Not that I'm advocating removing Swiss Family Treehouse, but there is more room there than you would think. Especially considered unused space and wasted space (canal). I superimposed the Haunted Mansion show building over this area to give you an idea of the size.

Goofing. You know the big 40th surprise is a 10 year countdown celebration to the 50th, right? Are you being serious or just goofing around?
I should have seen that coming... :lookarounYou know the big 40th surprise is a 10 year countdown celebration to the 50th, right?
i bet for the 50th there is gona be a new park
Maybe a small boutique park, but I pray not a full fledged one. Improvements are needed at the existing ones first.
Hey, by then maybe all the needed improvements will be done!
The way things are right now I would hope a new park is not in the forecast.i bet for the 50th there is gona be a new park

I hope not! Sure 10 years in a long time, but if resources and money start being poured into a fifth gate the other 4 parks will never get what they need. We have 2 parks that are (arguably) half-day experiences, the MK has not had a new E-Ticket attraction added in over 15 years (TLM might change this), and Epcot needs a few more referbs to the current pavilions (looks at Energy, WOL, and JIYI).
Overall, things are looking good, but no where near good enough to warrant a full fledged fifth gate.
Can't tell you anything about announcments...but you can expect to see dirt begin being pushed around within the next 8 months at one park for sure.
Quite possibly two.
Okay, this is going to be unpopular but here it goes. I don't see why something grand is expected every 5 years for the "anniversary." I mean, 25th, 50th, etc. okay those are milestone anniversaries. But I don't see what the big deal about "40" is....sorry. Sure it would be nice to see some new rides, I'm not saying it wouldn't be...but we're 3 years out and people are already talking about it? Just seems like a bit much.
In Al's latest report, he comments that WDW's version of the Little Mermaid will be somewhat smaller. It was my impression that the 20K plot was plenty big enough. Is space an issue, or is this most likely just a budget concern?
The DCA one is targeted for late 2011, so that would put WDW's version at least into 2012 or later. By all accounts this one sounds like it will be well done.

There seems to be some problems with the semantics of what a "dark ride" means. I've seen this happen before on this board, and only on this board.
In California a "dark ride" is known as a small car traveling on a bus bar track past little show scenes.
In Florida, people seem to be using the term "dark ride" to mean any ride that happens primarily in the dark. Floridians seem to be lumping Snow White's Scary Adventure in with Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion.
Californians know their dark rides. Floridians seem to be confused over the title of such a ride concept. C'est la vie!
I was about to say the same thing.Al likes to toot about every WDW attraction being a scaled-back, inferiorly-detailed, smaller-budgeted clone. I'll take that with a sprig of nutmeg.
