But at least in that case you LOOK like an a**hole.

What does check in time have to do with it?

You know "gypped" is a horribly racist term, right?

Actually no I hadn't. That's the first time I've heard that it was. I mean it was the title of a Carol Higgins Clark book (with no uproar that I remember) meaning cheated. I'll edit the post, no big deal.

But I figured check in time would be usually when the mug was activated for use.

This is all very confusing, but as someone who has never EVER bought a refillable mug, I really don't know what to think of this. So I'll continue about my day...

Oh, please don't. It's a perfectly legitimate word and is connected with days gone by when certain groups were known for their ability to cheat others out of their money and possessions (factual). Give into REAL political injustices but not to this one. Today people know it as a word that means cheated, and not even partially thought about in relation to it's origin. Although I suppose that someone could come up with an argument that "cheated" is a slur on the fine name of Cheetahs everywhere.o_O

But how is that different/worse than now? You can't fill up a soda mug that you haven't physically gotten from the resort yet.

Well sure, but what I originally meant is say you're checking in at 10pm, you get your mug and all. So you've only got 2 hours of that day to use the mug before a new use day starts. As opposed from let's say 10pm Tues- 10pm Wed. being 1 full day of use. Basically its like a wasted day of activation for 'length of stay' under this rule. Which means that Disney gets to charge for a full day's use but only really allows the user 2 hours in this scenario. It really should be 24 hrs not rigidly 12am - 11:59pm. That was the point I was originally making. This eventually will add up to a big profit between late check in and checkouts before 11pm. They've charged the guest for what will equal a day or more and will really have the guest using it for less uses.

That was always a pilot test. Not much to be read into them being taken out and coming back later.

What is more to be read into is the people supposedly in know calling the test a complete failure/flop.. and then to see it come back quickly like this.

I thought it was a flop, but was surprised. It seemed like a good idea (although I don't want to wait five minutes or whatever between fills), and I expected it to spread to the other resorts within a few weeks after the Sports test. The delay confuses me. I know it's a big company and blah blah, so I guess that?

I have also observed some of the "fallout" on social media. My wife follows a bunch of random, no-name Disney bloggers on Facebook and our Roku uses her account as our screensaver: "Exciting news about Disney's new refillable mug, Rapid Fill!", says one. What exactly is exciting about it?

But that only applies to the one, two, or three day plans. You probably wouldn't purchase a mug at all if you're only staying for one night and arriving at 10:00 PM. If you get the "length of stay" option, it maxes out at $17.99 anyways so nobody is paying extra for extra days.

If you think of the mug as a $5 souvenir, it's still only $3 a day for unlimited soda. Still seems like a good deal, even if all you get is coffee in the morning and one soda a day.

But it's one price for "length of stay" so if you buy that, it doesn't matter if your first or last day is abbreviated.

The issue would come in if you are only buying a few days (1-3 days) of use, as opposed to "length of stay". In which case, it probably just would make sense to buy it on the morning of your first full day.
