Twinkle Lights Returning to Hub in MK

???

The trees looked great when they were in the hub, it helped to separate the castle from main street and add perspective. What is their now looks bald and horiffic.

Nah. They blocked the view of the fireworks and stage shows. Removing them also improved traffic flow through the area. I would really like to see everything removed from the hub to improve traffic flow even further and create a massive viewing area for shows.

Be careful, remove the trees, then it would become too hot and they would have to put in tarps like at Epcot FutureWorld.

I would say they could develop high quality artificial trees (with twinkle lights built-in) just for these areas, this would allow for control of the castle's forced perspective (Similar to Pooh's house in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh queue, or the ones in Splash Mountain) However, WDW hasn't had the greatest luck with giant fake trees. (I'm looking at you netting around the Tree Of Life)

The Swiss Family Treehouse is still standing. If they can just keep the guests from picking the leaves.

Sounds great...nothing like a vast flat area of concrete...sort of like standing in the parking lot at your local mall. So magical

edit: Your post kind of loses it's punch after moderation.

Yes. I think that was a bit of some weak moderation. But I don't get to decide what stays ... I just know I didn't use any bad words, didn't take any personal shots etc. I think I compared the castle to a giant phallic symbol in some fun way (I don't fully recall it now, but I guess someone somewhere could have been offended) ... but I actually just came across this great column on the destruction of the Hub (as well as other BAD design choices at WDW of late): http://www.mouseplanet.com/10000/Th...d_The_Place_Will_Get_More_Beautiful_Each_Year

I actually want to email the writer since he so perfectly hit on what's wrong with the current 'bare' (I hope I can say that) look of MSUSA and the Castle since the place was denuded of foliage.

So, you don't really care about the design principles that created the MK? And why the Hub even exists?

Why don't we just take half the MK out? Or at least any trees, fountains, planters, etc ... Just wide hot concerete walkways. Really wouldn't that be MAGICal?

Then, it will certainly improve traffic flow and we can increase those double-wide strollers to triple-wides.

BTW, just so we are clear I think your idea is truly moronic.

They just don't get it, they absolutely don't get it ... and that's ultimately why they don't get the same level of quality as Disney provides at other resorts.

Is it true that there are still no longer any trees on the right hand side of MS since the refurb? If so, that could be intentional then. And, could be a sign that they intend to remove the trees on the left hand side too.

I should hope not. MS looks dumb and fake without trees, like a dollhouse. We need more trees, in the hub too, with nice sparkling magic lights.

Small trees have been planted as of this weekend all up and down Main Street. They will grow... Main Street isn't going tree-less..

Yep, but just how small and how big can they grow?

I ask because this is FL and trees grow very fast (like a fanbois waist after a steady diet of turkey legs!), yet they planted saplings (sorta like what you see near any strip center in Central FLA) in Town Square about 7-8 years ago and they haven't grown more than a few inches.

If these are just little green trees, then they might as well not be there ...and you should know pretty quickly if that's the case.

They looked of decent size to me, and look like they will fill out nicely. But I am no tree expert. ;)

What ever happened to the tree arboretum, you know the one that supposedly had a duplicate tree for every tree planted in the park.

Sadly I believe that went away when Raluso took the helm and deemed it an un-nessecary expense ... that with about every other 'frivolous' perk people loved.

They just recently removed the Town Sqaure trees and replaced them with something else. I'm no arborist so I have no idea what they are. But they look strange.

Yeah I noticed that too...maybe some kind of magnolia or something southern, that doesn't look right given the setting.

Whats interesting to me also is that fans/guests would even be concerned about "traffic flow". If you are thinking about traffic flow while in the hub, then something is certainly not right. That is for the designers and ops people to figure out and implement. Maybe since the hub feels like a giant hot parking lot, that the vibe that visitors are getting - traffic.

Anyway, just saying that people often cite Disney's operational (and financial) needs as a justification to damage the guest experience. It's Disney's job to come up with creative ways to allow visitors to see fireworks and improve flow without destroying the very setting/experience visitors came for, not yours or mine. The fact that it seems like they are unable/unwilling to do so only speaks to the problem.
