Resort-Specific Refillable Mugs

So, after two long years, the Year of a Million Dreams will soon be over. Good, bad, or otherwise, there is the opportunity for some things to change as the YoaMD ends. One of these things is the design on the refillable mugs. Currently, all resorts use the same YoaMD refillable mug. Prior to the YoaMD, each resort had a mug reflecting the theme of that resort.

So, my question is, would you like to see the mugs revert back, or remain universal across the resorts? Please describe what you believe to be the benefits of what you'd prefer.

Let's see what the people want! (I think I know ;))

I'd like to see resort specific mugs again. It's a neat thing to be able to collect. I have an All Star mug that I found at an antique shop and a Dixie Landings mug that I got on ebay. I'd like to be able to acquire other unique mugs from the different resorts, rather than that tacky, generic mug.

Oh, and I would also like to see a return of the old shape as well. The traditional shape that my old Dixie Landings Mug and All Star mug have, and not that silly shape that the YOMD mugs have.

I think I would like to see each resort have their own design reflecting that resorts theming. I don't think I have ever seen them that way so I would like to see how that turns out.

I don't think we'll ever see resort-specific mugs again... Although bringing them back would be the best. From a "quality-of-stay" standpoint.

I doubt it too, but maybe if the response is overwhelmingly in one direction on this thread, certain folks may 'take notice'. I know WDW execs don't use WDW fan forums as their sole decision-making barometer, but I firmly believe our opinions can have, and have had, influence on some decisions.

I understand that it's cheaper to make promo-specific mugs, but how much cheaper? If they were resort-specific, would the increase (if there were any) in sales of mugs make up for the increased cost?

I know if they were resort-specific, I would buy as a "souvenir" on each trip. I don't know how many others feel the same way, or if that would actually harm sales of other resort souvenirs?

I agree.

I think the collectibility of them would make Disney want to have resort specific mugs.

I would like to see the resort specific mug, but I doubt it will happen. Disney is going with the one size fits all to save money. Being in business, I understand that to a point, but Disney was built on uniqueness. I have stopped buying the mug when the Dinning Plan allowed drinks as a snack. The last one I bought was in 05 and I hardley used it.

I will add by having resort specific mugs, there is a less chance of people reusing mugs during different resort visits.

Which is why I prefer generic mugs!

I don't care one way or the other about that aspect, but I just don't understand why some people get so riled up about that. Yes, I know it's technically against the rules, but I don't understand why some people feel the need to get themelves all worked up into a tiz just because someone violates a rule.

I am going to hold out hope that they will go back to resort specific mugs after yoamd. I also prefer the chunky mugs instead of the thinner ones that fit in a coffee holder. I understand why they make the thinner ones, but I just prefer the mug style.

Don't you know better than to start a refillable mug thread?!?:brick:

Though I guess I preferred the resort designs. We have Wilderness Lodge, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century and Dixie Landings (yes, Dixie Landings) mugs in our cabinet. It's always fun to choose one for a drink to-go and now that we have the YOMD ones in there, they certainly aren't the first ones picked.

The money saved is negligible at best. The price of having different mugs printed as opposed to just one style is neither here nor there.

In "small lot" printing changing print jobs isn't cost effective.

There comes a point in "large lot" printing where changing print jobs isn't going to cost much.

I like collecting stuff and I like the resort specific mugs. But, everything has a silver lining. Not having to collect mugs helps me reduce clutter.

Resort specific of course. Mugs are, together with books and towels my favourite souvenirs, souvenirs I actually USE at home every day so I want them to be specific to the resort I stayed at. As I plan to visit several different resorts in the next years (Polynesian, Carribean, PoP Century etc.) I want them all equipped with their own mugs.

I guess I will be different, but I would like to see something unique. I would like for Disney to create 5 different mugs. Each mug would feature one of the parks (the water parks would share one) and a member of the Fab 5. They could include the icon, with a few of the other major attractions around the different parks.

I know that it won't happen...but I can hope.

I want to see each resort back to having their own specific mug. As others have said, it really is a neat collectable. I just found some from Dixie Landings and All-Star Movies the other day.

It's funny how even a refullable mug can trigger memories from a trip long since past.

Was it specific to All Star Movies, or just a general All Star Resorts mug?

The reason I ask is that the mug that I found at that antique store a while back simply says "Disney's All Star Resorts". It has red background, with Huey, Dewey and Lewey playing electric guitars, dressed like punk rockers. Then, there is Donald, with a cowboy hat, playing a regular guitar; Mickey as an orchestra leader, Goofy playing a saxiphone, Pluto laying on the ground with a couple of rattles, and Minnie wearing some kind of Polynesian fruit hat or something, and playing tamborines.

I just wondered if the All Star Resorts ever had unique mugs for each All Star, or if it was always a generic "All Star Resorts" Mug. Heck, even if it was the latter, it least it's still somewhat resort specific. Two people staying at different All Star Resorts may get the same mug, but at least it's a different one than someone else staying at POP or any other resort.

Yes, I do know better than to start one of those divisive WDW morality discussions. However, I carefully skirted the issue with my initial post. If the topic should come up in this thread, it will be the result of thread-drift, and hey, that could happen to any topic!
