Roger Clemens...is he worth it?

I heard Clemens was complaining about the changing wind directions last night and that his mouth became dry toward the end. Gimme a break, Roger! Stupid excuses!

I don't know what to think anymore about Clemens or the Yankees. Just when I thought they were back on track, they score 5 runs in three games and get swept. They were 1 for 19 with men in scoring positions...that sucks big time.

On the other hand, let's not take anything away from Colorado. They beat both the Yanks and Sox 5 out of 6 games. They look pretty decent this year.

Was the wind different for the opposing pitcher?

This isn't like football where a kicker is either kicking into the wind or with the wind

His mouth got dry towards the end? He didn't even go 5 innings!

Plus, they were in Colorado...it's not like they were in Arizona or Cali.

There is little doubt today the Rockies think he is worth every penny the Yankees spent on him...you know, from the Rockies point of view.:D

not a big sports fan here.

Umm...ok :lookaroun

From the title...what threw you off that this may not be about sports? :lookaroun

Johnny Damon said, when Clemens was announced as a Yankees player...that, in order for them to be in the AL East race, the Yanks would need to be within 5 games by the time Roger started.

They are a confusing team...not consistent at all...didn't they just come off winning 9 in a row?

Very confusing. The only thing I can put my finger on is the thin pitching staff, but the offense has seemed to have gone AWOL lately. Put it all together and you get a mediocre .500 team. Take a look at even the wild card race, and they've got a lot of teams to pass just for that.

It's a disappointing season even for us. Sure, we love to see the Yankees tanking...but, some of the luster of the baseball season is lost so far this year. A lot of Sox fans love when it comes down to the last series of the season and you're trying to do the math to see how each team could grab the AL title. It's not a lock...heck, it's not even the All Star break yet...but it's just a little lackluster so far.

(NOTE: I do not wish the Sox to tank the season to make it closer  )

I have to really admire Sox fans. I don't know how they managed to stick by their team all those years. As a Yankee fan, I expect my team to be in the hunt right til the end. I have a hard time watching a full game when they're playing like this. When they cut the Sox lead to 7.5, I thought for sure we were back in business. Now we're back to 11.5 and while it's still only June, the time to panic is fast approaching. The way the Sox are playing, the Yanks can't count on them collapsing in August or September in order to cut their lead. I may not be writing the Yanks off yet, but it's hard to find a fan out there that is optimistic about the outcome.

Don't you think George must be asking himself the very question that started this thread?

They've been broken way too much

Oh, and I've been hearing words (louder than whispers) that a certain Mark Beurhle may be heading to Beantown :lookaroun

While I was out running today and listening to sports talk radio, a caller called in with a rumor that George is going to "allow" Torre to resign at the all-star break and then Joe Girardi will take over the team. George is hoping this will spark the team, ala the 1978 situation when Lemon took over for Martin.

Roger: 1-3, and he had no strikeouts last night. Torre said he was never in a situation where he had to strike anyone out. :veryconfu This season is screwed.

Was the mound too soft for him this time?

Did the guy selling popcorn yell too loudly?

LMAO...Did Torre really say that? COME ON??? You're yankin' my rope aren't you? LOL That's great...classic.

I'm actually looking forward to that miniseries on ESPN "The Bronx is Burning" which is about just that situation in '78. It looks really good.

I have to say that I'm generally happy about the way this baseball season is going. The big and might I say nice surprise is that Milwaukee has a huge lead in the NL Central and that lead is over a second place Cubs, instead of the Cardinals or Astros.

The rumor about Torre leaving is just a rumor.

The one about Clemens not needing to strike out anyone was an actual soundbite I heard this morning.

Where's Billy Martin when we need him? :animwink:

When is a pitcher NOT needed to strike anybody out? Isn't that the reason for paying mucho-money for a pitcher???

Nah, they just needed to fill a spot in the starting rotation with someone well known so the fans wouldn't kill them for putting another young inexperienced guy in. The didn't expect him to not do well, though.

I actually signed on to say this exact thing. Without divine intervention, I just don't see this team recovering.

The Sox aren't helping themselves by losing while the Yanks are in this funk.

Torre's comments about Clemens is mindboggling. Just once I'd like to see Torre lose his patience and rip into this team. Enuf with the soft spoken crap!

It also doesn't help that nobody is exactly sure when Schilling will return.

Dice-K pitched another amazing game and walked away with a no-decision and an eventual Sox loss.

8 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts. That's one heckuva day to walk away with nothing to show for it.
