Slither back under the rock he came out from?

I'm keeping my opinions on non-US park expansions to myself... only because I'm sorely butthurt over it. Especially the BatB E-Ticket. :grumpy:
There is Avatar next year and Star Wars about, what, 2-3 years after that? Everything's fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. Don't forget that our New Fantasyland was the bestest thing ever and if Disney spent too much money making that too amazing they wouldn't have had the money for Star Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And don't you forget Frostrom the absolute best idea they've ever had!!!!!!!!!! :D

SDL Metro line and DisneyTown (outside only, shops not open) welcoming the public. Entertaining commentary, as always, from Shanghaiist:

Apparently, Disney was prepared for the swell of tourists, with staff outside waiting to greet them, give them some Mickey gloves and help them take pictures... before escorting them inside the nearest shop selling various Disney crap.

OK, so sarcasm aside, WDW is getting new things, just like Tokyo is.

So upcoming things for Tokyo include:
* BatB E-ticket and land
* new indoor theater
* BH6 flat ride
* re-skinning of Storm Chasers to a Nemo overlay
* Soarin'
(If I missed anything, please feel free to correct)

The Nemo ride will be coming sooner, but otherwise the rest of the stuff isn't until 2020 or so.

For WDW:
* re-skinned boat rode for Frozen (2016)
* new version of Soarin' (2016)
* Pandora land with flying ride and boat ride (2017)
* Toy Story coaster and flat ride (2018)
* Star Wars land with two rides (2019 or so)

There's also new entertainment (larger Star Wars fireworks, RoL/ToL awakenings, etc.) coming to WDW, but Tokyo might be getting similar things.

So, if you look over these lists, I don't see how Tokyo is getting so much more or better stuff than WDW in upcoming years. And, yes, TDL will be getting other stuff in 2021 and beyond, but probably so will WDW so let's compare it when that stuff comes around.

And even if you want to say that WDW has not had stuff in so long and is overdue and stale, the same is true for Tokyo. They haven't gotten a new ride in years.

The main difference in terms of attractions between Tokyo and WDW is how much better Tokyo has been developed in the past. They build TDS as a complete park from the start, unlike places like DHS or DAK. So the baseline for Tokyo is a lot better. They also upkeep better and refresh things more regularly. These are all good and important things and I commend OLC for their investment and attention. I'm not pretending there isn't a significant difference in terms of how the resorts are right now.

But people who are swooning over the announced Tokyo additions, but dismissive of stuff coming to WDW? I don't get it. WDW is getting a bunch of new and quality additions in upcoming years (finally!) just as much as Tokyo is.

I think you are on the right track, but I'd play devil's advocate enough to say we have a nice little list of stuff coming - but I think many of us are suspicious that it will all actually land as stated, no pun intended. At WDW, there is such a history of slashed and/or wasted budgets, and the last true "monument" attraction WDW built (EE) was a disaster.

Tokyo, on the other hand, has a long history of building quality attractions.

Basically, I think folks will believe it at WDW when we see it - when we are actually walking on and experiencing the promised attractions.

Oh yeah, stock buybacks.

I agree with you on the other parts, but be careful with this one - it's something a few posters around here crow about incessantly, but in truth it was a very smart move. They bought back a lot of stock when the stock was at a lower price. It also wasn't directly taken from the Parks and Resorts budget as folks would have you believe - if it wasn't used to buy back stocks, it wouldn't have come to the parks, either.

Yea, Comcast is doing a big round of stock buyback this year too. It's a smart corporate strategy, no matter what anyone wants you to think.
