we were fortunate enough to get Jiminy at Rafiki's Planet watch the first week in October. Every now and then, the retired characters can be found, but you have to be in the right place at the right time, there is no way to predict it.

So Disney creates an *original* character (admittedly for a mobile phone game), and want to add more cross-company synergy with it? Heaven forbid!

I downloaded the free version they were offering over Christmas, got hooked and then downloaded the full version. (OMG, a whopping 99 cents). While not a character I'd rush to see on every visit, I'd go and get a photo taken on my next visit. I can even see the use of "bonus levels" when you get your photo taken with him... Pose for photo, then they have a QR code you can grab with your phone that unlocks a new level or two.

I also like the other hidden characters in the game. (Did you catch Wall-E in the background?)

^This! It would be cool if you could get a bonus level or two!

(And no I didn't catch Wall-E... but I haven't done all the levels - my son has!)

They're called "examples," and yes, examples are often exaggerated to illustrate a point. Apples and anchovies are both... um.. edible? :slurp: Jiminy might not strike your fancy, but a new character from a tablet game does raise questions as to Disney's priorities.

But alas, I'd probably want a pic with him too. So there's two of us.

And which Disney priority is that? The one where they want to make money and market a mobile app/game (that's pretty good in my opinion)!?! Shame on a company for wanting to market something... who ever heard of the like!?!

Darn, I had to re-read the post title again. I thought it was talking about Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, the co-creator of Phineas and Ferb:p I'd much rather meet him than an iphone character. I also agree, bring back the water park gators, I sure do miss them.

Not having played the game, is there any depth to the character at all? Admittedly you don't get a life story in a 90 minute movie, but you do have character development. If Swampy is just a mascot, with no real depth, backstory (besides wanting to taking a shower) etc then it's a bit iffy to me. I'm all for new characters, even ones tied to video games, but usually there is some emotional tie to the good characters.

No, the character has ZERO depth. Zero, zero. Not any. In fact, he's so much of an afterthought it's almost funny.

There are a few cut scenes after you finish a section of levels, but even in those, there's almost nothing to glean from it.

But as I said earlier in the thread, they obviously have more planned for Swampy than what we've currently seen. I think they've decided they can really turn him into a well-known character through other media, meet n greets being one of the many, if I had to guess.

So while he currently doesn't have any depth what so ever... I'd be willing to put money on it that that's going to change.

still great!

If they still have the mold, just do a green one and bingo!

Wow, cool to see these characters. Since they are supposed to be the owners of their respective water parks, it would be kind of exciting to see them occasionally appear. It would also kind of cement the story to the park.

So Disney now has 5 gators as characters, Louis from P&TF, Tic Toc from Peter Pan (technically a croc), Ice from BB, Laguna from TL and now this app character. Get them together on the Liberty Belle as a scary river infested M&G?

Does Disney even own this "Swampy" guy?

As he was created for an app published by Disney Mobile, I'd hope they own him...

And to straighten out a few bits of terminology, "Where's My Water?" is an app available on both the Android Market for mobile phones, and the iTunes store (so iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc).

Come to think of it... Doesn't "Where's My Water?" sound like something they'd put into Innoventions? How about an exhibit about water supplies, purification technologies, etc with Swampy as a mascot?

Swampy, Lagoona, Ice Gator, Louis, Tick Tock......

DISNEY GATORS FRANCHISE!!! :lookaroun

Haha YES!! :sohappy:

I'd buy it. :lookaroun

Also Drew, I know it's a moot point, but I'm curious: you said the Ice and Lagoona Gators would have to be redesigned before they would be featured at the water parks again. Is that redesigned as in the costumes would have to be refabricated, or that the gators themselves would have to be redesigned and relaunched as characters?

I'm so sick of Angry Birds, so I'm gonna give this game a whirl. But does it warrant a M&G? No I don't think so. Disney needs to stick with M&G's on reconizable characters that are related to the real Disney Legacy not some video game app fad that will burn out in the next 7-12 months. Iger. What the 'Ell are you doing?

More than likely. I doubt they would make them as they were before.

Well Studios management did screw up the Club Penguin meet n greet. The Club Penguin website(the official one) had posted about the meet n greet with the dates and times. I know for fact that one family drove from out of state just to see Rockhopper and Blue Penguin. Ent management had already pulled them for the day. The family arrived and no Club Penguin characters. Granted, the family was upset so they had to do recovery the following day and have a private meet n greet.

A little OT but...
Do you know what happened to the CP M&G? I thought it was just a test and then they would come out with it at a later time!?! Was it not popular enough? Was there a problem with the characters? I thought CP was still pretty popular (I know my kids would love a pic with them)!

I'm not sure of the specific reasons they didn't add them. Probably it came down to budget. To have a character made costs big bucks.

Could have saved money by not making certain characters and re-doing others.
Although, the Bowler Hat Guy was interesting while he lasted!

Jiminy Cricket > Brother Bear

Here's an obscure one:

Three Little Pigs > Chicken Little cast

As was said above, it all ties back to making a buck. There were Chicken Little theater tickets to be sold at the time. Nobody is going out and buying Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wold anything these days. :lookaroun
