The Enchanted Tiki Room set to reopen later in 2011 after sustaining fire damage

FWIW, I've been told that a replacement Iago had not been ordered and would thus not be part of the show when it re-opens. What that means we'll actually get is anyone's guess for now.

Too sweet. Googling now! John Stamos is laughing at it and saying "I got the big one."

Too bad they didn't keep the original tagline with a "Let the memories begin" slapped in the top right corner or where the swirl is instead.

I really think some of the items being taken out of the DCA entrance are a mistake. The California Letters and Mosaic are two of the truly iconic elements from the park, but we cannot kill te Leave a Legacy at Epcot?

One of the birds of the pre-show, "William", is gone.... Refurbishment? Change? Who knows...

Pictures coming later.

Thanks. I was looking at a picture from (sorry, apparently giving credit is censored) and it definitely looked like work was going on in that preshow but as far as I could see and anyone could tell his briefcase was definitely still there.

They are redoing the Tiki Room to play to the always-looking-at-my-smartphone crowd. It'll become an audio animatronic version of Angry Birds. :lookaroun

Actually, come to think of it, Iago would fit well with that.

But in a nod to those who nostaglic for the Magic Kingdom of the past, the pre-show will feature an updated version of a Magic Kingdom-only classic character, the Angry Orange Bird.

wai so does that mean that Iago 2 is also going bye bye? If the original show DOES come back keeping Iago 2 in w/o a speaking role would be kind of a neat (and polite) reminder of just what it took to bring the good show back

I agree.

But I don't understand why they don't just go back to the original. I had the opportunity to see it at Disneyland last year, and it stood up well -- much better than the clearly dated Iago lyrics and banter. The kids who were born when his cartoon came out (and when this would have made sense) are GRADUATING now! So, especially the references to how they have been doing the same show since 1964 are outdated and nonsensical.

The concept of the original show, of course, is still universal and timeless. It should be changed back, especially in time for WDW's 40th anniversary.

Right on! :)

Magicot's source also bring up something I've heard from bluebirds on my shoulder...when the Tiki room opens in June or maybe even July....the magic memories and you and memories campaign should be quieting down by august...from what I've heard...come september there will be something....besides merchandise and D23 to recognize WDW's 40th...think more like the one day epcot 25th anniversary party, but slightly larger. They basically want to end 2011 on a money milking high note...thus the memories...will evolve in the fall to a 40 years of memory thing....so the tiki room going back to it's original show would serve as a prelude to the short 40th campaign starting at the end of the summer.

Would be a good campaign filler...and of course when it is over they can leave the original show there for say "FOREVER" :)

If they want to milk money out of it, put together some great Merch like DL did for their Tiki Room 40th. The stuff was awesome. Although I would NEVER want to see stuff from WDW, DL ONLY, but if they can capture that same magic...

is already starting to dothings over at WDW I thought....

FWIW, I've been told that a replacement Iago had not been ordered and would thus not be part of the show when it re-opens. What that means we'll actually get is anyone's guess for now.

Hopefully that the Disneyland version(original minus Offenbach and some verbage) is going to open real soon at WDW!!

UPDATE!!!

Letter delivered to both Guest Relations and to the New Executive of Adventureland (name not quote, not sure if I should!)....

The Buffalo heads that were missing a few days ago from the tops of the Tiki Room (pictures were posted on "another forum" by some poster) have returned to their places.

Had a long talk with the new exec's assistant.... lol she actually had heard of my family when I repeated the part about our group having a private 1 hour Magical Moment at the Tiki Room in 2008... she said Mr Beeson (now promoted ....will have to drop by when I am at his area next time ...wont post where that is since I like him & want to respect his privacy), had a really nice drawing of Jose in his office from someone too and I said "my 18 year old daughter had drawn it) The word Krasniy is obviously NOT on the picture lol. Its a nice drawing so I can understand why someone would remember it.

Obviously nothing "Official" was handed out from her, and anything she said was in confidence. WHAT I CAN SAY IS: I expressed many of our views on here including even the idea of moving the entrance to the side, etc.... and Amazingly she knew of WDWMAGIC so who knows maybe she is HERE reading this post! :) Or perhaps even one of our Mysterious Insiders? :) Wouldnt that be kind of neat! Of course, we will likely never know :)

In any case, letter was delivered in person so NO ONE can say we all just talked on here with no real attempt to contact Disney directly... they are aware of our feelings on this issue...

In fact, I would encourage ALL of you that really want the Tiki Room to return to Tiki Glory (as a previous poster stated it!) to take a minute to (FOR REAL!) at least send an Email to Guest Relations...perhaps someone could post the link here for all of you.....

If you do, Please be polite and respectful, stay on topic (no complaints about other things!)....I imagine the person at the other end would appreciate that...and be more responsive in passing your email up the chain of command at TDO....

Thank you, Bob, for what you are doing - you sound like the type of fan the Tiki Room needs and deserves. I just caught up on this entire thread in hopes that there was some good news about the Tiki Room, and it sounds like there are reasons to hold out hope!

In 1998 my husband and I went to WDW on our honeymoon (it was his first trip). I was excited to share with him the place I have loved all my life. At that time I don't think I had been to WDW since 1992 so I was incredibly disappointed by two things: the closure of 20k, and... UNM. We saw UNM for the first and last time on that trip. All I could tell him afterwards was that was not how it was supposed to be. The very spirit of the Tiki Room seemed to have been removed and replaced with something bitter and cynical.

Two years ago we took our first trip to Disneyland. For me, one of the main reasons was to see Walt's Tiki Room and share it with my family. Unfortunately, the cost of flying across country to CA is prohibitive for us - otherwise I'd do it again just to see that show. I would be overjoyed if Walt's Tiki Room came back to WDW.

Here are a couple pics from the Tiki Room area yesterday..... one is of us posing in front of the UNM sign "Not running today" :) and the second is the view of the Buffalo heads back in place (someone posted pics recently showing them removed).
Pic of us is large so you can see the detail on our (believe it or not!) 2008 trip shirts that we wore yesterday....

This site is well known within WDW ranks. I've heard managers advise people to check it for guest reactions.

I have been to Disneyland 3 times. Every time I went to the Tiki Room there was a good size crowd waiting to go in. The shows I saw (I went multiple times each day!) were full or near full.

The times of year I went there are off season.

Trip 1: May 17 - 24 2003
Trip 2: Sept. 15 - 21 2005 (50th Anniversary!)
Trip 3: Nov. 15 - 18 2007

People sang and clapped along with the show (including myself!) The garden waiting area outside is fantastic and a great way to enjoy your time waiting to go in.

I went to the UNM version in WDW on my first trip and one other time with friends.
Last trip to UNM was in 2001 as I said with friends. They along with me have never and will never set foot in this attraction the way it is now ever again. The show is awful.

Not everyone will be happy no matter what WDW does. But feel the best thing to do for now at least with the 40th Anniversary coming up is to have the shortened version of the original come back.

What they will do in the future after that is up to them. But feel the original would be better untill, if ever, they decide to do something else as far as stay the original, stitch or some other new idea.

Personally would love the original back and staying. If they came up with a new idea that at least honors the original would be next on list. Stitch version I suppose would be last on list for me. No - wait,, UNM would be last on list (Actually NOT ON LIST AT ALL!)

... Has there been any news on this?

Has anyone heard anything at all pertaining to the Tiki Room other than a possible June re-opening? I'm so rallying for the return of Tropical Serenade, its sad... I'm actually dreaming about it in my sleep.
