Wang and Mussina are going to be the starters to carry the Yanks.

I guess I was wrong with this statement!

16-0 loss...ouch.

Here is the mentality of a normal Red Sox fan.

There are 6 Yanks/Sox games left this season.

The Yanks could sweep all 6 games...which only leaves a 2 game lead...and the Yankees can easily pick up 2 games in the matter of a weekend.

Come on. You give us too much credit. Here is my version:

The Yanks could sweep all 6 games...there would be a change in the way they do math and the Sox will be 4 goames out.

The way it's been in the past...that would happen

Guess what...I got Dwight Evans' autograph today :)

Being a die hard Yankee fan, you have to look at things realistically. Anything can happen with over a month left in the season. But to overcome the deficit the Yankees put themselves into was tough to do from the very beginning.

Yeah they played great after the break and the Sox started to slump a bit. But your team has to go crazy and the other team has to play lousy for an extended period of time, just to get even. Then after that you still have to play better than that team. So it's a very hard thing to do. That's why it doesn't happen that often.

Things tend to even out over the course of the year. If the Yankees catch the Red Sox I'd be pleasantly surprised but 8 games right now is not something to think about. Winning the division these days is all about bragging rights. Just get into the playoffs is all you need to do.

With all the Yankees injuries and then struggles this year, I'm more than happy with a Wild Card. I'm not being a defeatist, just a realist.

You know I'm not a Sox fan, but I always liked Dwight Evans. Very nice!

It's the third time I've actually "talked" to him...

The first time was when I was little down in Winterhaven...and he was the nicest of all of the players. I think that's the reason he became, and still is, my favorite player of all time.

I saw him in my teen years at Fenway and he wasn't doing a signing...but was just out...and he had nothing but a smile on his face...and you can truly feel that he loves his fans.

Then yesterday I saw him and he hadn't changed a bit...just the nicest guy.

Thanks, Brian. This only reinforces my like for him.

There aren't many professional ballplayers that I've met that I'd say that about...Jim Rice for instance... I met him on two different occassions and he was just a complete jerk the first time...and the most recent, he seemed like he could care less about anybody.

Kevin Millar, on the other hand...he's a class act when it comes to fans.

Ty Law was also extremely nice...I saw him at the local car show when he was hurt and we chatted for about 5 minutes or so... He didn't seem "put out" by me at all...and wasn't just answering questions...he was adding to the conversation, and shook my hand again when we went our separate ways. It was funny because we both were looking at a Viper (and this is at the Bayside Expo Center which is a pretty large place that draws a huge crowd.) This time of night...there was NOBODY there...the place was dead...and I looked up at this guy on crutches with a little girl...and WHOA! That's Ty Law!

Oh good, I'm not the only Sox fan who thinks like that! After the loss last night, I was saying to DH this morning.... uh-oh, the Yankees are right back in it!! No lead is big enough when it comes to the Sox....

Oh, and I agree about Jim Rice... met him once and he was a jerk!! Glad to hear Dewey and Ty Law are nice guys.

So we are 2 behind after last night right? :lookaroun

Hockey players were always the friendliest. Had many a beer with them in the past when we had a pro team in Boston.

He's great. I remember going to Fenway with the family one year and it was Kids Opening Weekend. They had all the players out on the field and fans that showed up early enough could walk along the edge and meet the players, get their pictures and autographs, it was really cool. We were trying to get my kids to go stand with the players so we could take some photos, but they didn't really want to. They were willing to stand with my wife for a photo, though. So they stood together and I got ready to take the picture when Kevin Millar comes running over and sneaks up behind them to get in the picture. It was really great that he did that since the kids wouldn't pose with any other players. lol

See, now I am nervous. Sox had a very good weekend. Yanks bit the big one. Shouldn't I be optimistic??

I am nervous, too. Even after the excitement of the no-no. (that was so great! I was so happy for him) I just can't relax about the standings. I have this feeling that if the Yanks get in the playoffs via the wild card, they could cause problems for the Sox... alot of problems!!

...as long as Scott doesn't come into the thread and say, "The Red Sox will definitely make it to the playoffs," we should be all set

He has a knack for predicting the opposite of what happens

Yeah, my 9 year old was there for the game. I heard about all day Sunday.

Hehe, a guy I work with was at the game and left in the 8th...he got in the car and almost killed himself because he didn't even realize he was going for the no-hitter!
