RnR testing queue-less system that Dumbo's going to use

Everybody has been to a deli or a bakery. Same thing. Watch the digital counter. If your number is far away, you can relax. As it gets closer, you'll know your number is coming soon, and you'll pay attention to the sign more closely. If you can't figure that out or miss your slot, you don't deserve a sandwich, or a cookie, or a ride.

You beat me to it. "Deli" is the first thing that came to mind.

I like this concept, in theory anyway.

This system will work fine. You still wait for your ride time like before and unlike FASTPASS where you can leave the area, here you stay in the general area. Now however you can go find a seat and wait or choose to participate in the interactive games. I think this will help people's moods. Now instead of being crammed in with 100s of people you don't know you can sit and wait for your number to be called. It's no different than waiting in a restaurant for your table to be called.

Sorry but I think I will prefer to do it the old fashioned way. You know, getting into an actual line... This seems like a flop of an idea to me.

This isn't going to be permanent at RnR, just a test for Dumbo's system once it's rolled out. Once it's all done they can make adjustments to Dumbo before it's built.

Having worked at Sesame Place years and years ago as a "ride" operator, I can tell you that when you have a CM at the front of the ride directing traffic, upholding height requirements, dealing with dumb and irate guests, it gets very frustrating and you start to kind of not care. When you get 20 or more people waiting on one or 2 idiots to stop complaining so they can get in line or ask their question the system begins to fail. At least with a line like they use now people know if they get in line and then get out they need to start all over again, forgiving only for bathroom breaks. With FP people either show up early or late, rarely on time. I can see this becoming a bottleneck of people wanting info on how much longer, can I come back just 5 minutes late, etc. That would really make it difficult for CM's to work this properly. I hope it works out for the better, but I see FP as the best option any theme park has so far.

From what I understoood, Dumbo was going to be a three ring circus type of line. You would have a group that would play one ring full of games while waiting, and when the ride emptied and the next group loaded, your group would move to the next ring. This was meant to keep people occupied wih fun while waiting in an orderly "line".

The concept of this has so much potential for greatness. I, for one, don't enjoy standing in long lines. If I could translate that time spent shoulder to shoulder shuffling along trying to keep my boys going into sitting down, having a rest, enjoying a refreshment, planning our next destination, etc. I just don't see how that could be bad.

I'm sure the whole trial period will have it's share of bumps, glitches, and p.o.'d confused guests. I totally feel for those CM's involved and, although I know it isn't gonna happen, hope they get some sort of "combat reimbursement" in addition to their usual wages. :D As flawed as what the system looks right now we just gotta be patient and try to be proactive with this. The potential benefits are there if we can stay open-minded. Change is not a bad thing. The best things in life are worth the effort required to attain them.

I hope they're continuing the tests when we are in the world next month. I'd love to participate!

This could be incredible in an area actually designed to use the system with proper theming and attractions around it to keep small children occupied.

And anyone who has stood on that Dumbo line knows it is like sticking an ice pick through your left eye on a busy day.

If a queue is immersive enough and well done it should not matter. You have to wait either way so what is the dang point?

Essentially fastpass without the fact that you can go and leave and do something else.

Love the idea. Just doesn't work for the RnRC area. There's not enough to do back there. Dumbo will be 1000 times better because there will be games to play and things to distract you. Interesting what they will find doing this experiment tho.

I disagree it will be a disaster for Dumbo as well, there won't be enough games for everyone.

I'll withhold judgment until/if I get to experience this. But my first thought is that it's going to stink not being able to wander around with my old school FPs. I don't like long queues anymore than the next fellow, but I think I will also dislike being forced to hang out at a block party with lots of strangers while I listen to a cheap DJ and watch kids play Rock Band. :fork:

Fastpass functions just like it used to.

Dumbo is if not the most one of the most popular attractions to have enough for erveryone that wants to ride dumbo isn't going to happen.

They'll have a system in place. The thing is still 2 1/2-3 years from opening. They'll know what to do. It'll be a good system.

You could be right but there is no guarentee just because it is Disney doesn't mean it can't be a disaster, look at the bus system.

Totally agree. For Dumbo i guess I can understand, because the people in line are small children and agitated parents. But for a ride like RNR, and most other rides in the World, this is an unecessary overcomplication. Just suck it up and wait in line. People are becoming so spoiled with their iphones and twitter and such that they can't stand around without being entertained for two seconds. Would it kill people to just stand around and talk to their family for a while? This is just stupid.
