Swampy the Alligator meet n greet

Good lord. We lose Jiminy Cricket entirely from WDW, and yet they are looking at a character from a mobile video game?!

Haha seriously!

WDW needs to sort out its character priorities. M&Gs ought to feature characters that guests most already want to see when going into the park. But their current use seems to have more of a strange marketing agenda, like they're trying to promote characters guests don't care about yet - Duffy, Angelica from Pirates 4, and now this guy. That just seems like a waste of resources, since most guests will have no clue who they're even meeting (or in the case of Duffy, apparently don't want to meet him in the first place), and that CM inside the costume could instead be staffed to a character we care about.

I know I can't speak for everyone, but, there seem to be a lot of kids out there who play this game. I am not sure how many kids out there who have actually seen the entire film Pinnochio.

Yes, to my generation and older who have seen the movie and grew up in these characters, it is very hard to see our beloved characters go. But I think we need to remember. Meet and Greet's aren't really marketed towards us adults.

Just my two cents.

He might be mistaken for one of the stupid crocs in "Pearls Before Swine"

No, read the strip. They really are stupid. :lookaroun

Or he could be mistaken for Louis the alligator from Princess & the Frog

He does make appearances at special events already. I've had my photo taken with him at least once, maybe twice.

Reminds me of when Frier Tuck from Robin Hood used to make character appearances and people wouldn't take a photo with him because they didn't know who he was.

This is kinda brilliant on behalf of Disney to incorporate yet another "gator" reference into WDW. Regardless of your collegiate affections, for many people, Florida is very synonymous with UF (it is after all the University of Florida), and gators in general. Have you ever counted the number of guests wearing UF branded apparel at WDW on any given day?

So while I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that Disney is intentionally "trading on" UF's goodwill and popularity, they aren't exactly hurting themselves by creating a character - the similar form of which has already won the affection of all age groups. :sohappy:

Do the alligators at the water parks still walk around? The meet and greet ones, not the ones that show up randomly in the water ways.

I either heard or read somewhere that because of the success of the app, Disney planned to greatly expand the character. Books, cartoons, etc... Rolling out the character seems to point to that being true.

But I think this is larger than them just putting a character from an app out there.

Maybe people will just think he's the croc from Peter Pan. With a rubber ducky and a shower brush.

I'll only be on board if he hands out free deodorant to guests in July and August.

My guess is they'll think he's Louis from Princess and the Frog?

Very interesting. I do enjoy this app and have beaten all the levels :lookaroun but I'm probably not going to wait in line to take a picture with swampy. It's not a Disney priority of mine.

Lagoona and Ice Gator were retired some time ago.

They really should bring them back out. As long as Disney's interested in using M&Gs as a promotional tool, why not feature M&Gs with the Gators, who are already on all of the water park graphics and merchandise? They could be real money-makers if they catch on.

You know, something tells me more kids are going to be looking at the other crocs and thinking it's Swampy, not the other way around...
