Star Tours II - Soft opening watch

In his haste to be the "first" to give out info he's been wrong, several times. It's like, what's the point if you have to question his info or wait for a retraction?

Also the whole camping out in front of a closed attraction is a bit...creepy.

I have yet to see any rumors posted that don't contain disclaimers as to the reliability of the information and/or the source of the information. It's certainly not even close-to-comparable to the myriad of posts everyday on here predicated on "things my second-cousin heard from a guest who talked to a bus driver."

As for the camping out being creepy, I swear, some Disney fans would whine no matter what the circumstances. We all pine for instant information concerning everything Disney-related, and we all gather on a message board related to the most current information on these theme parks. Sometimes this information can concern things that are as seemingly inconsequential as new paint on a handrail. Yet we read and comment on these threads. I fail to see the logic in how up-to-the-second reporting on a soft opening is odd, yet the aforementioned get a free pass. Either both are weird/creepy, or neither are.

To the outside, it's probably all creepy. But as a regular poster on this site, you fall into the category of someone in a glass house throwing stones by calling it weird.

He posted "info" about CM previews that ended up being dubious just hours ago. According to CMs I know there is no info on the Hub regarding previews like he claimed.

The information concerning CM previews has been confirmed as being on the Hub. I guess it wasn't so dubious after all.

But...you just did. LOL.

He's a kid sitting in front of an attraction and letting us vicariously follow along. It's all in fun. If people take anything he says or does seriously, they are missing the whole point. :)

Amen. Some people here feel like they are the "Disney police" with regard to what is acceptable practice or worthwhile news. Some folks just take things a tad too seriously. It's a Walt Disney World soft opening attraction watch. Where is the harm there? If it's not your cup of tea, move along. For some of us, valuable information is being provided.

Al Lutz has info up tonight on Miceage about "hundreds" of Disneylanders riding Star Tours for testing on Thursday. Al Lutz's details and tone are positive, and he says it is a "hit". That's pretty strong praise from Disneyland's most famous critic.

I think this is great news. Given how Disney has been treating this attraction as such a "big deal" in recent months (with all of the blog posts, the passport, etc.), I was betting that the company realized it had a hit on its hands. It's sort of like how movie producers who know that a movie will review well will give it plenty of advance screenings for critics versus those who know it will not review well don't give any advance screenings for critics (it's not exactly the same, but seems somewhat similar). Now obviously here since it's Star Wars, Disney was going to promote it to some degree, but it seems like the company's treatment of the attraction is one of a "blockbuster."

This may be posted elsewhere and if it is please point me in the correct direction (and don't hurt me!). Does anyone know the breakdown of events to take place on May 20th? And what time does the parking lot open for guests wanting to come in and get a good spot for the festivities?

We have both Matt Hochberg and Fred Hazelton of StarTours2Live.com on our show this week (to be posted 5/8).

They've set themselves up as a catchall source for any and all information surrounding Star Tours 2. I think the concept is great, and I'd love to see them team up in the future for other new attractions.

For Star Wars Weekend it is not unusual for guests to arrive the night before and camp out. So really the parking lot is going to be open all night. The park opens at 8am. The opening ceremony for Star Tours is around 10am. It isn't clear what time Star Tours itself will be open. There have been speculation of 8am or even earlier.

It seems odd that the rededication ceremony would occur after the ride has already been operating for that day. Would they dedicate it while people are riding and/or in line? I figured Star Tours wouldn't open, on that day at least, until it was done being re-dedicated.

It's typical for the rides to operate with guests before a dedication ceremony, as usually the ceremony is weeks or months after the guest opening. This one is strange though as the ceremony is so close to the actual first guest openings. At the moment, I'm not sure if operations have decided exactly how things will go. I know there is a lot of concern that the queue is going to be ridiculous right at opening (4 hours has been mentioned). So it will be interesting to see how the actual opening of the ride is managed. I don't see them leaving the ride closed and the queue building from park opening at 8am until around 10:45 after the ceremony.

This may have been posted before but I will still pass it on-

The rumored wait time for opening day has been projected at 6 1/2 hours. I would assume this is partly speculation.

:ROFLOL: It will be interesting to see what this will do to TSMM wait times and morning stampede

I guess it really depends on if Star Tours is open from rope drop or if they are gonna wait until after the ceremony. Really I can't see them waiting until after the ceremony, just because the bottle neck from that would be ridiculous!

The plan is to have the ride turned over to Operations next Friday. There will be no soft opening before that. Start hanging around on Saturday. Anything before that is a waste of time.

I'm going to be leaving the wdw on the 22nd and I have been debating to go to dhs one of my last 2 days or not. I do want to ride star tours but I'm not spending one half of one of my last 2 days in line for it, ill look for a soft opening during the week or I'll catch it next trip. But now though I'm wondering how the lines for the other big rides will be that day??
