So we're exactly 3 years away from WDW's 40th. When do they start prepping?

Not that I'm advocating removing Swiss Family Treehouse, but there is more room there than you would think. Especially considered unused space and wasted space (canal). I superimposed the Haunted Mansion show building over this area to give you an idea of the size.

Nice job! Potential new digs for FotLK??? Seems there is space enough:)

just a question, is there ANY chance of a TRON attraction to coincide with the new movie? I know Lasseter wants new rides to open with the movies and I know he loves TRON so that may lead to help an attraction based on it.

i bet for the 50th there is gona be a new park

I hope not! Sure 10 years in a long time, but if resources and money start being poured into a fifth gate the other 4 parks will never get what they need. We have 2 parks that are (arguably) half-day experiences, the MK has not had a new E-Ticket attraction added in over 15 years (TLM might change this), and Epcot needs a few more referbs to the current pavilions (looks at Energy, WOL, and JIYI).

Overall, things are looking good, but no where near good enough to warrant a full fledged fifth gate.

Definitely! A 5th gate would be a waste of resources. It is amazing how much land is available at ALL 4 parks that could be and should be used.

Can't tell you anything about announcments...but you can expect to see dirt begin being pushed around within the next 8 months at one park for sure.
Quite possibly two.
:D

Just throwing in my guesses.

New Ride = Little Mermaid at MK or Monsters Inc. at DHS
New Area = Expanded Muppet Area at DHS or New Land for AK

I think we need some exciting news from WDW. The boards have been a little dry lately.

Okay, this is going to be unpopular but here it goes. I don't see why something grand is expected every 5 years for the "anniversary." I mean, 25th, 50th, etc. okay those are milestone anniversaries. But I don't see what the big deal about "40" is....sorry. Sure it would be nice to see some new rides, I'm not saying it wouldn't be...but we're 3 years out and people are already talking about it? Just seems like a bit much.

You're not alone. I agree with you. I think the big ones like 10, 25, 50...etc. should be celebrated. But I'm always a little confused when people expect something big out of the 30th or 40th anniversary. But to each his own.

In Al's latest report, he comments that WDW's version of the Little Mermaid will be somewhat smaller. It was my impression that the 20K plot was plenty big enough. Is space an issue, or is this most likely just a budget concern?

The DCA one is targeted for late 2011, so that would put WDW's version at least into 2012 or later. By all accounts this one sounds like it will be well done.

Al likes to toot about every WDW attraction being a scaled-back, inferiorly-detailed, smaller-budgeted clone. I'll take that with a sprig of nutmeg.

WDW could be first

There seems to be some problems with the semantics of what a "dark ride" means. I've seen this happen before on this board, and only on this board.

In California a "dark ride" is known as a small car traveling on a bus bar track past little show scenes.

In Florida, people seem to be using the term "dark ride" to mean any ride that happens primarily in the dark. Floridians seem to be lumping Snow White's Scary Adventure in with Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion.

Californians know their dark rides. Floridians seem to be confused over the title of such a ride concept. C'est la vie!

According to http://www.laffinthedark.com/ and http://www.dafe.org/ a DARK RIDE can be a traditional rail ride, omnimovers, indoor boat rides or sometimes even simulators. These are people who know their dark rides and I've been a member of these sites for years.

So maybe people in CA actually are the confused ones.
