Ratatouille in Epcot

It would have to be VERY well done. Let's imagine we ask random Joe these two options and see which gets a better reaction.

"Would you like to ride a thrill ride about the history of manufacturing, or the one with the time-traveling alien who fights monsters?" Now, I ain't a bettin' man....
Well I am and the vast American public would say no. Better to put it in Tomorrowland, because it works there. Not to mention the Random Joe would not know who the hell Doctor Who is.

So then for those who are OK with Dr. Who (and don't get me wrong, I would love an attraction of some sort), then Mary Poppins would be OK to have a ride in the UK pavilion, right?

And while were on the subject of concept art, here are some of the NFL proposals that never went through:

Wonderland/Tomorrowland Entrance and retheme of Circus:

Winnie the poo land:

So I guess Disney still has some great artists...

Marry would work more than the Doctor (which would need updating with each regeneration), it's also a film Americans can relate to and it's actually based and focused on England. Not the universe at large.

Isn't Epcot supposed to teach people about aspects of culture they might not know (the hell) about? Check and mate!

Except it's an opinion of what is good or bad. It's not fact that is a bad idea. It's an opinion help by some on this board.
You hate the idea
I like it
Both opinions

Not really. WS' (and especially EPCOT's) motive was to educate as it entertains. There's nothing educational about a mouse running around a kitchen. That isn't an opinion. It's fact.

If this were going in DHS, fine. But I'd still argue that there are 100 better things they could use the money for.

.

No, absolutely not.

There is a (admittedly subtle) difference between The Doctor and Mary Poppins. Ideally we would have neither in World Showcase. I might be willing to compromise for The Doctor even though I know I shouldn't, and in fact his introduction into the UK would take us farther down a slippery path that I'd really rather not go down.

How about this idea, Disney:

Let's build in Pixar Place
-Ratatouille attraction and restaurant
-Crush's Coaster with Turtle Talk in pre-show/queue (and get rid of Nemo in The Seas)
-Monsters Coaster with Laugh Floor in pre-show/queue (and get rid of it in Tomorrowland)

Improves 3 parks at once

Beautiful post. I'd rather have an Incredibles ride than the Ratatouille thing though. Also, as it's themed now, I think Turtle Talk works very well in The Seas.

My ultimate Pixar Place would include:
• Incredibles Ride (a la Spider-Man) replacing Backlot Tour
• Monsters Inc Door Coaster in Soundstage One
• A Bug's Life play area replacing HISTK and expanded OVER the access road behind it
• A true Pizza Planet replacing the Studio Catering Co
• Al's Toy Barn replacing the shop adjacent to SCC
• A CARS drive-it-yourself (like Indy Speedway) ride around-the-world replacing Lights Motor Action and a bit of the backlot (also making the Indy Speedway at MK expendable)
• A Planes spinner

So much better than what was actually built.

Everyone talks about the aesthetics of the FLE, but is it really a place you can spend a lot of time in? It's too much shoe-horned into a small area while CircusLand is wasted space and there's a vast concrete park of nothing between the carousel and the Village Haus. Bizarre and incredibly poorly designed.

Besides that, you can't get good sight lines of the beautiful work from anywhere because everything is so close together and those damned walls that serve absolutely no purpose.

Your ignoring that France is praising the attraction. Let's be honest, Epcot will never be an educational park again. Yes it's sad, but the sooner we admit it, the better things will be for us all. I would rather have a French inspired film, in a setting praised by the French, then DW. It's something in WS and it brings people in, which thus brings money, which in turn brings more work into the park.

I always thought the Circus was pointless...

FFS, to tide you over, here is my proposal from 2012, full blood and all:
Welcome to today's post where we will discuss the idea of a Doctor Who land. This land is called The Doctor Who Adventure, it is a Miniland inside Epcot's UK pavilion. With two attractions, a live stage show, two restaurants, and interactive experience. The land brings the world in the hit BBC television show to life. First we will talk about the lands location.
FTag0OSjxskEw8TGbkGI6NYOxoGGk0SS2z4ELKDzidvNorFS6bqmHjgEaYeMOAG0HAIwC3uD7s0NV2Azwo5ot7AqbYMTV8bPraxuJ5wU4NT3m5sp8LXEIjvGCAqDg-FRqA
As you can tell from the map it takes up a majority of the pavilion and the exterior is themed to the Victorian Music hall

