New Walt Disney World Magazine

I did not realize that Lou was involved, I have already subscribed.

Glad I started the thread and got some more people to look.

80 pages! That's great for beginning issues. I hope everyone will subscribe.

Johnny

That's part of the reason why I bumped the thread back up. I really wish they would make this a sticky so as to make as many people as possible aware. The more people who subscribe, then the more chance this magazine has of succeeding and keeping us all in our Disney fix every two months. :D

But I would like an answer to the question I asked.

But I would like an answer to the question I asked.
According to Wiki "In 2005 publication ceased abruptly, with subscribers able to change their subscriptions to either FamilyFun or Disney Adventures, or taking a refund. The Magazine's website says that the end was due to an increase of people choosing to find information on the Internet, and thus lack of readership."

That said, I subscribed =D

I subscribed, too, although I'm not exactly filled with confidence that this magazine will thrive. If the previous one died because of the internet replacing an actual magazine to hold in your hand, then I'm not sure how we can expect this one to do any better three years later.

This sounds great, I've just signed up too!

I can't believe that it's been 3 years since the Disney Magazine ended :( - but now I have something new to look forward to....I'm sooo excited already :sohappy:

I just hope it doesn't take too long to ship it over!!!!

I subscribed today also!!!! Those guys should give Steve a bit of the action from the wdwmagic folks.

In a previous post there was concern about this new publication might go the way of "Disney News" due to the internet and other reasons. Was "Disney News" published by Disney? This is an independent venture. Who knows maybe they have more of a flexibility in selecting advertiser that Disney did not. After all it is the advertisers that pay the bills.

I'm psyched!! I'm going to order it, too!! Great find!! I was a long time subscriber to The Disney Magazine. It was awesome and I always referred to it. I actually saved every issue and now have them in my classroom. I see my students reading them frequently. The magazine was a great fix in between trips and to stay current. I can't wait to start receiving it.

I am now a subscriber to The Orlando Attractions magazine and like it. It just is such a short read. I finish it in one sitting. Those will also be in my classroom come September.:)

That's exactly what I was thinking. They probably have more flexibility in what they can write as well.

I just subscribed. Now if this one gets cancelled on my like the other Disney Magazine did, I'm not gonna be a happy camper.

Anyone know why it got cancelled? Is there just not enough to report on regarding WDW to fill a magazine every couple months? Because the internet age is pushing ink and paper out of business? If either of these is the reason for the demise of the previous magazine, why should we expect this one to fare any better?

It's a long and passionate thread, so enjoy:

BTW - Although the original post says the last issue would be Spring 2005, it was really Summer 2005.

If anyone is interested, I emailed the magazine and asked when in September to expect it, and I also expressed my concern over the viability of the magazine, given that the old "Disney Magazine" went under because of the internet. Here is the reply I received:

Hi Steve!
The first issue is set to go to press in the beginning of September and be mailed out towards the latter half of the month (as you can imagine, we have a lot of work to do to get to the finish line!).
As far as the viability of the magazine, well, time will tell. If internet publishing did indeed offer a viable alternative to print that would certainly make our lives much easier! (and indeed that day will come...and we are poised for that eventuality). But there is still a great preference for flopping down on the couch with your favorite magazine and just browsing through (kind of hard to do with a computer, even with a laptop!).
Celebrations won't just be about facts and figures (which you can certainly find on the internet), but will be a celebration of the magic of Walt Disney World (hence the title). There will be plenty of content inside not readily available on the internet: regular columns by community celebs, interviews, beautiful photos, scavenger hunts and other diversions, etc.
The interest that has been expressed in the magazine thus far has been absolutely phenomenal, to me that's a pretty good indicator that we are on to something wonderful. And with the tremendous cast of contributors we have, I am confident that the magazine will more than live up to everyone's expectations (it's certainly been a lot of fun to put together thus far!). Will we migrate to the internet one day? Perhaps! And we do have plans to make the companion website just as magical (though by no means a replacement for the magazine, more of an added bit of extra magic). :-)

I hope that answered your question, thanks for writing!

Is Orlando Attractions any good? It looked very light on info for me.

The only Disney magazine I subscribe to is Tales from the Laughing Place - but it is very much an international publication (they cover Tokyo, Hong Kong and Paris a lot) and is very much centered on the creation of the attractions. But they have amazing access (the last two issues had massive interviews with Marty Sklar about the creation of Epcot and Joe Rohde about DAK) and artwork that I've never seen anywhere else.

Used to get E-Ticket before it shuttered too.

Count me as someone that doesn't miss The Disney Magazine - it was far too fluffy for its own good in the end.

From looking at the people involved with this magazine, I subscribed. I am willing to bet it is going to be a lot of fun to read and something to look forward to.

Thanks for the link; it looks amazing! And I agree the Disney Magazine was pretty fluffy. I wish all the Disney fans could combine their publications into ONE SUPERMAGAZINE!

I hope its a better book than Tales from the laughing place that book is hard to read and not fun, they try to be to (artsy) with the photos.

I guess it is all a matter of opinion. I think Tales is trying to show a different side of Disney. We all have our own Photo Spot photos and can see WDW publicity shots anywhere - I like seeing different angles that make me see things differently.

Personally it is the level of detail in the interviews and the never-before-seen artwork that makes it more than worthwhile. Both the Epcot and DAK issues had artwork that I had never seen before and the interviews were very revealing.

I haven't found it hard to read - there is a lot of text but that is down to the level of detail they probe into.
