Star Tours II - Soft opening watch

I'm going to be leaving the wdw on the 22nd and I have been debating to go to dhs one of my last 2 days or not. I do want to ride star tours but I'm not spending one half of one of my last 2 days in line for it, ill look for a soft opening during the week or I'll catch it next trip. But now though I'm wondering how the lines for the other big rides will be that day??

Do you mean big rides in Hollywood Studios or in the World as a whole?

Disneyland Cast Members are posting reviews on other sites from the test rides they did yesterday for hundreds of Anaheim CM's.

The ride apparently uses the expensive Dolby 3D system with custom glasses, and the reviews of the ride are very positive! I guess the queue has been totally redone, and each cabin can cycle through any of the trip variations seamlessly. The buzz is very good coming out of Anaheim, which bodes well for the DHS version too. I imagine the two versions will be identical due to the Lucas brand on them.

Great news that it's being well received. The 54 ride variations should give great re-rideability.

It's a major reason I'm willing to bet 2.0 is going to place comfortably on my top tier of near-perfect attractions. I'm not even going to be surprised if it tops Splash for my No. 2, but we'll see.

As this stage in my experience with Disney World, re-ridability is a huge bonus.

Hey all you meet-upers I hope to say hi to you all. I will be there with my gf and some fun wdw friends so say hi if ya see me!

As for soft openings and cm previews, both can really happen at any time once the attraction is handed over. The cm preview yesterday was not scheduled at all, in order for cm's to be signed off they have to show they know what they are doing. The only way for them to do that is to have someone on the ride, word went out that they needed testers and poof a few hundred cast members get on the ride! It happened the day before also but only a few TL cm's got on so no big word made it out.

Like the other poster has said it won't happen till late next week I am guessing. But you don't know, which is why the guy at star tours live is going to be great! I can't wait for it!

I was meaning other big rides at dhs as in rnrc, tot and tsmm.

I was at a Star Wars weekend last year and lines for Tower of Terror and Rockin Roller Coaster weren't bad. Toy Story Midway Mania was a mad house. And Star Tours had a thirty minute wait, which was long for it at the time. Most Star Wars fans were tied up meeting the celebs.

HOWEVER predicting the crowd size on the 20th is hard. Park could reach capacity meaning all rides will have lengthy lines. OR if the line for Star Tours is really at six hours then that means a lot of guests all tied up at the one attraction.

What's the deal with fastpass? Will it be running the 20th? I know when they do soft openings for other attractions they don't run fastpass. I am going June 3rd and am wondering if I need to get there at 9am or can I arrive at 10 am and fastpass it?

No official word. But the StarTours2Live crew witnessed them training new Star Tours CMs at the FastPass booths outside of the attraction which is a good sign.

DESPITE THIS you might not want to show up at ten anyway. The passes might go fast like the TSM passes were a year ago. Hard to tell.

TSM fastpsasses still are gone by 10:00. I doubt that will ever, ever change.

Not always. Normally now it's more like noon. Because people at 9 am don't want a fastpass for 7pm. I was there the first week of April and when we left at 1pm they had passes for near closing time.

Also, that will change with Star Tours reopening. Some people will be going for this fastpasses first meaning that TSM might not fly out as fast. You can't say it will never change when new attractions open, because it's just not true.

It's not even about the popularity. It's about the terrible load times. I am sure the wait was still 1-2 hours even on slow days. TSMM is a problem. Star Wars will help out...for a while.

It's about popularity (it's the newest ride, and everyone in the family can ride) with low hourly capacity. A ride like Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin can accommodate twice as many people per hour as Toy Story Mania

I would say 10am is a little extreme for FPs being gone (outside of major holidays). However, on average, FPs for Toy Story are gone by 12-1pm

Yep. I expect we will be seeing the same with Star Tours. Now there is an ap where you can see what fastpass time is being dispensed where, but you have to have a subscription to TouringPlans.com.

I'm hoping it's a fun ride. We would only ride the original Star Tours about once every several years because that ride was on the poor side. But I'm not a fan of Star Wars so I hope the ride is thrilling enough to warrant multiple re-rides.

I'd love to comment on this, but that would be a conflict of interest since I work at both...

For Star Wars Weekend it is not unusual for guests to arrive the night before and camp out. So really the parking lot is going to be open all night. The park opens at 8am. The opening ceremony for Star Tours is around 10am. It isn't clear what time Star Tours itself will be open. There have been speculation of 8am or even earlier.

Once I know information that is able to be shared on this, I will let you all know. I will say that this is inaccurate...

Because he's telling park guests that public soft openings will likely occur on CM preview days when the info wasn't even confirmed when he posted it.*wink face*

Exactly. I'm all about being excited for a new attraction, but sharing info that has intentionally not been made public by snooping around doesn't sit right with me. I'm just saying...
