Rumor- Magicbands will be required for some character meet n greets

Back to the original topic.... it's not that a Magicband specifically will be required, it's that some character M&Gs will only be FP+ enabled. Meaning if you do not book a FP+ for that character, you won't be able to see said character. There are not many (none at MK will be this way), as it'll be more common to have dual operations (such as TST is currently set up).

Everyone will have a FP+ option: on-site, off-site, Passholders, CMs... it's just prioritizing what you want to do. Not as big of a deal as I think people are thinking it would be.

So, if this is the case, then most of the issues that people were having in here about the meet and greets (placing people into categories - MagicBand v RFID Card, Passholder, etc. are null and void) - if all they are going to do is add more meet and greets to FP+, then the only issue will be if "meet and greet" FP+ and "attraction" FP+ will come out of the same "daily number" that you get - if your child really likes meet and greets, and you reserve three of them, then is that your daily usage gone? (no FP+ for Dumbo or Peter Pan?) And, for meet and greets, if the adults taking the children into the meet and greet are not going to interact with the character/get their picture taken, do they also have to use one of their daily allowance on basically supervising the child?

for what it is worth, magic bands will never be required of anyone. Guests will get an RFID card when they enter instead of a crappy paper card. You will have the option to upgrade to a magic band if you so choose. Resort guests will get magic bands, but have an option to switch back to a card if they so choose. No one is going to force anyone to wear the band. I personally think they are cool, maybe because I have held on in my hands and gotten to see how much easier it will be for people. I'm excited by these changes.

So let me see if I have all this straight....there is going to be something called MyMagic+, which interfaces with Fastpass+, Photopass+, hotel key+, Magicband+, and RFID+, and all those interface with My Disney Experience+ on the computer, My Disney Experience+ on smart phones, and My Disney Experience+ kiosks in the parks, and the "+" stands for increasing Disney's profits, while supposedly plussing my visits to all these places, + giving Disney more information about me, + giving Disney my location at all times. Do I about have it right so far? I'm Lost+ LOL

That's about right. And when they come out with the new-and-improved version, they are going to call it:

MyMagic++

I just want to know when will the "New Fantasyland" stop being called "New"?

Then they should be more proactive with their communication.....

... unless they dont really know what theyre doing with this.

Do you think I'll get a magic band by july?

I will preface this with that I have no inside information; It is my observation and belief that they are nowhere near ready for a full scale test and rolling this out during peak season might be a horrible idea.

Then again, its always peak season anymore. Except Wednesday - that was really nice.

Lessened how? Currently you're getting a mute mouse. After Magicband becomes the norm you'll be getting... a mute mouse. That's not lessened.
That's like saying if they build Fire Mountain, but open it only to Magic Band wearers... before you had no Fire Mountain, if you opt out you still have no Fire Mountain. There's no real reason people would need Magic Bands; requiring them at a meet-n-greet is just a way to punish people who don't want to go for the whole band thing.

God bless the "Ignore" button.

The Magicbands are a vital part of the meet and greet. The way, I'm assuming, Disney is running the interactive meet and greet, is via the Magicbands as opposed to obtrusively stopping every family entering and asking the names of each kid like you're about to ride ET or something. Your "Fire Mountain" simile is a pretty gross exaggeration. They're not building anything new, they're just adding an enhancement that requires the guest to provide information that furthers the experience. You can still do your meet and greets, but you can't expect them to build a bridge if you don't give them the necessary materials.

What I don't like is the fact that off-site guests will have to pay for these bands. Sometimes families save for a long time and just can't afford to stay on property so they get a cheap hotel offsite. What happens when one family can't go to these "VIP experiences" like little Johnny and Susie over there because they can't afford the bands? What are they supposed to tell their kids? "Sorry but we're not special enough to get a band like that" They want this whole FP+ thing to allow people to have a more fair opportunity to get FPs yet with VIP things with the magic bands, they're excluding people. Hardly seems fair to that family of 4 who saved up for 3 years to take their family to Disney.

It's no different than the 'VIP experiences' they didn't get before MyMagic+.. special tours.. Plaids.. eating in the fancy resturant, playing on the cool boats, etc.

If someone is there on a shoestring, stretched budget, it's their responsibility to communicate and manage their child's expectations... I'd be more concerned with parents lying to their children and setting up false hopes.

But the point is.. there has always been add-ons in the parks that not everyone could afford, or wanted to pay for - this is not some new tax that will break the camel's back.
