Space Mountain

Yep.
Actually it's not paint, it's white panels.

It sticks out like a sore thumb in that Verne-ish Tomorrowland.
Maybe they are gonna change it next summer.

Well, they didn't directly paint the mountain, did they?

They installed new panels that were already white before they were installed. White panels.

When did he ever say anything about the color of prefab concrete?

One quick question...does space mountain in DL have a soundtrack on board the cars. I've never actually visited DL...WDW is the only Disney location I've been to.

Well NoLimits is better at building Rollercoasters but RCT2 is better at theming. Especially for the people who the the game from back to front and somewhere in the middle...

Panels...what do they imply to you? Prefab, PIP, fiberglass?

During recent construction, it was discovered that the roof had a few problems. It was decided to cover the cone with special panels. They are specially designed, color infused, polymer panels. In theory they will not rot, not fade, not...anything.

The color was chosen by WDI as "Space Mountain White", and I for one will miss the unique TL98 paint job.

The spires on top were painted.

All this will allow for some pretty cool lighting effects on the Mountain.

There was definately no paint involved, other than the spire area. The cone itself was covered with white panels. Supposedly they never need painting, you just wash them off. I hear they are already needing a rinse.

That was in a MiceAge/Al Lutz update wasn't it?

That's not where I got it.
However, Al got it exactly right. For once.
Many "insiders" were saying it was just primer for another coat to come later.
Nope. That 's it.

Note: I edited my other post after getting out the info.

highly doubt....

I highly doubt plastic panels were used on the exterior of that attraction. That's a serious waste of money and not necessary.

What 'problems' did they discover that need 'plastic' to cover up a 'concrete' issue?

O.k...maybe I should say this: did any of you actually see them install panels, what size were they, and don't start guessing. I want to hear from people that actually saw the installation of these magical white panels and not 2nd hand information from people who don't know anything about construction.

Tiles is more believable, but 50 feet long panels...get real. I'm heading over there to take a closer look.

Since the brand new copy of the original track is built with a bulkier 21st century coaster track, the entire ride structure will weigh many tons more than the 1977 original did. There are still months and months of work left on simply preparing the original foundation, digging an additional five feet out for a lower floor, and retrofitting new support structures inside the original dome. And all of that is just in preparation for the actual track installation that is scheduled for late this year.

Speaking of Space Mountain's surprise return to white, that's not actually white "paint" on the exterior of Space Mountain. While the uppermost section of the dome was painted the traditional way, the dome itself was actually layered with a new building material that has a pre-selected color infused into the panel material itself.

The WDI artists selected a very specific color of "Space Mountain white" for the panels, and then the manufacturer brought the pre-fabricated panels to the Anaheim site for installation. The top section of the dome was then painted with a color that matches the paneling perfectly. Those new roof panels will never need actual painting, and they are supposed to remain bright and durable for decades to come (not to mention WHITE).

al though this sounds slightly more reasonable...I still think he's confused about that fact that this is probably the 'interior' we are talking about. A majority of that building has been painted concrete. If there are tiles on that building...I just don't believe it...you've got a lot of details missing as to WHY this has happened. No one explaining why they do that...people just don't spend money and clad a concrete structure.

And don't give me 'there are problems' what KIND of problems....and DON'T guess.

Space mountain is what...120 ft across? So, I'm going to find 80 ft panels when I go there...never mind that's impossible to transport...but according to Lee and Al Lutz...I'l find em'!

Give me break
