I never understood what the TTA narration was supposed to be in reference to. I mean what were the influences on that particular style? radio dramas and the Jetsons?
Its not a reference to anything - its a public transportation system in a science-fiction-y city in the future. Public transportation systems announce the next stop they are arriving at.

Also, please explain why, since I don't like this new narration at all, I "don't know any better."

I just had to add that I always loved the People Mover, and I didn't care for the name change, but it was still kind of the same theme. Now, I honestly have to say, I hate the new narration. It sounds way too childish, the old ones had the feel of that you were somewhere you had be told very clearly what was going on ... "Now approaching, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress" I will definitely miss that  But I guess things do, and always will change

Nope, DL's used tires for propulsion.
Really? I wonder why they did it differently in Orlando. I thought Disney promoted the "no moving parts" aspect of the PeopleMover as a way that the system saved energy.

My mistake.:)
Why would you say something so condescending before even bothering to get your facts straight?
I was not condescending. I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong. You, sir, need to calm down, and stop being condescending to me.

Mitch you do realize that this narration is very similar to how it was back when it was called the peoplemover?

They designed it differently in Orlando because of the Progress City project I believe.

yes, I know. It was quite similar, but since I was a kid I guess I didn't notice  Sorry, sometimes I like to complain, for no real reason  One thing they didn't have on the good old People Mover was the toon voices :lookaroun

I've heard some folks say that the new TTA narration is the first step in a re-themeing of Tomorrowland. What exactly are they re-themeing it into? The only time Tomorrowland ever had any semblance of thematic unity was after the 1994 refurb when Alien Encounter and Timekeeper were operating. Those two attractions, along with the TTA and the Astro Orbiter, all fit the "Flash Gordon comic book future city" theme that the refurb was designed to introduce.

Once AE and TK closed, Tomorrowland went back to being what it was before 1994: a dumping ground for stuff that didn't really fit anywhere else (if anyone can tell me what the frak If You Had Wings or the CircleVision films had to do with the traditional TL themes of the future and space travel, I'll give you a dollar) I seriously doubt that Disney is going to evict the toons; BLSRS is too popular, they spent too much money on the Laugh Floor to abandon it so quickly, and they're so determined to cram Stitch down our throats at all costs that I don't see SGE going anywhere no matter how unpopular it is.

So what else can Disney do to re-theme Tomorrowland? And how is the new TTA narration an indication of where they might go with such a project?

:( Sadly, you are completely right. I am all for a re-theme of TL if it doesn't involve the characters as it does now. The land was perfect when TK and AE and even BLRSS were around. Definitely one of the better lands at the MK. Unfortunately, MILF, SGE and SSC have ruined whatever cohesiveness the land deserves.

One thing I do not want to see however, is the return of the 70's era TL. It may have looked good then but no one nowadays will buy into that stereotypical, polished white future.

I do want Sci-Fi City though.:lookaroun:lol:

DLs PM was a direct development of the Ford 64WF pavilions ride system. WDW was trying a prototype new system with a mind to this being the showcase for it.

34 years later it is still a system of the future. The only moving parts are the car wheels and doors. DL had a wheel and motor every few feet to malfunction. The WEDway can run with 40% of its LIMs out of action (over length of path) and still maintain 100% capacity.

Why didn't it catch on with city transportation and consumers?

Wow thats facinating. :D

Could Orlando's WEDway be enclosed?
There is concept art for them for Progress City i believe.

WIthout going into detail again it was installed in Houston Airport in 1981, then the specialised section of WED was sold to Bombardier not long after.

Remember it very nearly went into LBV as well.

Horrible analogy. Haunted Mansion was in some pretty bad shape in some parts. They merely fixed it up, enchanced the audio, and added scenes to places where there was nothing worth looking at. They didn't "change" the ride. Imagine had they changed the narration. People would have been up in arms.

Again, the problem here isn't just the changing of audio on a specific ride. It's the changing of the audio for an entire land. The TTA spiel could be heard all through Tomorrowland and added a lot to the atmosphere.
Exactly. They could have done the same here, but choose not to. I hope it means something.
2 Observations about the new spiel that I haven't seen anywhere else on the thread:

#1 - The new narrator sounds familiar.. I believe it may be the same narrator as "Living with the land". the voice isn't as deep, but that could be a difference in speakers, recording techniques, and mixing..

#2 - The new narration refers to the attraction as a 'People Mover' about mid-way through.. pretty good stuff..
Hmmm! You might be right there. He sounds like the Planning DVD narrator too.
that site= win. I just went nuts on there.
I always thought that a PM works off of moving belts and tires while the TTA works off of magnets

You're mistaken. DL's old People Mover and the TTA both use linear induction motors.
Nope, DL uses tires. Goodyear tires. :D;)

Wow. A goal of E.P.C.O.T. And of EPCOT Center...

WHY was the never put in CCore, again...?

Looks like we lost a long time troll again.

Interesting. I was hoping it would be more prevalent in large cities. (NY, SF, etc.)
