzel restrooms. Lots of trees are being added to the north half of the park.

The answer to this is to have more shows...not bigger shows. You customize the show schedule to the venue. Not spoil the venue to accommodate the show. Especially when the venue IS the show.

But then we wouldn't have the castle projection shows and people would complain that not all the pyro is visible in the fireworks shows.

The castle show, while technically impressive, is boring as hell and not many people really care about viewing photos of strangers anyway. ... And the MK operated from 1971-2003 with great pyro shows and no need to butcher all the mature trees from Town Square to the Hub.

People will complain about anything ... doncha know that's what my fans like to say about me!

It never had been...why should it now? Why do we need to see where it comes from - just the end result.

A properly choreographed show does not require that every one see every launch.

The whole show would be better with a setting that compliments the park instead of the fireworks launchings.

The argument that people would complain because they were standing underneath a tree just does not hold water.

I have to disagree; to me, the pictures of other people are only incidental to the whole visual of the castle constantly transforming into different looks.

Perhaps I'm just a technology buff, but I find it amazing.

The tech is being wasted in O-Town. Take a trip to Paris if you want to see what can be done with it ... and HKDL did some amazing stuff with it in 2010 for its Halloween pyro show.

I'd compare MK's use of it to TT vs. JTTCoTE or RSRs ... just technology versus heart and soul and, dare I say, Spirit!

Nearly. The trees actually stayed - although pruned - until the hub redesign that reopened in spring 2005.

Ya know, as much as I love Wishes!, the low level pyro causes more problems than it's worth. It really limits where you can stand to get a good view - too far down MS toward the train station and the MS buildings block it; too far forward into the hub and the castle blocks it. That makes the area at the end of MS before the hub a nightmare because that's where everyone wants to be. I think I'd rather have them put the trees back with twinkle lights and re-work the night time fireworks so that everything is high enough to where you can see no matter where you are.

I enjoy the creativity implemented with the Wishes era of pyro at the MK. I also enjoy the perimeter fireworks used in special displays. I encourage Disney to continue to utilize these effects, and to introduce new and innovative nighttime show techniques.

Anyone can shoot off fireworks from a single bunker a half mile away, but it takes ingenuity to shoot fireworks off from unexpected places, and to integrate pyrotechnics with video, sound, lighting and yet-to-be-introduced effects.

Too bad Disneyland can do that in their nightly fireworks.. (surround fireworks..) but MK only does it for special holidays...
