The Enchanted Tiki Room set to reopen later in 2011 after sustaining fire damage

I think this is a nice example of how TDO tried to take a classic attraction and add touches of modern day Disney so that it would be able to appeal to both children and adults.

You make a Joke, Yes? UNM may have attempted those things...but it misses the target by a football field imho.

It does several things. First, it respects the company's legacy. How about a show that doesn't insult a work of Walt Disney? Second, how does one know that a show will not be successful without first showing it? Disney can't just say, "This sucks. I'd spend money on it to make it good, but no one sees it, so I won't." The logic is flawed. The reason no one sees it is because it sucks. Make it good, and people will see it.

I was hoping that the fire would destroy Iago permanently. I'm sorry to hear that it did not.

Yeah, the show is doing well at Disneyland because they FIXED up the Tiki Room elements and shortened the original show... it works.... UNM was the opposite idea and it just rips the heart and soul out of Walt's show..... this is my opinon, but I dare say it is the correct one.

I've always thought that they should just turn it into a restaurant like it was originally intended to be. Interactive dining seems to be all the rage right now, why not capitalize on it?

WDW's Tiki Room was never intended to be anything but what it is, an attraction from everything I have known..... Disneyland's was the one they wanted to initially create as a restaurant (back in 1963!) and hence it has its own bathrooms inside the attraction area!

....guests were tired of the old show and the place was a ghost town. I am no fan of New Management but going backwards is not the answer.

I respect your opinion on many subjects...however I think the reasons the guests were walking out was due to the terrible condition the Tiki Room was back in the late 80s and 90s (we all know that Disney allowing attractions to fall into bad shape is a pattern many of you have quoted on many many occassions)....people get turned off by flowers with broken mouths...feathers (that are not supposed to!) falling off the birds...the roof having issues... and the original show was simply too long! Disneyland shortened the show (removing Offenbach and a few lines of dialogue) and made their show building shiny & new again ....the result is a strong show with a lot of guests seeing it daily versus what we have at WDW which is the opposite scenerio. Besides the Original show numbers are essentially New to the WDW crowd that has started coming since 1998! I say give it a shot... it is really dumb to force UNM back down our throats when "providence" has opened a door to another option (and that being the Disneyland show coming to WDW!)

I saw a video of stitch's version of the tiki room. I say that the show isn't that bad (ESPECIALLY compared to SGE)! QUOTE]

Haha doesnt that sorta say WHY we dont want it? Thats like running the termites out of this wall and have them migrate to another wall in the same building...

We are also getting a major new E ticket for Fantasyland that is exclusive to WDW...

Isnt it more likely that the odds favor that the new E-Ticket in WDW's Fantasyland will be appearing at Shanghai also?

Let me just say this..

-Iago is NOT a quick fix. Especially not for a reopening next month.
-Work has stopped on repairing some attraction elements.
-This "reopening" is not official news.
-Your sources need to re-check their info.
-There is hope.

I Hope they give Jose back HIS show....placing it back "Under Walt's Management!"

Carousel of progress just needs a refurb. Sound is fine, animatronics could use some work. Other than that, CoP is fine.

The Enchanted Tiki Room may not have had a crowd or anything, but the thing is, is that it was better than today's version.

The Country Bear Jamboree, we (for the most part) don't want it to go as it is one of the few attractions left from park opening day. Not to mention it came to WDW before DLR . But it is in horrible shape. I don't want to see it go, but if Disney's never going to do anything with it, then I'm ranking as the bottom of rating as TETRUNM.

Back on topic, all Disney had to do was replace a CD, take out iago and zazu, and re-program the animatronics (and add that other host bird back in doh i forgot his name). It's not that hard to do.

Think about it, Tiki Room sucks now, and even tho the original is kind of dull there would be a 10% more crowd coming than today's show as it was at least better in some way than this one.

Those are strictly your own personal opinions. Not all of us agree with you, you know.

Exactly.

However, I must remind you that TDO does not create or update attractions. WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) does all of that.

That, and the fact that it's not an E-Ticket. As far as I know, it's a D-Ticket.

Just an update on this, now appears to be June 1 according to sources within Disney.

I hope this gives them enough time to set up the Disneyland version. :D

Wow! I wonder what changed? More extensive damage than previously thought? Decided to spend more $$ and make more effort to make it better than it was before? I think it'd be a good opportunity PLUS it seems that a lot of WDW is getting some attention these days. Maybe this is a goooood thing! Here's to hopin'!

I have seen several people mention that Disneyland's show continues to draw. I have been at DL on three separate trips in the last three years, one during the summer busy season, one on a weekend in the fall, and one on a fall weekday. The Tiki Room was zero wait on all three occasions. The show was indeed more crowded on the busier days, but never full. And yes, I did witness people leaving mid-show.

Not that I don't like the original show better -- I do. But my first-hand experience does not at all suggest that it is drawing very large crowds at DLR. I continue to believe that the best solution for the Tiki Room is actually multiple shows...perhaps a daytime and a nighttime version -- give people a reason to visit multiple times in a day if they like it.

And as to the comment " this is my opinon, but I dare say it is the correct one" -- wouldn't you dare say that about all your opinions? After all, if you didn't think your opinion was the correct one, it wouldn't be your opinion now, would it?

I'm hoping that the longer refurb period form the fire actually means some changes, but I doubt it.

I agree, hoping hoping. Its just a shame that the powers that be are so clueless, unless theres something going on behind the scenes we dont know about. But then look at the choices made with the new parade at DHS, its not surprising how clueless they are.

While I also prefer the original show I also witnessed guests leaving mid show on my only two viewings(Oct 2009) There were more people in line for Dole whips than for the Show :slurp:

Best to way increase attendance at the Tiki Room might be to make the waiting area the only place you can get a Dole Whip!

I have not seen anyone say that the only good answer would be for the original version show to come back, but rather many are saying they would welcome just a new tiki bird show that's focus is a bit more on timelessness and charm of The Enchanted Tiki Room rather than quick movie tie ins.

Nothing changed. The March date was never accurate.

100% with you on that Hope!!!!

Well all my experience...and the overwhelming responses I see points to the Disneyland show being a consistent draw of people.....no empty or close to empty shows over there. Never seen anyone leave the show...of course I am sure it happens...as it does to even the most exciting attraction.....

When I went in August 2010, the Tiki Room played to a full house.

Yep, same experience we had on October.... and we went every day of our trip (sometimes twice a day lol)..... the crowds were awesome...was a real misty eyed experience watching kids, adults, and seniors all getting "into" the spirit of the show...singing, clapping, etc..... was truly Magical!

Thanks Steve for the Update!

I really hope TDO surprises us. If anything, move the entrance to face the walk way between Jungle and Pirates and redo the entire preshow area to be an actual tiki garden similar to Tokyo's preshow area. And if they really want to impress us, bring in an all new show featuring an original story line and no movie tie ins.

Like I advised in early February (earlier on in this thread), a March reopening of Tiki was never planned. It was always June at the earliest. WDWMagic/Steve might need to get some new sources if these things are being posted as facts on the main page. :lookaroun

People on here keep hoping for a return to Tiki glory. And they're in luck.

Seriously? The Disneyland show at WDW? That would be spectacular news!!!
