Ticket Price Increase

Disney won't suffer one bit. The parks will be getting a record-setting influx of South American tour groups this summer (as mentioned in a different thread), more foreign visitors from much better economies than the U.S. I do not see WDW suffering one bit, despite any backlash against price hikes. The way I see it for me & my family, it is actually a good thing. If it was too affordable to go to WDW for a week...you'd be rubbing elbows with the not-so-pleasing (a.k.a. lower class) travelers whom I would much rather NOT be in line with, or having sleep in the resort room next to mine. As Pumbas mentioned in a different thread...it isn't a right to go to WDW. For people who cannot afford it...there are other alternatives for them to have fun with their families.

But despite the new increases, a trip to WDW is still very reasonable. You do not HAVE to stay on property, our ourchase expensive souvenirs. There are ways to cut back spending to help balance out admission costs.

I understand people's initial uproar after the increase announcement. But in time, the dust will settle, and folks will be planning trips & piling in the park gates like usual. It always happens that way. Looking at the popularity of the 4 theme parks...Disney made the right decision.

I'm flipping WDW off right now...wish they could see it. Another year, another increase...and this time 3 bucks more on a single day ticket? Are you kidding me? so basically it's more than $90 after taxes for ONE DAY at a park??? Insane. I have a vacation week in a little over a week and planned to spend three of the days at WDW, two at Universal, and one at Busch Gardens. Now I don't even know if I want to spend the money to go to Disney at all. Maybe I'll just save towards later this year when I go to California again. Good job TDO...once again my money is heading to the other coast since you keep ripping us off.:mad::mad:

Are you really that sore over $3?

Well, apparently all your money can't buy you proper grammar.

Nor class.

I am LOLing at the idea that price increases are keeping the "lower class" out of the parks. WDW has always brought in some pretty interesting cross sections of society and will continue to do so.

The economy is still in the trash, if you pay attention to what is going on....these aren't small inflation increases, these are major price hikes.

I can't even believe that they hit people with these two days before they go into effect, and with the parks showing big profits already with some serious problems to fix.

Fear not, however. They will probably just continue to heavily discount, completely invalidating the prices yet again.

Very classy Disney, very classy indeed.

Things that make you go HMMMM!

Seriously? Wow. Talk about delusions of grandeur.

By the way, there are other vacation options for people that would prefer avoiding the lower classes. The Travel channel runs a lot of shows about the world's most exclusive and expensive resorts.

Our trip is booked but not paid for, so will our total go up?

As long as your trip is booked and your deposit has been paid, any components in that package are locked in including tickets, assuming that they were a part of your vacation package to start with. Marie

Apparently they have been telling CM's in team meetings that the AP discounts are going to be reduced, not enhanced. I'm surprised that they even have merch discounts now - they didn't back when I was originally an AP holder in the 00's.

If this is true, then good luck to them filling all those rooms! As everyone knows, rooms have been heavily discounted the past few years, not just for APers or FL residents, but also the general public. Execs have publicly talked about reducing the discounts for years now, and it hasn't really happened. They have backed themselves into a corner now, since they have raised resort prices SO high, that they only way they can keep their occupancy rates up is to discount them.

I'm sure you feel like people who stay at the value resorts shouldn't be there as well. Sorry that not everyone is wealthy and can afford to pay $85 a day per family member.

I'll just continue going to the local six flags where I belong.

I liked when you bought your tickets there was no expiration date and you could use them at every park. There never use to be a park hopper. I also think there needs to be a break for ages 10 to 16. A child isn't an adult after age 9. I know it is all about the bottom line, money, but I don't agree with there ticket options. What difference does it matter if you use the tickets now or 2 years down the line, they have your money in advance. I still have a child's ticket from the 80's. I wonder how that would work if a grandchild would use it.

I also don't like the way Disney attractions now end in souvenier shops. The lesser parks use to do this. I was shocked when Disney sank to their level. We always called them stick me stores. I think I bought more before than now.

Enough of my band wagon.

Year after year we react exactly like this when prices go up. We hope and hope
and hope some more that the increases will help reinvest the parks, but year after
year each one of us knows that it does not.

I'm at the Boardwalk right now, and after seeing so many broken effects on many major attractions and without much coming on the horizon outside of the (what appears to me as an overblown and not too exciting) Fantasyland Expansion, Disney has some serious nerve announcing a price increase now.

Now if this money is going to be reinvested into the park, then that's one thing. But I don't get that feeling. This vacation has made me feel like current management cares much more about doing things on the cheap as opposed to enhancing the guest experience to help spread word of mouth. I've had a great time on this trip admittingly, but I just got the feeling too often that those in charge feel like the state of the parks is "Well that's good enough".

...and people are shocked they raised the prices again? They do it every year, what is so surprising about this?

They haven't exactly talked about reducing discounts for "years now"
The talk actually began last year when Iger publically stated that they were going to quote "wheen" the discounts over the next year( that would be this year).
And you say it hasnt really happened, well one example that it is happening is free dining is gone that once was, also very very limited fall discounts into this sept that are for a week here and a week there, where last year it covered the whole month.

No shock here over them raising prices, but I was taken off guard. I was expecting this to happen in early August. Just glad I saw this thread and my Mousesavers email. It's not a huge savings to buy before the increase, but it's still a savings.

Anyone know what the renewal rate for AP's will be? I suspect it's going to approach (and possibly surpass) $500, which feels like a big threshhold to cross.

Wow. You hope that people will be priced out, making them unable to go because they are uncultured? What are you, some noble from the Victorian era?

You hope that your enjoyment will be heightened at the expense of the happiness other people (and children.)

It's actually kind of funny. You don't want to spend time in the parks with the lower class, but I feel bad for your family having to spend time there with you.

Maybe with the increase they will pay for a new parade in the Magic Kingdom. :brick: yeah right. Just more bonus's for execs instead of park investment.

Im not shocked by the increase but it shows more of their greed loud and clear. Still wondering about any parking rate increase though?
