Resort-Specific Refillable Mugs

So, after two long years, the Year of a Million Dreams will soon be over. Good, bad, or otherwise, there is the opportunity for some things to change as the YoaMD ends. One of these things is the design on the refillable mugs. Currently, all resorts use the same YoaMD refillable mug. Prior to the YoaMD, each resort had a mug reflecting the theme of that resort.

So, my question is, would you like to see the mugs revert back, or remain universal across the resorts? Please describe what you believe to be the benefits of what you'd prefer.

Let's see what the people want! (I think I know ;))

I like collecting stuff and I like the resort specific mugs. But, everything has a silver lining. Not having to collect mugs helps me reduce clutter.

Awesome job on finding that silver lining!

Seriously - I really miss the resort specific mugs... you made me see the only good thing to come out of a sad situation - Thank you :)

Mug Pictures

Does any one have any pictures of their mugs they could put on here? I've never bought one but this year I'm getting one through ASMu. I don't know what they look like or what the ones looked like before YOAMD.
Thanks!

The money saved is negligible at best. The price of having different mugs printed as opposed to just one style is neither here nor there.

In "small lot" printing changing print jobs isn't cost effective.

There comes a point in "large lot" printing where changing print jobs isn't going to cost much.
Let's see I can make 1 million same logo mug, or lets see 100,000 BW, 200,000 POR, 150,000 YC, etc etc.

Unless you have facts to back up that statemtent, that is with numbers, I'll stick to the business rule of economy of scale.

Why else is Disney going with that model?

I really prefer the resort specific mugs. In fact, this year, I brought my old PO mugs with me (along with the YOAMD ones), just in case. Several people in the food court saw the PO mug and asked where to buy them. Heck - I saw people there with Dixie Landings mugs!

Now don't go off on me because I was "reusing" mugs - I only mention it in support of the resort specific mug topic!!

Is it true Coronado Springs still has resort specific mugs? If so, that's another reason it is my favorite moderate.

I am indifferent, I guess.

I am not too proud of my All Stars mugs (the logos are hokey and everybody knows I went to Disney and stayed in a $49 per night room (that's what it cost back then anyway  ), but if you stay at a value resort you need a mug because there's no coffee in the room and the only place to eat is the food court. :fork:

If you stay at some of the high end Deluxe or Home Away From Home resorts, it isn't as convenient to use the mugs. . . although when you shell out big bucks for a high end hotel, it is nice to be able to take home some resort specific gear without swiping the ashtrays or the room key (70s joke - fugeddaboutit :lookaroun). If I stayed in the Poly and they had a refillable mug, I'd buy it. A generic YOMD mug - probably not.

Disney saves $$ by making them all for one and one for all, and as long as it has Mickey Mouse on it and you can save a few bucks over the course of your vacation by using them, they will continue to sell themselves.

Good Post.

I know I would break the rules if I bought a one for all resort mug. I visit other resorts during my stay and I would refill at all the resorts. :lookaroun I'm not sure why that is a bad thing so sue me:shrug:

Was it specific to All Star Movies, or just a general All Star Resorts mug?

The reason I ask is that the mug that I found at that antique store a while back simply says "Disney's All Star Resorts". It has red background, with Huey, Dewey and Lewey playing electric guitars, dressed like punk rockers. Then, there is Donald, with a cowboy hat, playing a regular guitar; Mickey as an orchestra leader, Goofy playing a saxiphone, Pluto laying on the ground with a couple of rattles, and Minnie wearing some kind of Polynesian fruit hat or something, and playing tamborines.

I just wondered if the All Star Resorts ever had unique mugs for each All Star, or if it was always a generic "All Star Resorts" Mug. Heck, even if it was the latter, it least it's still somewhat resort specific. Two people staying at different All Star Resorts may get the same mug, but at least it's a different one than someone else staying at POP or any other resort.

My All Stars Movies mug says All Stars Resort and then has a picture of Donald, Daisy, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto on a movie set. It's a black background on the picture, but the rest of the mug is white. I bought it back when Movies first opened. The very first mug I bought was Dixie Landings. I have quite a collection of resort mugs. I definitely vote for a return to resort specific mugs.

Apparently, the mugs don't specify by printed words which All Star it is, but they specify it by the picture. From your description, it seems that the mug I have is from All Star Music, then.

I don't know why it is against the rules to use your mug at other resorts. They're all owned by the same company, so what difference does it make if I get my free refills at my home resort or another resort? It's not like you're buying a mug from Disney and then using it at Universal.

I think it makes no difference, but if the mugs had resort specific themes, I'll bet less people would use mug X at resort Y. I would think that would be another consideration in Disney's decision.

I don't have figures for printing mugs, but the same principle applies to any print job.

You have a set up charge and a charge per piece.

Economics 101 teaches diminishing return.

There comes a time where another setup charge is negligible to your per piece cost.

There is also Diseconomy of Scale...but I'm not EVEN going to go into that.

Lucky my education has advanced me past Economics 101. If it didn't save Disney money, they would not have had one size fit all...

Currently 84%* would prefer resort-specific mugs. I wonder if Disney did any research before making the change, or if they just figured cheaper mugs were better. Clearly, cost alone should not have been the determining factor.

We brought our Wilderness Lodge themed mugs which we bought in 2006 on our trip last week and used them in the Roaring Fork. Not to mention, we have about 3 sets of All Star Sports mugs in our cabinet at this moment. I enjoyed the themed mugs from the resorts although I did like the design for the Year of a Million Dreams mugs.

As a direct result of this thread I have purchased on ebay resort specific mugs from places I have stayed in the past ( Dixie Landings & Pop) - I love them and they are currently displayed proudly and bring a smile to my face every time I see them :)

That said, when I am back at Disney - in 31 days! - I won't be buying a new mug. It's not different enough from last years to be worth it...I don't care much for the TOMD mugs anyway.

I liked the resort specific ones, I have one from the Yacht and Beach club that I used a buncha times, since I kept staying there year after year, and one from the Contemporary Resort, when I went there in 2006.
