Ratatouille in Epcot

The thing I don't understand about the whole fluster over having a Christ the Redeemer statue is that there already is religious iconography in the parks. To rattle off a few examples; Hindu gods in DAK's Asia, Stave Church, aka the former Anna and Elsa hug zone, in Norway, and the Mosque in the Morocco pavilion.
Just a shot in the dark here, but I think most Americans are ignorant to the fact that those are recreations of religious structures. They probably just see them and think "Ooooh! Moroccan architecture!" without knowing what it represents. But seeing a straight up statue of Jesus? That will certainly ruffle some feathers. No reason it should, but that's how this country is anymore.

I'm sort of tired of this 'this needs to be exclusive here' yet WDW can't even keep the Dwarf's Mine as exclusive. It's already going to Shanghai. So I'm all for rides not being copied, but unless there's some legal agreement, rides are fair game IMO.

Ratatouille ideally should go to DHS if it does get cloned (um, replace the Jack Sparrow exhibit -- don't know that it's big enough), but the current Epcot just isn't the EPCOT it used to be (sadly and unfortunately). It went out the window with Nemo and Donald's Mexican Adventure and the Food and Booze push. Unfortunately. So I'm looking at the ride through the lense of the 'new Epcot' and it fits.

My ideal EPCOT? Nope it doesn't fit.

So we shall see what they do. It probably won't even happen anyway, much like many many many of the rides proposed over the years.

And my own religious beliefs aside, I don't see Disney ever putting that statue in the parks.

Most Americans still like Jesus.

Absolutely....people seem to forget that if Disney didn't clone rides, we wouldn't even have WDW to begin with.

Well, didn't the Imagineers come up with a whole lot more original things, but Roy nixed those, wanting to make it more like Disneyland? I could have sworn I read that somewhere on the boards here.....

You know what? You're right. There's no way you could use Doctor Who to teach kids about history or England. For that, he'd need some sort of machine that could travel through time and relative dimensions in space.
No need to get snappy with me, I love Doctor Who, but it's primarily set in space and other worlds. That goes in Tomorrowland and it works there. Sure, I would love to see it at Epcot, but I would rather only a few franchise rides the rest should be completely original. Not to mention DW has a history with Tomorrowland, if you want I can explain the history just PM @ anytime.

I am all for seperation of church and state and would not want a statue of christ anywhere i "had" to go (like a government building) but if you are looking for the iconic picture of brazil, it is that mountain with the statue on top. when i go to WS in EPCOT, i want to experience the countries that I most likely (as is the case with most people) will never get to go to in my lifetime. that is why i don't mind the circle theaters and movies showing off the countries (as opposed to rides). I would love a brazilian country in WS. and with all the tourists from brazil along with both the olympics and world cup being hosted, it is as good a time as any to add it.

Oh I agree...and it's the most iconic "visual" of Brazil...

I'd actually love Brazil in WS. The whole carnival aspect could be really fun and they could do the statue like the Eiffel Tower or Beast's Castle.

Since the basic theme of classic Epcot has long since gasped its final wheezing breath, I'm all for Ratatouille in France. Sure, if I had a choice between yet another Pixar tie-in and an original ride concept based in the old Epcot traditions I would pick the latter every time but Disney has zero interest in building those anymore. It would be lovely if they took a page out of Universal's playbook and built it using an accelerated schedule ala Transformers to have it open for guests by 2015. Wouldn't that be a pleasant surprise?

No guys... TWDC is investing now at DLP (€500million)... Ratatouille will be exclusive to WDS

Thats not going to stop them, if they want to build it here they will. As others have posted the R&R is done and TDO likes that, plus I can't help but feel they arent giving Fitz Epcot for nothing.

It's not that I'm not into the ride, it looks great. For DHS.
I just think adding another toon to World Showcase isn't the best move.

You know what, I'm gonna post something (that I probably shouldn't...) in a minute. It'll explain my thinking.

I agree.....we could add several very nice rides to Pixar place....Rat, Door Coaster and topped with Radiator Springs Racers in the back that would actually do tons for that park. You then also do the Star Wars stuff on the other side of the park and that park starts to function better.

They should look deeper into French specific product or stories if they want to add a ride in that WS pavilion. I'd rather see a few more countries and then some serious investment into some of those classic EPCOT ideas paired up with new ride technologies that could bring them to life for both the nostalgic fan and the new fan.

Since they are building the Ratatouille ride in Disneyland Paris, that makes the Ratatouille ride part of the French culture. So as long as they build miniature replica of Disneyland Paris, as the themed queue, to get into the Ratatouille Ride, behind the France Pavilion in Epcot, it will all make perfect sense being in World Showcase... :D

I sadly agree. EPCOT has changed a lot over the years and it can either continue to grow more stale or get some new rides and new life. Some people get offended and say they'd rather have nothing at all rather than a ride that does not fit thematically (I think it does, but whatever). I for one, would rather have new experiences. I think Disney knows that EPCOT at this point is about food and drink and that families with kids get bored. Why can't we have both? Educate people about world culture and fun entertaining rides? If you are Disney management that you are going to go for a movie tie-in. Any ride not based on a movie tie-in is sadly not happening these days. Keep the educational movies, keep the authentic architecture, but maybe add some more rides that can thrill and entertain. Will it ruin the experience of eating in a french restaurant or buying little french curios if next door a family rides an indoor Ratatouille ride that hopefully blends in with its surroundings? I don't think so. I think EPCOT was a different park pre-internet and pre-technology. We live in a different world and people do not get as excited about the idea of EPCOT as they used to. I'm not suggesting cartoons in every country but why can't you use familiar characters to help educate kids and parents alike about the world and its beautiful cultures???

Well, didn't the Imagineers come up with a whole lot more original things, but Roy nixed those, wanting to make it more like Disneyland? I could have sworn I read that somewhere on the boards here.....

They came up with a lot of "variations" on DL attractions for MK, some of which got built, Cinderella castle vs. Sleeping Beauty castle, Grand Prix vs. Autotopia, Liberty Square vs. New Orleans Square, Hall of Presidents vs. Mr Lincoln, 20k Subs vs. Military subs... plus Small World, Haunted Mansion, and the Tiki Birds all got different façade buildings even though the shows inside are more or less the same

But WDW allegedly had plans to re-theme Peter Pan's Flight, Mr. Toad, and Snow White's Adventures with Mary Poppins, Sleepy Hollow, and Sleeping Beauty respectively, but those got nixed in part because Walt was not around to supervise them, plus they didn't want to take the risk on something new since the originals were so popular in DL. Mr. Toad was so popular they ended up doubling it in WDW. The other big one was Western River Expedition instead of The Pirates of the Caribbean but the public nixed that
