I've made it my mission in life to crush this story. Not true. It was never, ever the intention that the room would come out once they were welded in place.

The following is an except from a "WDW Myths" article that appeared in Eyes & Ears, the WDW cast newspaper, in five installments during the first half of 1997.

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!

I worked Club Level at Contemp for 2 years and had to answer this question often.

The only real problem with the Contemp is the piping and drainage. It leaks. A LOT. I used to call it the wet sponge, step on it wrong and water squirts out. If it helps any on the rumor, I was there for the rehab of the 12th floor where they removed the walls of 2 of the units and re-poured the concrete floor for the new Atrium Club lounge. There are no problems with sinking, and no problems with settling. There were lots of structural tests done in that area because a large steel crossbeam had to be removed in order to accommodate the new lounge. It was between the former rooms 4840 and 4841. There are steel tension cables between former 4841 and 4842 that are now hidden behind decorative wood slats, that also happen to be at the same angle of the resort frame. People think it was just a design element of the new lounge, but trust me, they are functional as well as aesthetic.

On a funny side note, we all abbreviate it to BLT, we were discussing BLT at the Rose N Crown , when an older gentlemen next to us must have heard us, he asked the bartender if they had a Bacon lettuce & tomato sandwich that everyone is talking about. We had quite a laugh. :ROFLOL: The bartender Carl, told him what BLT meant, the old gent had quite a laugh also.

Carl, (the bartender at the RnC) is great! He's been at the RnC for like 20+ years.

Next time you see him, ask him to show you one of his many pub tricks/puzzles.

Also, ask to see the pic of him alligator wrestling, fun stuff.

Then maybe you should start your own forum. I, for one, am getting sick of your condescending manor as well as you opinions.

I wasn't aware that I had to be a popular kid to play on this playground.
Is it limited to Kool-Aid drinkers on pixie dust highs only?

Oh, and please don't make disparaging remarks about my home as it is not condescending. Most people find it very welcoming and warm. Of course we just call it a home, not a manor too.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion...as are the rest of us on this board. Name calling is not needed.

Well, you're contradicting yourself. Am I entitled to an opinion or aren't I? And do you have to agree or approve it? Hell, if nine out of 10 people don't like what I have to say is it going to be off with my head?

As to name calling I have no idea what you're talking about as I haven't called anyone a name ... believe me, if I had you'd likely be the first to know as your 'tude is a real downer, dude.:drevil:

People respect sites (or not) based upon the reliability of the information presented.

It is why Al Lutz is required reading in Anaheim, Burbank and Glendale.

OK, it took me awhile but now I get it. You are an Al Lutz acolyte. Are you one of the ones who ended up getting a miceage tatoo?

Not amusing. I am no 'Lutz acolyte'.

I am someone who knows the man has an amazing set of 'sources' deep within Disney and who breaks stories on Disneyland that real reporters can't/won't.

The fact he is required reading in high places should be sufficient to explain the level he is held in in the exec suites.

And even though I'm sure this will get attacked, I was personally approached by a WDW VP in 2003 for suggestions on how to 'neutralize' Al.

If one of them is sinking or will sink that would make the foot bridge between BLT and CR a real treat here in a few years..

Really? I thought it opened with the rest of WDW!
It was structurally complete, but during September - November 1972 it still had tower cranes above it - neatly folded down on the bay lake side during the day. Forget what you saw on TV - the Contemp officially opened January 30th 1972. The Poly was to all intents and purposes fully ready for guests by September 20th 1971.

Well this is turning out to be a lot of fun.

Personally I would be very surprised if the building came down. It's a very popular resort and I think the rebuild costs along with the loss of revenue for the years it would take to build would far outweigh the cost of underpinning (or whatever it may be).

For WDW1974, I don't disagree with your sources or information but the tone is a little rough. All of these little urban myths help to create an air of magic around WDW. Granted that 'the contemporary coming down' isn't a very good rumor but a rumor which people will like non the less.

It's not.

It's my opinion.

People respect sites (or not) based upon the reliability of the information presented.
It is a rumor and so by definition not reliable. Is it a silly one? Yes. Is it a funny and entertaining one for some? Yes again.
It is why Al Lutz is required reading in Anaheim, Burbank and Glendale.

That has become readily apparent!
Well, predictable posts get boring after a while.

I had a sinking feeling that this thread would end up like this.

