Oct 1st - special surprises at MK?

Well, I can confirm via a memo circulating the MK entertainment department that the "character flood" will be happening Oct.1. No mention of buttons, cupcakes, announcements, or anything of that nature. Just characters and mini-celebration at the castle hub. Apparently, there are no plans for special meet and greets or special character interaction beyond Oct. 1.

This sounds like what DL did for their 56th. From MousePlanet,

56 years ago Disneyland opened to the public, and the Resort celebrated the milestone yesterday afternoon with a low key "celebratory moment." Thousands of park visitors gathered around Town Square as dozens of Disney characters, including several rarely seen in the parks, made a grand appearance on Main Street. Walt Disney's opening day dedication speech played on speakers throughout the park, and an announcer invited the Main Street audience to join the characters in singing "Happy Birthday" to Disneyland. The characters approached the crowd and each handed a Disneyland balloon to a delighted child, then returned backstage. MousePlanet reader Stephanie Masters Mattison posted on our Facebook wall, saying, "I got teary during the speech. I'm so glad we were there."

The extra characters will be nice and all, but seriously? For the 40th we get the same thing they got for their 56th?

Honestly...what has Disney done that's so bad?

I honestly don't think it's the parks that are to blame, it's the internet. We all can get info and links so quickly now that it's almost impossible for Disney to keep up.

Parts of attractions have always been faulty. Who knows how long things went untouched back in 1971. There could've been Small World dolls that were left motionless for years but nobody would know cause they weren't there documenting it on a day to day basis. And it wasn't instantly zapped in front of people's faces every single second of every single day.

(Moving away from the internet topic but I'll get back to it in a minute.)

We're also living in a pretty difficult economy and Disney has felt some of that. And if you've ever played Roller Coaster Tycoon then you know, if your park is losing money how do you make it up? Raise your gate prices and your food prices. Once you're back where you need to be you can lower the prices again and people think it's great so they buy more...

New attractions coming every year to every park? Keep dreaming. Once again, our economy sucks.

As far as show and entertainment cutbacks. You see them everyday in other theme parks, I live near Carowinds and they cut back to only running their kids show twice a day and only having their ice show run through the summer. Not far from me either in Dollywood you're seeing the same thing. It's just the economy showing its face again. You'll just have to wait for finanical problems to be fixed. I'm pretty sure that in your life you're cutting back on how many movies you go out and see and how many DVDs you're buying...just saying.

And my final point. Princesses, Pixar, Stitch, and Disney Channel. They're here to stay. People know and love them. Disney is one of those, "Once in a lifetime," destinations for most people. We on here can't seem to grasp that most of the time. But those are things you just have to get used to.

(Back to our originally scheduled internet topic/point/whatever)

All these aforementioned things are also made worse because we can once again complain and constantly see them in real time. Disney has no break to introduce new things, most of us on here know about new attractions when they're still in planning stages.

Don't bag on the company for how it's ran. Disney is so vast they they're trying to please the entire family. Disney Channel for the tweens, Princesses for little girls, Cars for little boys, and still trying to maintain all the classics that each generation has grew up with. It's a lot to try and squeeze into one place.

It's not Disney who's to blame, it's the constant blah, blah, blah that we're all guilty of. It won't stop but just sit back and think of this the next time you begin to write something, "You can't please everyone."

Best post of the day. I applaud you. :)

I've found that you have to limit your trips to this site if you feel you are getting a bit negative about Disney. Many people here complain way too much. There's less and less "magic" every day and more and more verbal fighting every day. Too bad:cry:

There is an insatiable sense of entitlement amongst fanboys for Disney. This stems largely from a combination of our collective enjoyment of their previous successes, and a growing impatience amongst the population in general.

I was disappointed that there were no announcements for WDW at the D23 Expo - if there are indeed green lit plans that were ready to go at the Expo (Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom) it does seem somewhat confusing that they weren't mentioned.

Having said that - the Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom announcement probably would have been met with the same "That's It" response that seems to permeate these types of message boards.

Short of a major expansion or an E-Ticket announcement, that would have been the inevitable response. I would respond to this by saying that any major expansion or E-Ticket announcement wouldn't open until 2014 at the earliest.

Consider that the Fantasyland expansion will be opening in phases between 2012 and 2013 and will include D-Tickets, I don't think it's realistic to expect anything substantial until the 2015-2016 range. At that point, I would guess that a few clones of attractions heading to Shanghai (Soarin' Over the World?) would start cropping up around WDW. I would also speculate that Disney is gauging the success level of Carsland at DCA - if that proves to be successful, I will assume it will be fast tracked for DHS and open towards the middle to the end of the decade.

Back to the 40th Anniversary, as I said earlier - I would expect cupcakes, characters and park maps.

Jim Hill actually has an article in that similar regard today...was an interesting read.

No one has been defending the current administration, but they're also not going to your hyperbolic extremes.

And no amusement park can act as a form of catharsis, regardless of the name above the gate.
Just going to keep a running tally of how many posts you use the word prattle and/or hyperbole.

Just sayin'

God does it really matter? Did you really have to post that?

He makes a good point (well, at least the first sentence,): things are not as they once were or as they should be. The quality of Disney has slipped in places, some more than others. But this guy (the a'int doing nothing guy) is taking it to the extreme. Not to mention is grammar and spelling are horrific. So wm49rs' posts are refreshing to someone who doesn't wish to see simple drivel or chat speak.

But, back to the topic at hand of course. Highly doubtful we'll see any attraction announcements, but if I wasn't currently in college and poor, I'd love to be there. *sigh. Maybe for the 50th.

I like cupcakes and rare characters and commemorative park maps, but not enough to make a special trip and pay park admission for the opportunity.

Well, actually, I probably would make an effort to be there on October 1 if time and resources allowed. That's the reason I keep renewing my D23 membership - one of these days, to make a dedicated event.

Point of inquiry.....

When has Disney ever made an attraction announcement at an park anniversary event? I have been pretty much neck deep in Disney for nearly a decade and I can not think of a single time that they have ever made a surprise attraction announcement during the events that take place on a parks anniversary. Mostly is is just rah-rah Disney/Disney fans type speeches. Why should we expect anything different from that this year?

Was the Expedition Everest announcement made at the 5th anniversary of DAK?

Bacl to the OP.....

There will be a few surprises on Oct 1st. The day will be remembered.

Any clues as to time of day or location in the park?

Yes! Martin will be bringing cookies!:slurp:

Seriously folks...do not expect attraction announcements.

If they shocked the world and did announce something...find me in the crowd. I'll give you a dollar.
