Space Mountain

I wish that Space Mountain did have better merchandise. A little model rocket car would be fun. The t-shirts, frames, and such are lame. I know I would buy it :p .

Totally!!! We have the worst merchandise of any of the major attractions. We went in there a few weeks ago, and couldn't even find a magnet for my friend. I mean, that's the Disney way, isn't it? "tangible memories"....you'd think they'd improve our gift shop a bit.

yeah and my shirt was all the wrong size!

But that is what that boy gets for what he did to space!

But we do need cooler stuff like other rides have! LIKE THE MODELS!

And it should be themed better. There are Space Mountain baseballs, coffee mugs, t-shirts, photo frames, magnets...Then there is generic astronaut ice cream and Skippy plush dolls. Disney is all about telling a story, from the queue to the ride to stores and merchandise. Space Mountain has a weak story right now, and its merchandise reflects it. Luckily, Disney could hire me and I would glady make themed Space Mountain merchandise and fix the problem. :sohappy:

Yeah, that's what I said a few days ago. We need to start with SOME sort of story (regardless of if we have a sponsor), and then offer the merchandise from it. If people are so adament about riding a ride that we all agree isn't so thrilling, they're gonna be even more enthusiastic to spend money on it.
Hey, you could work along side me! We'll design the merchandise, go around acting like guests and wearing it, giving it more exposure so people will purchase it. And then, we'll get paid to walk around eating yummy dole whip, making people hungry so they'll go buy it! Sigh, its a tough job, but somebody will have to do it. As fun as it is to be an "attractions hostess", I'd be willing to make a sacrifice :animwink:

Gosh, this is still imprinted in my head:
"space mountain is a thrilling, high speed turbulent roller coaster type ride in the dark, that includes sharp turns, sudden drops, and stops. for a safe space flight, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions which could be aggrevated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride, and passengers who do not meet the minimum height requirement may not ride. Be sure to supervise children at all times, and remember that passengers in wheelchairs must transfer into a rocket to participate in this launch. Thank you. And enjoy your flight."

Now that I think of it with the whole "we want more adult rides" idea...Didn't Disney already try some ride to that nature and have replaced it?

Ok, Im brand new to this website but after reading all the posts on Sapce Mountain I have a few things to say:
1.) you can NOT change Space, because its a classic ride!! Probably THE BEST attraction at MK. I have had the pleasure of working there during "the busy season" aka x-mas and trust me as long as our ride can keep having those 90minute wait times there is not a single soul that will let anybody change anything about that ride. I use to ride Space at least 3 times a day and I miss it so much.
2.) I'm so glad to see my fellow CP's working so hard to promote Space Mountain!!! (Shoutout to Mel, Carissa, and Dave)
3.) Space Mountain merchandise is not the best I will admit that, but they do have the best hats. I got my SPMT hat while in Florida and I wear that with pride around my college campus. So the merchandise is about the only thing that Disney should look into updating.

I think someone said this before, but I think SM was originally designed to be and should remain a family oriented THRILL ride. Everyone should have fun riding it, not just all out thrill seekers. Sure, you can speed it up a little, change the effects, do whatever .. just keep it so that it is accessible to all ages, like Walt originally intended. If you want an all out crazy thrill coaster, go ride RnRC .. that's what it was intended for. The last thing I want Disney to turn into is a Six Flags wannabe (PS. I also really love thrill rides, in case you were wondering!)

Yep.
That's what Disneyland thought.

Sooner or later, the thing is gonna have to have a major overhaul, probably with new track at the very least. Coasters will only run for so long before becoming a problem to maintain.

It would be extremely cost-effective to replace all the track with some which is more modern. Keep the old layout if you must, but add effects and music. Pitch it as a whole new experience. THEN
watch them line up.

Honestly, I've never seen people cling to something so hard.
