Roger Clemens...is he worth it?

Now...that being said, is Roger Clemens worth the 28 million dollars that he is receiving?

Roger is off the Yankee playoff roster.

I almost felt bad for him last night. Almost...except for the matter of millions of dollars and little to show for it.

Let's hope Roger decides to slip quietly into the annals of baseball where he'll be fondly remembered and revered for his distinguished pitching career.

Ya know...Roger put a bad taste in everybody's mouth. He did it to himself...if he didn't hold out and hold out and hold out and make a huge production year after year...people would respect him a little more.

He himself put the Yankees in a bad position when they couldn't rely on having him for the postseason. Sure, he couldn't predict that he was going to get hurt...but maybe he "got hurt" because he didn't want to be responsible for the Yankees being knocked out. Who knows.

He should have used Cingular so that his call wouldn't have been dropped.

Now that there season is over, let's re-answer the original question: was he worth it? Not even close. They would have still won the wild card without him and they would have still been stiffed in the playoffs without him. Roger, for the sake of integrity for the game you love so much, please retire permanently. And that also goes for Mike Mussina too. The Yanks still have Giambi and Mussina tied up next year for $40 million. YIKES! It's time to rebuild and do it from within. All of the chips George has laid on the table must now be cashed in and it's gonna start at the top with Cashman and Torre. Thanks for 12 great years, Joe. And kudos to all the Red Sox fans who have had nothing but respect and admiration for Joe.

I actually feel bad for Joe Torre. How can a manager get your team to the playoffs 12 years straight (including 6 World Series) and get canned. Cashman should get the boot...for spending all of the money and having nothing to show for it.

I'm sure Joe will have NO problem getting another job...and, I have a feeling the Red Sox will see that team in the playoffs next year.

My hunch is that when Torre leaves the Yankees, he walks off into the sunset, never to manage again.

But, my hunch could just be gas....

I have mixed feelings about Joe Torre at this point. This series was lost on the field, not in the dugout. There is so much wrong with the Yankees it's hard to know where to start. The Yankee pitchers were horrible and their hitting was worse. Most Yankee fans knew going in that thier Achilles Heel was their pitching. The Yanks struggled all year long with a terrible bullpen and weak starters. Wang choked. Mussina didn't let me down, he stunk. Clemens was a bust. But I don't think anyone expected the Yankee bats to go dead, especially against a guy like Doug Bird who throws at the speed of "batting practice." Where are the clutch hitters of the late 90s Yankees...the guys who got the big hits with men on base? And did the Yankees steal any bases in this series? What a mess!

I feel bad for Joe, he has no support from upstairs in the organization. from battling cancer to the boss he has put up with a lot and now is the time to move on. I think that he will be managing next year but not with the Yankees and that his closer will be Mo

Red Sox in 5 :sohappy:

I too have mixed feelings...

Someone needs to be held accountable.

Sure, Joe Torre got the team to the playoffs all 12 years that he managed the team.
6 Times he went to the World Series.

The last 3 years...he couldn't get a team full of All-Stars through the first round of the playoffs...How can you be a manager of a team with the power they have...and not make it further?

Now...on to Cashman. The Yankees suffered from bad pitching more than anything else.
Cashman just went out and got Clemens. "That should make everybody happy!"
What about the bullpen? What about the sliding Mussina? Did you only get Pettitte to get Clemens? Not for nothing...but being able to score 10 runs a game means nothing if your pitching gives up 11.

A-Rod...Ya know...I've heard enough A-Rod bashing...(Hey, I live in Boston  ) Put up or shut up...people say he chokes in the postseason...Does everybody forget the 150+ runs he scored in the regular season that pretty much single handedly got them to the postseason?

Jeter...2 times in the ALDS he had the chance to make something happen (in two different games!)...and he blew it. Oh, but he's the poster boy for the Yankees so we'll just point the finger somewhere else. If he comes in clutch in those two situations...the Yanks would've won the series.

George Steinbrenner...The man at the top... It doesn't matter who makes any decisions under him...he is the man the finger will...and should...get pointed at. HIS team couldn't make it...HIS guys couldn't get it done. Maybe it was HIS bad decision making in choosing Joe Torre, Brian Cashman, scouts, etc. that was the final nail in the coffin. He's paying the bills...and he made the decision to put the men in the positions they are in.

Cashman said it right...It's not one person that is the fall-guy (although Torre has become it)...it's an organization that wins together and loses together. If that's the case...why is it all coming down to Torre? Oh, because I'm sure Cashman put the bug in Steinbrenner's ear to save his own posterior.

If Torre is fired, he'll probably go the route most former managers go... into the broadcast booth/studio analyst role before being lured back by the promise of a great situation managing another team. Probably one that has the talent, but not quite the togetherness to really make a run. The Cubs would be a good example, not that I'm saying he would go there.
