Swampy the Alligator meet n greet

A page or two back someone mentioned that he looked like the alligator on the "Teach my alligator some manners" shorts on Disney Jr. I totally agree he is the same character and thought I was just crazy. So perhaps they took that character and used it to create this game? If so, then he does have a little backstory. He has no manners and does bad things :) On another note, I think I need to check this game out now. Ugh! One more addictive game is all I need!

Update on Swampy-

It looks like Swampy may or may not show up at the parks. He is being made and will exist in character form but it remains to be seen if he will actually be appearing for meet n greets inside the theme parks. It sounds like he'll appear for special events for Disney Mobile.

Could have saved money by not making certain characters and re-doing others.
Although, the Bowler Hat Guy was interesting while he lasted!

Jiminy Cricket > Brother Bear

Here's an obscure one:

Three Little Pigs > Chicken Little cast

As was said above, it all ties back to making a buck. There were Chicken Little theater tickets to be sold at the time. Nobody is going out and buying Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wold anything these days. :lookaroun

It makes one wonder though, after apparent thousands/tens/hundreds of thousands (?) that go into creating a costume and then staffing the CM for said costume, how many people are really going to out and by the Chicken Little DVD just because they met the Ugly Duckling at a M&G. Seems like a weird way to promote movie sales if you ask me).

Of course, if they created more Muppets mobile interactive characters to promote the Muppets movie, I wouldn't be complaining then. :animwink:

Darn! But it's been such a great discussion!

Come to think of it... Doesn't "Where's My Water?" sound like something they'd put into Innoventions? How about an exhibit about water supplies, purification technologies, etc with Swampy as a mascot?

Good idea, but the "world water issue" is pretty depressing being that so many lives are lost and how easy it would be to provide water purification (filter) bottles if someone would simply pay for them, being that the technology does exist (anyone interested in this topic should view the educational presentation at http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/michael_pritchard_invents_a_water_filter.html). There are countless people around the world wondering, "where's my water?" which is probably why Disney decided to go with a cartoon alligator instead of a real life 8 year old girl who has to walk 5 miles every day to bring water from the nearest well. That wouldn't be a very fun game. :(

I'm surprised that no one has brought this up yet:

Ice Gator is currently one of the characters in the "Park Starz" series of Vinylmation figures. You know, the "classic characters" that cost nearly $20 each. I haven't seen any Swampy Vinylmations ..yet :lookaroun

Hm...so they got rid of Jimminy Cricket, and we won't be seeing a Pete M&G at the circus either..but we get a mobile phone game? This makes no sense to me.o_O

It isn't necessarily about people running right out and buying the DVD but about creating an awareness so the character isn't forgotten.

I think you'd be surprised though at how many kids would ask their parents for the DVD while shopping at Walmart if they had met the character on vacation.

I can only speak for my family, but my son wants to go to Blizzard Beach to see Swampy desperately because he saw a commercial about it on the Disney Channel.

If it's an appealing character, it doesn't matter if it's from a movie or a game to kids. These days, it seems kids spend more time playing games than they do watching movies anyway.

Heck, he's only played to a couple of times, but he'd die if there were a Club Penguin mini-land somewhere.

Oooohh then don't tell him that they were there for a test run a few years back at DHS by the Backlot Tour...

Wow. Yeah I had heard they had done something like that but had never seen pics. He just turned 7 and would absolutely LOVE that.

He just discovered the Power Rangers literally the month after they left the Studios too. We've had passes for years and would always see them running around but he could care less. Then he discovered the show and was hooked only to find out they weren't at DHS any more.

I understand what happened with Disney not owning the Power Rangers anymore, but the character disappearing really baffles me. I will never understand why they don't have someplace in the parks where the characters are more obscure and change from day to day. They obviously have the costumes in mothballs somewhere and it would add so much to the experience for those of us who go all the time.

It seems like it would be such an inexpensive way to add so much to the Disney experience. I'll never understand why they don't do it.

Does this mean Ice and Lagoona Gator won't be the official mascots for the water parks anymore? I've always thought they were super cute... cuter than Swampy, anyway...

If you ask me...If River Country still existed He'd be the "Perfect" Mascot...Leave the other gators to the Pools.

I agree completely, but unfortunately that's not the case... I think I agree most with somebody else who commented earlier in the thread. I'd give him his own little educational segment in Innoventions or The Living Seas about water purification and such... or, even better, replace The Circle of Life over in The Land with an educational Where's My Water short.
