Space Mountain Refurbishment Info

I've had mixed feelings about the refurb since it was announced. I like the idea because well, let's be honest... if nothing else, IT'S TIME. I could be wrong (it wouldn't surprise me :ROFLOL:), but there have GOT to be structural concerns to address, to say nothing of the asbestos removal.

On the other hand, as far as the queue goes, I'll miss it. In my mind, it was one of those things like Cinderella's Castle that just sat in my mind as one of the constants in Disney.

I didn't mind the TL refurb, that needed to be done. I can remember walking through TL and thinking, wow, the future looks a lot like the 70's... :lookaroun

Ah well.. Here's hoping that they'll do a great job and we'll have something just as fantastic as the original SM was on that first visit we all remember.

Has there been enough site prep work done for them to know that they won't have to change the supports? Basically is there a chance that they get in there and realize that there's a lot more work that needs to be done?

I've wondered the same thing. I bet if this is the case, we'll hear something about it fairly soon.

Do we know if they are replacing the track with more wonderful 1970s-era Matterhorn-style track or something remotely modern? I guess we can't hope for full modern track replacement with new trains in this timeline.

New trains aren't happening.

Lee and others have said they believe banked turns will be park of the refurb... That's at least a LITTLE better than direct replacement of 70's era track. But I don't know how much.

Last I heard most, if not all the track, is being replaced (even that is an improvement on last summer) - with the hops smoothed out and the turns banked more. And no, no new trains, just refurbed ones.

Last I heard.

So will the ride finally be SMOOTH and fast like the Anahiem version? I hated that rickety fealing the old track had like it was some old coney island coaster. The tracks were also very filthy and I don't think they were cleaned since before 2000. I can't imagine how much dust and crap people inhaled during the "adventure"

Is the plan to still seperate the queue from the attraction? Will it get some rethemeing? This is actually one of the deal breakers for me.

Pixie dust isn't crap ... it can't cause cancer, sexual dysfunction or hair loss ... although it may make you enjoy show tunes.

A while ago someone posted an image of the new queue configuration that would utilize the switchbacks again with fastpass going along the outside of both the alpha and bravo switchback areas, kinda like how fastpass is set up on Big Thunder.

Would we also see a single rider line added? I would think that conceptually it would be as effective as it is on Test Track.

I doubt it, unless they could widen the tunnel, which I don't know is possible, there really isn't room for a single rider line.

You could send fastpass and single rider down the same queue and split them off later on prior to the fastpass collection point (or right at the turnstyle where the cm can keep an eye on where they go).

That would be incredibly confusing, and probably not too efficient. Believe me, as a CM, that's asking for more trouble than it would be worth.

It`s very possible - if they spent the money to get rid of the maintainence corridor. Of course, they could send SRs with the FPs and have an enhanced merge (or triple gate check) as mentioned above.

Thanks, Martin.

I could only see them doing the widening. FP mixed with SR seems like asking for trouble, IMO.
