"Rapid Fill" Mugs Coming to Walt Disney World Hotels

So the cost is $17.99 for a 4-14 day stay but if you plan a longer stay guests can extend the mug beyond the length of stay option. How much more will that cost? $9-$12-$15?
I assume for a 16 night stay it would be $17.99 + $11.99 = $29.28 per mug.

Why in the world would ANYBODY stick a soda in a microwave?

Why do they even tell you not to do this?

Is there really somebody so stupid as to microwave soda in a plastic mug?

The way I read it, a "length of stay" purchase just defaults for 14 days no matter how long you are staying at the resort, but if you are staying longer than 14 days, you can get it set to your total time there (hopefully at no extra charge). But I could be totally wrong.

Perhaps, coffee, tea or water to heat up. I don't know for sure the options as I only use cold drinks.

<sarcasm>I'm glad TDO is doubling their efforts to make everything as simple for its guests as possible</sarcasm>

To be fair, there's nothing complicated about this new change. You buy a refillable mug, you pay for a certain number of days it is active. The RFID does the work of enforcing the time frame. It's straight forward.

Now, if you want to complain about Disney doing things to make things more expensive for guests (or to prevent ways for guests to buck the system to their benefit) then this is certainly a valid target.

So they put in the machines at All-Star Sports, take them out, and now like a year later everybody is getting them? Makes perfect sense.

That was always a pilot test. Not much to be read into them being taken out and coming back later.

What is more to be read into is the people supposedly in know calling the test a complete failure/flop.. and then to see it come back quickly like this.

Here's what's gonna happen. Those people that didn't care to follow the rules prior will now just buy one mug each trip and use it as a transfer device to a different container. I can already envision soccer mom filling her mug over and over and pouring it into her kids paper cups. It's going to be a grey area. Because technically I could fill my one mug and share that with my kids until its empty then go get a refill, so why not just pour each child their own?

And that is why the system has the ability to limit back to back refills... as was seen during the test too. They try to throttle how much you can dispense in a time period.

What is the plan for those guests who purchased the original mugs, that were FREE REFILLS for life?
Why don't you think that Disney can change their mind about something that wasn't well thought out anyway. I had never seen where it was ever offered "for life", but since I don't stay on site, it is possible. What isn't possible is for people to get upset because what they probably paid only $10.00 for 10 years ago is no longer valid. Times and rules change. Where not talking thousands of dollars per individual here.

If it was offered I don't think I ever would have brought it back with me. The one time I did purchase one (the only time I stayed on-site) I found that I didn't use it all that often, only at meal time. I refuse to lug it around the parks all day so I wouldn't have used it on the way out. The room I had was about a gazillion miles from the fountain and after a long day at the parks the last thing I wanted to do was walk another mile to get a damn drink. I bought some drinks offsite and used the fridge to keep it cool. I also, as a matter of personal principle, would not haul a cup from home just so I didn't have to spend another $14.00 for a new mug. Just seems petty to me.

Didn't I read recently that Disney had backed off some of the benefits that had been extended to DVC people and AP folks, that amounted to a lot more then the few buck it cost for a mug. Why does anything think that, if the life time deal, did exist Disney would have a problem with saying "Not anymore"?

The mug did become a pain for us. We use to purchase the mugs and carried in a back pack. That became more trouble than it was worth. I remember the last one we purchased was at BW. Such a waste as the refill station was no where close. We received a "free" mug this year being on the Dining plan. We rarely used it.

AS for "lifetime refill" I guess that depends on the wording of the agreement. It could be grandfather in if Disney didn't say they had the right to change the terms.

I would like to see a copy of the signed agreement that came with that promise. It is not binding nor is it worth getting ones knickers in a knot over. It's chump change in the overall cost of a Disney Vacation.;)

But at least in that case you LOOK like an a**hole.

I've never felt the need to buy one of these mugs for various reasons. I don't drink enough soda to justify it and carrying it around seems like a complete pain. Not to mention that you'd probably want to do a real washing between each use instead of a quick rinse.

I do however think that they're pushing it on price and on the idea that the mug is only from 12:00 A.M.-11:59 P.M., not 24hrs (5-5, 12-12, etc.). Bascially if someone checks in later or whatnot they've been gipped quite a number of hours on that day. I'm thinking that's really where the profits start to add up.
What does check in time have to do with it?

You know "gypped" is a horribly racist term, right?

My first mug was in 1995 and I don't remember seeing the contract. Knowing Disney it would have been a 5 page document. I wonder if was printed on the mug. I don't recall if I brought the mug back in 2000 for our second Dixie Landing Stay. I know in 2002 I bought a AKL mug.

If you have a mug with the words "unlimited refills for life" printed on it, I think we'd all love to see that.
