The Enchanted Tiki Room set to reopen later in 2011 after sustaining fire damage

Like I advised in early February (earlier on in this thread), a March reopening of Tiki was never planned. It was always June at the earliest. WDWMagic/Steve might need to get some new sources if these things are being posted as facts on the main page. :lookaroun

People on here keep hoping for a return to Tiki glory. And they're in luck.

That would give me some hope. Even if it isn't a return to Disneyland's original show, at least give an update that puts the show back into this century. It really is obnoxious right now.

At one point I did see some backstage communication that listed a March date for re-opening. That's probably where that date came from.

Wow I almost choked on my cereal literally when I read that line, I dont know if I should be truly excited or very cautious on getting hopes up after reading that, but thanks for that special news, lets hope it rings true.

Thanks Steve for the Update!

I really hope TDO surprises us. If anything, move the entrance to face the walk way between Jungle and Pirates and redo the entire preshow area to be an actual tiki garden similar to Tokyo's preshow area. And if they really want to impress us, bring in an all new show featuring an original story line and no movie tie ins.

I don't mind redoing the garden area, but plese leave the battling Phil Hartman and Don Rickles, if for no other reason than that we can't ever get any new Phil Hartman. Indeed, losing Phil Hartman's voice from the pre-show and Jerry Orbach's from the main show would be the biggest disappointment for me if the show was changed.

You're kidding. Really? If we actually get a better show because of this, the great Tiki Room fire will go down as the best fire effect in all of WDW!

You know I was just sitting here and wondering with TDO loving movie tie ins.....

Restoring the show inside to Disneyland's show......

while OUTSIDE adding a couple Gnomes into the Preshow....

Movie Tie-In with Gnomeo & Juliet.... no one offended... win-win....

I cannot recall anyone ever suggesting this before, but I cannot imagine that I am the first to think of it. It is SOOOO simple too! AA Gnomes would be really cool too....

So is this kind of a cool idea or am I just an idiot? Yeah, I am hiding behind something just in case ya all think the later choice is correct ... LOL

Couple of things right off the bat...

How often do you see Gnomes in tropical islands?

You realize the movie is not making any smashes.

Anyone who is counting on a likely change is just most likely letting themselves down.

1. Iago and Zazu not from Polynesia....neither is the Tiki Goddess. Jamaica is not Polynesian.

2. Neither did Tron, but in the end we might see a tron attraction at a Disney park sometime (rumors of course lol)

3. Not counting on a likely change..... just hoping that someone cares enough to do what is imho a change that a lot of people consider to be the right thing to do.

Beyond that I say: Hope for the Best (trip to The Tiki Room in June -opening show in fact- if the rumor were to come true), plan for the worst (avoid entering the Tiki Room for any reason and shed a teardrop everytime I pass by Poor Jose being subjected to the UNM tortore errr Show I mean lol).

Yeah...was not disputing the other facts.

The idea is to go back into appropriate original theming, not continue to screw it up with movie tie ins.

Im all for the Original Theming returning... I was just saying if the only way they (TDO) would do that is if they wanted to sit a couple gnomes in the preshow area as a movie tie in to satisfy that idea then I could live with that! :) Key words are: OUTSIDE & PRESHOW :) Inside let it all be The Tropical Serenade (Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room) using the Disneyland version of course....

I gotcha. I am just not seeing how talking garden gnomes fit any sort of theming of a tropical adventureland.

Only way IO can see it fitting is if Travelocity sponsors the new show... and has their gnome be a product placement in the garden outside

Ha. Don't see that happening. I know some WDW hotel execs that are not happy at all with their service.

But a hilarious thought none the less.

So anyone at the MK and seen anything going on at the Tiki Room? Curious about the reported removal of the outdoors UNM preshow elements that someone reported they saw?

I don't know about the removal of those elements but as seen from a photo update at wdwnews.com there is definitely something going on. It could be a removal, canniblization for parts somewhere else or just a refurbishment to it while they have the oppertunity. It is just an image that shows the waterfall door of the preshow cracked open.

I have little hope that the show will return as the original, but I agree with other posters in that at the very least, I would like to hear the complete version of the theme song, and maybe a few other numbers from the original show.

I walked by two days ago and all the UNM props where still inside. I would imagine some sort of blockade would be in place should any removal or extensive work was to be done.

IMHO, if the original show was to return I would imagine we would be seeing a lot more work out front and walls going up. I would hope they would take the time to move the entrance to face pirates and Jungle to maximize the presence of the attraction. Also, bringing in DL's tiki garden wouldn't be a bad idea either. They have the room for it if they simply remove all the railings and make the rows level. If anything I hope they get pele and heena working again.

Yes, the Tiki Garden would be a welcome sight! We were at DLR in Oct 2010 and it was fun to hang out in the Tiki Garden before the show...

Would be nice if Dole would sponsor the MK Tiki Room too... Disney should offer them a substantial discount on the sponsorship of the second Tiki Room as an incentive.... some money from Dole would be better than no sponsorship or so I would think...

If they are truly performing magic inside to bring us the Tiki Room show we all remember and love, I am thinking they could do all of that without anything visable outside...of course when they alter the preshow and other outside elements that would be a different thing entirely, but I suspect they might have some of the original show elements in storage... Anyone have any idea if they do?

Also as a previous poster stated, Disney would (hopefully WILL) likely want to "market" beinging the original back as part of a media campaign... perhaps the reason this is not happening (assuming they ARE restoring the original show of course) is that they are hammering out the details on this campaign since it was clearly NOT the plan in motion the day BEFORE the fire. Clearly their campaign would not acknowledge the fire one bit, but woudl rather announce this being part of the master plan.

Disney marketing is brilliant so I would suspect a nice tie-in with the Memories campaign along with a big nod to the 40th Anniv of Walt Disney World.

IMHO If Disney really wants to drum up Guest interest why not name it "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room" or at least have it subtitled that way... of course The Tropical Serenade should be somewhere on the name or the door or something...that way when someone mentions The Enchanted Tiki Room it will identify with both coasts.....

Also I agree with some of the others about the entrance needing adjustment...the Carpets almost HIDES it.... of course a Barker Bird might solve that too.... I suspect people who would otherwise elect to enter the Riki Room, simply rush by the side of the carpets and neglect to notice the Tiki Room entrance.... a Barker bird could change that....having the entrance on the side (since the carpets tends to push the traffic that way anyways) combined with a Barker bird might even be a home run!

Maybe they could make a barker bird with the Orange Bird LOL
