Star Tours 2: Official confirmation - kinda

Wow that seems like a very long time for simply adding the new film and reprograming a simulator.

I would think that just reprogramming the simulator would be a two month process. Remember, that would include moving equipment (consoles) in, reprogramming, and then moving equipment out. Also, remember that they would have to do mixing of sound for the new film, including music, and then sync'ing onboard effects. And that doesn't even include any new show elements rumored, like AA's, or changing any of the queue elements, and fixing broken seats, etc. I could see it easily taking 9 months to update.

How long did it take to replace Alien Encounter with Stitch's Great Escape? That did not require a huge amount of replacement, except for the alien conversion to Stitch.

Compared to RotJ with a bunch of teddy bears fighting highly trained stormtroopers for the half of the movie? Most RotJ is filler except for the beginning and the final confrontation with Vader. Han and Leia really serve no other purpose than as weapon for Sidious to use against Luke (no real development from their characters except Leia is Force Sensitive).

I could care less about the Clone Wars after finding out what they were (just stormtroopers). The prequels should be about developing Anakin's character and setting him up for a fall. From early on in Episode I, we see that he is very vulnerable to fear, and that thread continues throughout all 3 prequels. Unfortunately, the actor was terrible, and there was not enough time dedicated in RotS to Anakin's transformation to the Dark Side. What I'm trying to say, not enough is shown for me to believe this whiney bloke is Darth Vader. I guess he was (over time) further corrupted and twisted by Sidious and haunted by the death of Padme.

I would agree with what you say here. My personal take on the prequels was they could have been good had Lucas decided to make Episode 1 be the events from what ended up in Episode 1 and 2. Then Episode 2 would have been everything from RoTS and more. Then episode 3 would have been the years between RoTS and ANH.

Personally, I think RoTJ was a good film. Sure, not as good as Empire, but what is? I think a lot of people just complain about Jedi because it's not as dark as Empire. Just my opinion on that.

As I said earlier in the thread, I expect the scope of this change to effectively be a completely new attraction. Think the changeover from Back to the Future to The Simpsons. Now, the queue and area theming likely won't need to change that much but the level of improvement should be the same scope.

Yup. Each film in the original trilogy pulls its own weight. None of the prequels can stand on there own much less as a trilogy. I hope Lucas tinkers the heck out of them until he can get them tolerable.

I just don't understand how Lucas went from tight storytelling and mature themes to fart jokes and whacky cartoon antics which are not only prevelant in the prequels but in the 4th. indiana jones film that came out last year.

You are correct but this redo will be even more significant than BTTF to Simpsons. That was simply a retheme of the queue, new vid, and new programming. This takes it a step forward including the removal and replacement of alot of the tech including the projectors, adding incabin effects, etc.

I'll admit, I didn't grow up on the original trilogy. I have seen it though and I think Episode 5 kicks major ash. But I also liked the prequels equally as much. I LOVED Episode 3 and Episode 2 was also very very solid.

Maybe I'm weird, but I love Dookoo (sp?), Palpatine, the droid war, and young Obi Wan.

Wow great catch!

BTW, I have the original Haunted Mansion book by Surrell. What was added? Is it worth getting the new one or nah?
Pretty much everything that was changed at the Mansion over the past few years at the Mansion. (Floating Leota' Staircases' Constance etc. is covered' definitely worth getting. Though I was disheartened to find out that Jason worked on MILF and Stitches Super-Stupid Celebration.

The nice thing about the refurb/rework is that, if Al Lutz is right, while it will essentially be a clone in all the parks, it won't feel like one to me. It was probably mentioned somewhere on here already (but these threads become laboriously long quickly), but supposedly there will be multiple beginnings, middles, and ends that will be randomly chosen from (Al mentioned 20 or each I think), so really no matter where you go on it, it will probably always be different. That's satisfying for me, as a person who doesn't like the idea of direct, drag and drop clones, like all film-based attractions usually end up as. Midway Mania had the potential to take a similar route I feel, but since it's currently the same five games no matter what, the only thing that can change is how well you do. Now if they created some new games and added a random selection mechanism, that would be a different story...

whylightbulb, do you know or can you reveal if the random element for the rework is still a part of the plan? Was it ever?

BTW, I've rarely posted here, but have lurked for a while. I'm on other forums under the same screen name.

Once again I can confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tokyo, Anaheim, Paris and Orlando will all be getting the new Star Tours and it will be more than just a new film.

Some of us have been saying this for months ... one Spirit I know intimately has been saying so for well over a year now.

Doesn't matter. Some people will never listen.

So ... how's things coming on WWoHP? When should we expect to be wowed? :)

Hence why I've retreated back to being mostly a lurker. WDW went from having nothing on the table to being full of exciting new prospects; and the online community shifted from rightly criticizing the poor management to complaining about the new developments. That's when I decided to stop keeping up with the fans as much as I did.

So nobody wants to claim the "TDO won't pay for the DL version" spin?

Even screamscape only includes DL in ST2 updates.

My, my, my.

It's amazing, that's what it is. :xmas:

Hah! I recall a certain spirit telling me i should stay here and fight the great unwashed masses of uninformed fanbois ... so I'm telling you to quit lurking and start writing!

Although I admit I'm going Internet (at least Disney fan site) free when I travel to Paris and then Los Angeles/Glendale/Anaheim next month. I know I'll be missing so much fun ... and I can't wait!:king::drevil::cool:
