Swampy the Alligator meet n greet

I agree completely, but unfortunately that's not the case... I think I agree most with somebody else who commented earlier in the thread. I'd give him his own little educational segment in Innoventions or The Living Seas about water purification and such... or, even better, replace The Circle of Life over in The Land with an educational Where's My Water short.
This appears to only be a short term publicity act. I don't see him becoming the mascot for the parks

wow - can't believe all the hate for this..

Is this really any different from a M&G character from a movie.. or TV show? Just because it's another form of media it doesn't make it any different. It's people getting to see Disney characters in a Disney park.

I'm not hating on Swampy, I just don't want to see him make Ice and Lagoona Gator find another water park to live in. That was my initial worry.

It's not any different at all. It seems a lot of people are adverse to this form of media, so they shun it. Probably because they don't understand it (or, more likely, don't want to).

Swampy is a character that's making Disney a lot of money, with lots of kids (and teenagers and adults) completely in love with him. Many here don't understand that everything built at Disney isn't created for a forum community that would prefer everything remain as it was forever.

Lots of people are addicted to the game and would love to meet Swampy. Not everything (least of all character m&g) is tooled toward a bunch of adults from an online community. People who find this to be so offensive need not meet him. I doubt Disney "got rid" of Jiminy to bring in Swampy. A lot of posts here lately seem to come across as very conspiracy theory in nature, as though Disney's sole goal is to ruin their parks.

Times change, and so should Disney. They have a lot to gain from further promoting a very profitable character from one of the most successful games out there right now.

Also, keep in mind that every Disney character was brand new at some point. I'm not sure where the merit is in the classic vs. new argument. Who's to say Swampy won't someday be a beloved classic character once they expand him beyond just the game? Nobody. There's no possible way for anybody to know.

Have you seen them represented in the parks in ages?

I haven't been to the water parks in years, so no, I have not.

I don't mind if Swampy were to have casual meet-and-greets in the water parks, I could honestly care less. Go for it, I'm sure a lot of people would like to meet him. All I'm saying is that I would be upset if Ice and Lagoona Gator were to completely disappear from the water parks altogether, as I find them to be very cute and creative characters (then again, I'm speaking as somebody who's really into character design and all that jazz, so I probably like them more for that reason than the average person).

I understand Disney has to keep up with the times, and I'm not the type who'd hold anything against them for making such a change. All I'm saying is that I'd be sad to see them go.

I never heard of Swampy before I saw a flag/poster of him in the DS parking lot. But if people like him and they want to do M&G, I see no problem with it.

The kids I know would much rather meet Perry the Platypus, though. HIM I heard about!! I was sent on a mission to buy PtP stuff before Disney was stocking it. I get requests all the time..most recent being a lunchbox and notebooks with perforated edges.

I personally don't see any issue with Swampy as long as he sticks to the water parks. I would like if they brought back the original gators but Swampy will be cute and will add something to the water parks. I don't understand why people continue to complain when we get something at the world. If it isn't exactly what everyone wants then they complain. The mobile devision of Disney is booming and will continue to be around for as long as iphones and ipads are so popular. By the way the cross promotion has already started. Where's My Water has a "secret" level that is a Typhoon Lagoon level and there are commercials on Disney Channel about the park and about the level so it was only a matter of time before Swampy makes a visit.

I wouldn't be shocked if he shows up at Animal Kingdom either because originally the game was suppose to be about water conservation but now it is just a really addictive mobil game.

Swampy seems to be gaining more and more popularity, why not add him to the meet & greet line up. It's not like their proposing they use him as Mickey's replacement! LOL

I wondered this as well (and just found Ice Gator's running gags around Blizzard Beach adorable), so I looked to see if they had any Ice or Lagoona Gator merch at either of the two water parks. No towels, no plush, no coffee mugs, nothing. :( So they are literally not represented in modern WDW, in merchandise, marketing, M&Gs or otherwise, aside from how they were integrated into the parks during their initial design phase.

The head of the water parks aren't big fans of Ice and Lagoona Gator. That's why you don't see much of them in merch, publicity etc.

I would love to see them come back as meet n greet characters but it's not going to be happening anytime soon. :(
