"Rapid Fill" Mugs Coming to Walt Disney World Hotels

Then, we won't buy the mug. Whoop dee do. While I like the mug, I absolutely refuse to buy one every time we go. No big loss for us if we use the stupid paper cups. We receive the discount on the room, yes. But we spend more on those "discounted rooms" in one year than those who visit once a year or once every other year.

There's a reason people are not buying into the AP's anymore.

yet profit is up....however to act like APs walk on gods own clouds....i used to live in daytona and was not an AP.

This is the same system they use on Royal Caribbean i paid $35 on a 7 night cruise for a mug, but that was the childs price the adult price was a little more.
You could use them as much as you like on the cruise ship so as someone said unless Disney's are different they is nothing stopping you filling your mug and pouring it into another cup then refilling again.

I want to know this too. Plastic mug aside, it also mentions a "nonrefillable PAPER cup." Are they seriously putting RFID chips on paper cups now too?? No wonder they are raising the price.

It is a small round or square white sticker with a passive RFID under it. This is supposed to be placed under the cup.

To be fair, there's nothing complicated about this new change. You buy a refillable mug, you pay for a certain number of days it is active. The RFID does the work of enforcing the time frame. It's straight forward.

Now, if you want to complain about Disney doing things to make things more expensive for guests (or to prevent ways for guests to buck the system to their benefit) then this is certainly a valid target.

I'm saying the entire idea of having an RFID chip on a refillable mug just seems to be overstepping so much into this Disney big brother idea.

Things used to be so much simpler.

The system knows how many ounces it dispenses. They can limit how many times, and/or how many ounces to dispense in a time window. Disney did implement it during the earlier test

It's possible that the paper cups could be filled behind the counter only, so guests don't use the drink station themselves with them. (i.e. only the mugs with RFID work on the guest accessible stations).

Just randomly found this lol

Umm...that's clearly called stealing! Any company could prosecute individuals for such activity if they desired. Might be a little more subjective if using a company provided cup but not this!
Geez!!

But it's one price for "length of stay" so if you buy that, it doesn't matter if your first or last day is abbreviated.

The issue would come in if you are only buying a few days (1-3 days) of use, as opposed to "length of stay". In which case, it probably just would make sense to buy it on the morning of your first full day.

Just as most people who are purchasing park tickets by the day (rather than length of stay or an AP) wouldn't "waste" a day by going to a park their first day if they arrive later in the day. Or going to a park on their last day unless they have an evening departure.

What stops someone from buying two mugs, one they purchase unlimited refills for their stay and one they don't purchase the unlimited option and then try to fake out the machine by scanning the one they paid for but filling up the other?

I don't like the idea of paying more for my mug, but, people have been abusing the refillable mug program for years. Something had to be done.

On a side note my buddy who is an exec at Pepsi says that a large cola costs about 12 cents for the seller.

Well, if they wanted to have something be "simple", the easy answer would be to just not have any refills. Buy a cup, get a drink, you're done. Want a refill, go and buy a new drink.

But people like the idea of refills and feel it has value, so Disney offers it. Given that they are selling the idea of unlimited refills, I think this system makes sense because it will cut down on people abusing the system. I don't really see it as complicated, you buy the mug and you can only use it for the period it is active for. If it wasn't a tech solution, but something printed on the mug that was checked by a person at the refill machine, would that be better because it would be less "Big Brother"?

I'm not arguing this is particularly "good" for guests or anything, since it obviously hurts a number of people (the ones gaming the system by reusing mugs). Though some of the changes are better -- the ability to purchase fewer days for cheaper, the ability to use it (legally) at any resort.

I see that they are working on a system where you can use them in the water parks as well. I'd like to see them have some sort of add on feature that you could use them in the theme parks -- I might actually consider buying one then.

Why? Are you really going to drink an entire mug in less than five minutes?

Have you been at disney when it's to and you're dehydrated? Or very hungry? The current mugs don't even hold a cans worth of soda. Or iced tea, water, coffee, etc. then add ice. It's not hard to gulp down an entire mug while still standing in front of the machine. I've done it.
