Soarin' Expansion and new Soarin' Around the World film

I agree that the third theater is more important than any queue enhancements. However, I also really appreciate the "placemaking" that is a hallmark of Disney theme park experiences, and Soarin's queue seems to really lack that. Something that adds to the story of this magic hangglider (or whatever) might add to the experience.
I remember I was so angry at the lack of backstory in the ride that I created one as a kid (mine was that the hangglider was actually a new flying machine being tested). It definitely needs an actual one, though!

Not sure why that is important really. The greatest thing that they can do to enhance the queue was add the theater so you can spend less time in it.
Maybe add a ceiling too....

Backstory and theming would go a long way instead of dusty light fixtures, conduit and air con systems. But the rides location, due to the poor planning and reason for it in 2003/4, leads to a conundrum. The history of flight exhibit would be perfect to fill the queue. But the pavilion is about the land, not the air.

The history of flying combine harvesters?

Were fast passes ever released or has everyone gotten them already? The website says there are no more available, even though I was there as soon as they were released.

Maybe go old temple ruins and how the man was interested in the sky and sought to fly over the land? Anything would be better then what we have...

Go look again. Seems like it took a while for them all to load in or show up or whatever. Tons available now.

Soarin' doesn't even show up for me for June 13th :( i wonder if they were never loaded for that date?

EDIT: I'm such a noob. I forgot EPCOT had tiers, so that's why it wasn't showing up

I have to disagree with that (yes, I know.. big surprise). That is something that has been said over and over again about land vs. air, but, really.. it isn't just about flying, it's about flying over and observing the land under it. The different terrains, the different and varied things that the land affords us. Tell me, when riding it do you look up to see what is in the air above? Can't anyway because the design limits your look to the earth. It isn't really about hang gliding since very few hang gliders I have ever seen have bench seats and huge numbers of people suspended from one. Even the best of imaginations cannot possibly think that flying is what they are doing. What they are doing is experiencing the view of the "land" from a different perspective that we do not usually experience it. It far more belongs in "The Land" then any history of flight exhibit could possible make it fit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, doesn't Soarin' over California have an actually hanger looking theme to it as well. It seems that when I saw it last (in 2005) it was totally nasty overhead. Dust an inch thick and all kinds of vents and pipes exposed. I don't even remember noticing what the ceiling in Epcot looks like. Wasn't my focus. Couldn't help but notice it in DCA.

And I was the opposite. Couldn't miss it in Epcot.

And yes, the DCA version has a queue full of flight props. I found it a nice change.

Ummm.... It's called Soarin'

Sorry, Martin... being called Soarin' is totally irrelevant to the attraction other then the method of observing the land below. In DCA it's called Soarin' over California. They dropped the "over" part in Florida, but, with the change over to Soarin' over the world it will change the dynamic, if we must use words, instead of imagination, to define exactly what it is we are seeing.

So it's a nice change in California, but, atrocious in Florida. Sorry, that doesn't compute. I will admit that the queue in Epcot is really nothing more then the way to get to the ride. There is no theming just a queue that doesn't seem to have an end. I sometimes get the feeling that they didn't expect it to be as big as it turned out to be and felt that most everyone would be in rapid forward motion to get to the ride itself. No one was going to take the time to look at anything in the tunnel affect that became necessary in Florida. To me it's reminiscent of the queue for Indy in DL. That was themed but who had the time to look at it.

Let's agree to disagree then.

But tell me how you get rapid forward motion when stood in that line for an hour in standby? Prime candidate for elaborate theming. As opposed to waving at a video screen that doesn't work.
At least you could walk by people that were fixated on the screen waiting for something to happen...

Got Soarin' Fastpass+ for June 9th. It took a while, but finally worked.

I'm trying to get into My Disney Experience right now online...it's soooo slow and unable to find everything right now. Can't populate my fastpass page at all.

Come on computer dorks!! I need my Soarin' Fastpass!!!!!

EDIT: Got it! :)

That's the problem and the reason why it doesn't have elaborate theming. I don't think that they expect the line to be backed up through the entire queue. Perhaps with the extra theater they are expecting it to be rapid forward motion until they get to the final queuing area.

I agree to disagree simply because if they had named "Living with the Land" something like "Boat ride through the Land" would it no longer have been about the land, but, instead be about a boat ride? To me it is nothing more then a vehicle used to experience a defined thing and that would be the landscape we live on. Living with the Land is an essay on how were use the land to survive. Soarin' is more how we use the land for recreation. Fits very well, I think.

Orlando Park News tweeted last night that the new queue was underwhelming with not much change. Not a good sign.
I have been able to get a glimpse of the queue, and it does look very similar. The walls appear to have changed color (from beige to blue). I hoped they would change it and give it a more natural look. It's in The Land pavilion, after all!
