Roger Clemens...is he worth it?

They'll have to give Giambi away, that is, if anyone wants him. And, even at my age, I'll bet I can throw harder and farther than Damon. He can hardly reach the infield, let alone throw a guy out a home. But, like you said, he still makes things happen offensively when he gets on base.

A-Rod is the biggest loser of all time. Mega millions spent for this guy to take the Yanks to a world series and he still hasn't done it. And what's with these after-hours parties with the lap dancers? I guess he was celebrating the Angels sweep of the Yanks last weekend. And that incident last night with the pop fly was really bush-league play and totally unnecessary.

Can money buy you a pennant?

Here's a photo of what the Yankee payroll looks like: a quarter billion dollars!

A-Rod has been a cheap player all along...it's just being more "publically" known now since he's in the spotlight because he's wearing pinstripes.

Remember that ALCS game where he tried to smack the ball out of Arroyo's glove? Come on...that's just really unprofessional.

How about this season when he threw an elbow at Dustin Pedroia to break up a double play?

And now this thing last night...he knew what he was doing.

A-Rod is a disease. When Jeter, the captain of your team, won't even comment on your behalf...that's pretty sad. Actually, to be honest, I have more respect for Jeter for NOT commenting on it...it just shows you that he's a team player, wants his team to win, and will try his hardest (FAIRLY) to have his team succeed. Much of my respect was won by Jeter the day he dove into the stands to make that play. That's a guy that will go all out.

I don't think he will be as effective.

What is his motive to keep playing? It can't be the money can it? I mean, he already has a ton. Maybe it's really his love for the game.

Giambi is now out for at least 3-6weeks...possibly the season.

Big weekend coming up too...

I foresee Damon stepping into the DH role.

It's only June 1st and we're looking at this series as if it were late September. It's boggles the mind!

Does this remind you of the 1978 season when the Yanks were 14.5 games behind Boston which culminated in the infamous Bucky Dent homerun during the one game playoff? That was one of the most exciting finishes ever cuz, if I remember correctly, the Sox actually fell behind the Yanks in September and made a comeback of their own which forced the playoff game.

This is one of the greatest rivalries of all time and I'm gonna be royally PO'd if the Yanks are too far out of it in September to make a difference.

Damon as DH? Yep! Melky does more than an adequate job filling in the outfield. I thought he did great last year when Matsui broke his wrist. He was a big part of keeping the Yankees in the hunt last year when things looked bleak with the injuries.

I really miss the clutch hitting of Bernie Williams.

$22 million dollars is a nice chunk of change for summer work. :ROFLOL:
I can't see how three months pitching every 5th game could turn things around. The guy has some strange perks in his contract which could pose problems with the other players. For instance, he doesn't have to travel with the team if he's not scheduled to pitch. He is allowed to go home? Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I still think 'team spirit' is important and when guys have 'unusual' perks when others are totally shut out, it creates hard feelings. I heard that A-Rod doesn't stay in the same hotel with the rest of the team...what the hell is up with that? Maybe it's indicative of what were seeing on the field...no team effort.

The Yankees are the Yankees...they will never be out of it. Look at the Red Sox last year...they were far ahead and didn't even make the playoffs. It's only June 1st...you KNOW they'll be in it.

He'll still get his money

From what I understand, if he isn't added to the 25 man roster, the deal is void. As of today, the Yankees have not added him.

"Cashman said that Clemens will remain in Tampa as he works his way toward starting the clock on the prorated $28 million, one-year deal he signed with the Yankees on May 6."

Which leads us to another question in this thread about whether it's all about the money for Clemens. Clemens could have easily showed up tonight, pitched to a few batters then complained of an injury. The Yanks would then be on the hook for millions. Instead, he emailed Torre and told him about the 'tired' groin, whatever that is, and the Yanks have not yet added him to the roster. I think if this injury goes too far into June, the Yanks might back out of the deal citing chronic injuries to Clemens and saving face for everyone.

I think it's strange that Clemens emails Torre instead of picking up the phone.

Who wants to bet he doesnt make a start this season.....anyone......anyone.

I'd say the odds are no better than 50/50 on a start this year. The guy is almost 45 years old and things don't mend as fast as they did at 25. :veryconfu

I'll bet the Yanks are calculating the risk vs rewards as we speak.
