Nibblesandbits Amazingly Wonderful Trip Report (Number 6) Dec. 10 - 14

(I'm up to TR #6 already?!)

It seems like this year, I just couldn't get enough Disney. :lol:

I am back from my current trip, which was from December 10-14.

Now, this trip was quite different from any other the others I've really ever taken. First of all, the major difference was that my DH didn't travel with me on this adventure. So, no What's His Face for you this time. :lol: This time, I went on the trip with my mom. So, it was just us gals doing it up Disney-style. My mom hadn't been to the Magic Kingdom in 5 years, hadn't been to Epcot or the Studios in 8 years and hadn't been to AK ever. So it was really exciting to get to bring her along this trip, especially since this was the first trip she'd gone on with me, since I'd become the big Disney nut I have. Also, new this trip was it was my first time staying at a Moderate Resort, up from always Values.

The second thing that was different was I was going down for the annual event known as Mousefest. I am the co-host of a podcast (cheap plug, Be Our Guest Podcast), and all of us co-hosts, save one of us who couldn't make it down, were all going down to enjoy the festivities and celebrate our first ever Mousefest. So, a quick warning, a good portion of this trip report is going to relate back to Mousefest or the podcast because of that.

Nice report. I like how you several times commented on the fact that you "thought" your mom liked something. That's exactly how I feel when I'm with my dad. I'm kind of guessing.

Well, we talked about it a little bit. Like, I'd ask her...so it wasn't completely arbitrary. :lol:

Thank you. And trust me...me too. Whatever bug is going around down there, is not fun. But, it does seem to be over quickly...so that's good.

Were you part of a big group photo in Germany/lagoon side? A photopass photographer took a photo of a large group with her camera and a bunch of your cameras.

That guy brought the ear muffs specifically b/c he was alone at Mousefest and wanted people to talk to him...it was a conversation piece. He said they sold them at the parks years ago and I think he said his sister bought them for him when they were on clearance. He said since then he's had someone offer him $50 to just borrow them and $100 to purchase them, but he's not selling.

Thread Hijack: Mousefest taught me a lot this year.
Disboards seems to be the biggest fan website but podcasts are taking over.
As massive as the fan numbers are, they pale in comparison to how many Brazilians show up.
And while Mousefest was visible during the meet, they really comprise an extremely small sample of the population.
And on a side note, it turns out that going to Guest Relations to thank a cast member isn't as helpful as going to guest relations and asking for a GSF (great service fanatic) card to fill out.

Derive from this scientific observation what you will.

Thank you! I loved being able to take some great pics this time. I see all the other amazing ones and I was just so happy to get the opportunity to bring my really great camera with me this time again.

And yes...sickness...no fun. I'm glad it was at the end too, but I think I would have prefered if it had been as I'd gotten home and not while I was attempting to get home. That part was very hard to deal with.

Yep...been doing the podcast for about 9 months now. It's been a ton of fun, a total blast. You're more than welcome to check us out. Or, be on too...as a good portion of our show is about Trip Reports...and your recent trip would make for a great show. Let me know if you're interested! (That goes for anyone who's been down.) As Pam, my co-host said all during Mousefest, we're kind of like the Seinfeld of podcasts...we find the most random stuff sometimes and that will be a show! :lol:

Mousefest really is a blast though. I'd been wanting to go for years...but this podcast really made me take the leap, as so many of our listeners were going down. It really is like meeting up with old friends down there. Because you know that these people you're meeting all have the love of Disney in common, something that so many others don't get. It's a wonderful idea and a great gathering.

I learned that Disboards does have a huge following. (I heard they rented out TSMM for a night just for some of their posters.) But yes, podcasts are quickly becoming the reason for going down there. It was set up as a way to meet up with friends you'd met online, but it's quickly turning into a way to see your favorite "Disney Celebrity".

I will agree that Mousefesters are a small portion of the population of guests at Disney. For anyone who worries that Mousefest causes crowds to spike, I can guarantee it doesn't really. This year, it was around 1000 people, which sounds like a lot, but really it isn't. There were actually a few days when I saw very few yellow lanyards, signifying people who'd registered for Mousefeset.

And I will keep in mind the info about the great service fanatic card...where do you get that? Guest Relations? And is it new? I'd never heard of it. I had a few great CMs this trip...one of whom my mom went to Guest Relations for...I wonder what she did.
