Damn...it was only a matter of time...I've decided after months of Jessica Fletcher like sleuthing, that Lee and '74 are actually the same person.

Nobody is arguing and welcome to the discussion.
My point is, IPs are a major part of theme parks these days. And i'm saying is that Disney has hands down the best IPs and that contributes to their success. But again, it's only part of it. (wish I would have said this earlier)
Damn...it was only a matter of time...
Disney is a right of passage because the early days of it's existence put that in the mindset of many Americans. I think it's reasonable to say that the homogenization and blatant cash grabs have resulted in the parks evolving and a Disney vacation is no longer viewed as a "right of passage". I think Disney has hurt the brand to the point where a Disney World trip is no longer romanticized the same way it used to be.
Disney is acquiring IP for reasons other than lack of theme park attraction ideas. As it has been stated Disney's best work was not attached to IP. You should head over to http://www.disneyhistoryinstitute.com/. Walt started DL by hiring movie writers, set producers, and composers. They created the IP and much of that actually became movie and merchandise IP after the ride.
Disney today is just obsessed in some ways with the idea of synergy. They want to tie everything together and essentially double down on a particular 'investment'. There will always be a place for IP inspired attractions but that isn't what makes them good. What makes them good is the combination of the ride experience and storytelling (which can be entirely new and exclusive IP).
Also to those who think the problem is that WDI can't create non IP attractions is off base. Look at DCA and Buena Vista Street or pretty much all of TDS. I really need to go see TDS, it looks extraordinary and detail oriented.
But...I'm considerably taller and less....folicularly challenged. Not quite. But there are some folks here that ... well, they have multiple personality disorder (or there just is multiple people posting under one screen name) ... and that doesn't even include folks with multiple accounts.
(BTW, I am MUCH better looking than Lee ... smarter too ... better personality ... better connections ... the one thing he has on me is the better singing voice ... oh, and I think he is better at determining what road kill was before it was ... well, smushed!)
I gladly concede that one. Unless its iced tea, 'cause I can flat put that stuff away, Jack!Oh, I also can drink Lee under the table too!

Here is my thoughts....IP gets people in the gates..quality attractions get them coming back, IP or not (as others mentioned, above a certain age group).
Ugh, it's my dream to visit Tokyo DisneySea...Once you visit TDS, NOTHING in O-Town will be seen in the same light ... least of all Disney's 'No. 1' theme park in the world.
It is freaking over the top amazing in every way (except it does suffer from merchandise issues, just different ones than WDW!)
WDW is losing people because of prices. Most people simply can't afford to go to WDW every year or even once every few years. They go once when Little Johnny is 7 and Little Sue is 5, dump a lot of cash getting a room at Caribbean Beach Resort, on a meal at Cinderella's Royal Table, and dressed up the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. They then spend the next 4 years paying off their credit card debt for their week at the place where dreams come true. Now Johnny is 11 and Sue is 9. They might want to go back again but Mom and Dad are not sure they want to go through another 4 years of debt, especially since a trip to WDW now costs 30% more than the last one, there is nothing at WDW that's really calling to them because the kids are older and their tastes have matured, while WDW keeps targeting the kiddie patrol.I think were WDW has lost people is it is rapidly falling off as a "annual family vacation" type of tradition. It's still a rite of passage, but now it's "go once and then do something else" not repeated trips.
If that's your conclusion then you suck at sleuthing. lolI've decided after months of Jessica Fletcher like sleuthing, that Lee and '74 are actually the same person.

I don't think anyone would have said that...I don't even think it was a bad idea by Disney to acquire it even if it was a knee jerk reaction to Potter. I'd would however have been fairly confident universal would have built it better and been willing to spend the money to make it a good quality lasting land regardless of how the films do. I have less confidence in Disney in regards to that at the moment with their cut cut cut! happy culture. To those who think Disney acquiring avatar was a bad idea, I bet u guys would freak if universal acquired it and say "Disney missed another great opportunity and how you believe it could of been a potter swatter"
I just wish TDO would take that 400-500 million and use it towards ride maintenance around the world. It's just getting worse and worse. Aghhh!!!!400-500 million is definitely more than the great model of green nothingness we saw yesterday.
Star Wars additions make so much sense. I just wish they'd light a fire under the development.