There will be one Tardis that guest can enter through if they wish (It will not lead into the console room). Once guest enter into the building the will be introduced to the famous Console room with doors that lead off to the rides, show, and restaurants. A photo op will be available by the console. The doors will lead to Clara's Soufflés ( restaurant) And the Pandorica (quick service restaurant) Time Lord Academy (experience) Doctor Who: An Adventure through Space and Time (ride) Vortex Manipulator (ride) and The Doctor Who Experience (show). Clara's Soufflés will be much like Be our Guest in New Fantasyland but with a DW twist. It's decor will be reminiscent of the current companion Clara Oswin Oswald and will have three dining rooms. Each one will be based on the three times viewers have seen her in the Doctor’s Timeline (see The Name of the Doctor, Asylum of the Daleks, and The Snowmen) that means a space age themed asylum, Christmas Victorian London, and a modern London Internet cafe. The menus would revolve around traditional British food and of course Soufflés. The next restaurant known as The Pandorica is based on the season 6 part 1 Finales (The Pandorica and Big Bang Two)

To serve food the round parts will open up like an awning. The food served here would be: fish and chips, and fish sticks and custard (actually cake made to look like fish fingers) , other more American styled food would also be offered to fit the palettes of Americans.

Time Lord Academy

The next area we will go to is the Time Lord Academy which will be a large kid activity center, it would allow kids to learn how to ‘fly a TARDIS’ make a Sonic Screw Driver and write basic Galifrayan in a River Song Journal:

. This area would allow kids and guest to relax or interact with the Whoniverse if they do not wish to ride the attractions.

The next ride is the true centerpiece of the miniland. It uses Sorin 2.0 technology and would be a beautiful representation of the shows heritage. The ride would start out by guest getting into a “Tardis” the Tardis would be uniquely designed to a specific Doctors console room (12 to be exact) and would have a matching ineratronic doctor to interact with guest. But what is a ineratronic you may ask well it is a next-gen audioanamatronic. The eyes are replaced with cameras, its speaking system is controlled by a computer, and the ears with recorders . The eyes would send visuals to a computer so that it could choose specific things for the doctor to speak. This would be sent back to the doctor via computer to the speaking systems and would play a recording of the specific doctors voice asking the question; a similar process for responses would occur except the ears would send information to the computer for the doctors response. Next the Doctor would have a recording of dialogue for the show that guest would be shown. Exch show would be specific to your doctor. The new technology's do not stop with doctors as the ride vehicle itself is amazing.

The ride vehicle is inside a large tube like structure with three other ships, the vehicle is covered and has side windows for vortex imaging. the seating is like that of the Star Tours, but it can move upside down, extend, and move vertically up and down. I wish I could find a link to the company that makes this system, but I will keep looking.

Vortex Manipulator (image belongs to youtuber Hethethethscorchio)

This ride is aimed for kids and is a Doctor Who twist on the tea cups. The guest will get on their own Tardis in an area like the WDW teacups canopy(with Vortex images surrounding the entire roof and walls. The Tardis’ will spin around for 3 minutes.

The Doctor Who Experience

I few months ago I saw that there was a Doctor Who play that is England, idealy this play would be moved here, so American fans may experience the show. The show centers around a friend of the Doctor teaching us about space and time when the doctors enemy the Dalek’s come and take over until the Doctor saves the day. I can’t find a video for it although I wish I could.

So that does it for my entry! I hope you enjoyed, thanks!

Agreed to an extent. From my design experience, you can get away with a quick down and dirty rendering to get an idea a cross...but it better be a beautiful, down and dirty rendering. It should look like it came from the hand of someone who has the ability to do great work, but is only at the conceptual stage in their thought process. At that stage to whomever you are presenting, the idea IS the visual. An ugly rendering in order get approval to advance a concept will get you nowhere.

This is obviously an internal rendering, but if someone has to sign off and approve on the idea to keep moving it forward, then they might not be so moved to do so by a cartoonish visual.

True, while I don't mind the fantasyland ones too much but the leaked Brazil Pavillion rendering is pretty poor IMO.

Admitting that the EPCOT Center will no longer live up to its original mission is still an admission of thematic inappropriateness. That is a very pragmatic response, but still not an argument from theme.