I had the same feeling also when I posted the rumor, it's amazing I posted what a CM said (never mentioned if I beleived it or not, hell it's a rumor now some experts are attacking CMs) then sat back and waited for all the so called experts to chime in, Yu have to say that it has been very entertaining. I laugh at the efforts some of the so called experts go to to ram there opinions down your throat (or try to make you beleive that they are right) its a riot, never did I think this thread would go 5 pages........ Well EXPERTS, take it easy its just a rumor, it was heard by me and my wife I posted it (never said it would happen, it is feasible, you can remodel buildings forever but just like humans you have a facelift and the bones will eventually fail, everything has a life span, take this thread for instance.....)

OH NO NOW I'M STARTING TO SOUND LIKE ONE OF THE EXPERTS:hammer:THE EXPERTS NEED TO TAKE A CHILL PILL:shrug:

Dont over analyze it, its just a rumor.

Im off to take a chill pill myself, heading to downtown Disney today, everyone have a Magical Day :sohappy:

The problem is that if we posted every "rumor" that we heard from CM's this forum would be completely useless. CM's are the last people you go to to get information from.

This is just an aside to WDW1974. I like what you bring to the table, I enjoy your insights, but please tone down the attitude a little bit. I'd like to see you stay around. I'm afraid that if you continue down this path you'll wind up hidden in the same underground bunker that merf was sent to.

So you should suggest a New Rule never post what CMs say!!!!!!:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL: A chill pill is in order:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:Its a rumor no matter who I heard it from, I didnt know I shouldnt have posted cause it came from a CM, I apoligize. I will now go back to my training on how to post on the forums, please check out my training pictures....

Listen, I'm not attacking you. I want you to be a valued member here. Its just that most people go to Disney and hear some outlandish rumor from a CM such as "The rooms were meant to be removed from the Contemporary, or the holes in the swan and dolphin were for monorail lines, or the turrets come off the castle in case of hurricanes" and then come here all excited to spread the new rumor.

Most CMs are clueless when it comes to actual news and so they spread these myths. They don't do it on purpose, but they hear it from someone who's been their longer than them and they take it as gospel, they're then excited to tell other CMs who come in or guests this information and things get way out of control.

You did tell us that it came from a CM though so you did your part. My post is for all these people in this thread who are immediately believing what you've posted because it came from a CM. CM's are not credible, 99% of them have no real sources, and know less than we do on here because they don't take the time to research these supposed rumors like we fanatics do. I'm just trying to stop the spreading of this rumor before it takes off like wildfire across the interwebs.

Welcome to WDWMagic though. Take some time, get to know everyone here. We're actually a fairly friendly bunch for the most part. We're all just a bit rabid about what we love and we all handle that rabidness in different ways.

Thanks Spence! I believe you can confirm that the GF is sinking, as we saw near the elevators with the rather LARGE crack in the wall. I guess that's what happens when you build on a man-made piece of land on a man-made lake...

Ive been on this forum for some time I usually dont post cause someone always has a forced opinion, like you are doing to me, If I want to beleive it or not I will. Your forcing your opinion that CM rumors should not be posted, HEY thats your opinion, I really honestly feel that if it bothers you that much you should SUGGEST A RULE NOT TO POST CM RUMORS. I posted a rumor in the rumor section, it's a rumor take it or leave it as I have posted previously, rumors are up for discussion. As for the friendlyness I'm not feelin it.

As for a valued member I am one already I passed information that I was told while here In Disney.

As for the people you fear will immediatly beleive the post? Guess what,? Thats there opinion and there right.

If you don't want rumors to spread another Suggestion you might try is SUGGEST THAT THEY REMOVE THE RUMOR THREAD, maybe now you see why I choose not to post often, THE EXPERTS DRIVE ME NUTS!:hammer::hammer::hammer:

Its a rumor that you can beleive or not, just don't tell me or others what to beleive or not.
You don't come off "friendly that way at all"

Actually you are a bit intimidating "In my opinion"

I will think twice or 3 times about posting in the future. I was unaware that rumors had rules.......

I mean that in all due respect. I didnt post to aggravate people, I for one thought it could be a feasable plan with The Contemporary in the future as all things have a lifespan, sometimes its cheaper to start fresh and rebuild from the ground up. Thats how I interpeted the rumor. (Being a Plumber on big jobs such as the scope of The Contemporary, leads me to my opinion)

You heard it came from a CM so it has no value whatsoever in your opinion, which last I knew you were entitled to. As I am entitled to my opinion.

Perhaps it would be best in your eyes if we lock or remove this thread alltogether?

I'm sorry my rumor has bothered you so much. I'm feeling a bit sorry I posted it.

Again I mean no disrespect whatsoever. I passed on information and my opinion or feasability of a rumor I and my wife heard, I never asked anyone to belive it.

Have A Magical Day!
