New Rumor

You must be right cause I'm pretty sure I talked to a clueless CM I have trouble telling the ones with a clue and the clueless ones apart...........

I know I said I'd made my last comment but I just want to clear this up. I'm sorry if you felt I attacked you personally. That wasn't my intention and I never meant to attack you. If I came across that way, my most humble of apologies. I thought that I clearly stated that you did your part to not put too much credit to this by telling us straightforward that you heard it from a CM.

My problem was that there have been 9 pages of people now taking this as word of God fact and running with it. That's how these urban myths get started. I'm sure your CM friend is a great guy and a good CM. Its just that CMs have no credibility when it comes to rumors. They don't have inside information unless they just happen to be good friends with someone who is on the inside (and with the way the company is setup that's very unlikely). CM's are known for passing awfully insane rumors, unfortunately people who visit the parks take them as the gospel because they came from an employee who must obviously know.

The red flag for me (and for everyone else who's thrown one on this) wasn't that it came from a CM however. It's that their basis for fact behind this is that the rooms are now locked into place due to the sinking and must be torn down. We've already shown through Disney manuscripts themselves that the rooms are not supposed to come out, so that crucial piece of the rumor makes this fall apart.

Again, I wasn't meaning to attack you for posting this. I was attempting to point out the problems with the rumor and why it can't be true. If you felt attacked or offended I apologize.

And that is my final word on this topic.

Reminds me of the popular Cedar Point myth that Magnum is sinking. Do you guys really thing Disney/CP poured millions into these projects and DIDN'T get expert opinions from soil engineers?

YES!!!!!!!!!!:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::sohappy::sohappy:

I was waiting for someone to bring up Magnum. I guess the Contemporary is gonna be WDW's version of Magnum myth.

I couldnt agree more The Hancock Tower was sinking and shifting in Boston after they built it so bad widows were popping out, another place where they filled in swampy ocean to build on. Same things happen in Manhattan.

While it's under a gag order, the overall consensus for the reason the windows were popping out had to do with the pressure gradient from the outside, through the sealed double pane, into the inside of the building. There were foundation problems with the building, but they were not the cause of the window situation. That had more to do with the glazing used, and the way the glass heated and cooled throughout the day. If it was a foundational issue, just replacing the windows with better, heat-treated glazing wouldn't have solved the issue, which it in fact did.

I don't mean to attack, just clear up some information for those who care to know.

Again, I don't mean this as an attack. But why are you defending this rumor so vigorously, if you indeed believe it's just a rumor? If it's a rumor, then by definition, even the person who told you the rumor does not have any idea if it is true or not, so why try to defend a rumor that absolutely NO ONE could know if it's true or not. I don't understand why you care so much that other people's opinion of this rumor is garbage.

And a friendly suggestion, instead of posting the link to your picture in almost all of your posts, just put the link in your signature if you want everyone to see it every post. Save yourself a bit of time.

I wasn't aware that I had to be a popular kid to play on this playground.
Is it limited to Kool-Aid drinkers on pixie dust highs only?

Oh, and please don't make disparaging remarks about my home as it is not condescending. Most people find it very welcoming and warm. Of course we just call it a home, not a manor too.

Well, you're contradicting yourself. Am I entitled to an opinion or aren't I? And do you have to agree or approve it? Hell, if nine out of 10 people don't like what I have to say is it going to be off with my head?

As to name calling I have no idea what you're talking about as I haven't called anyone a name ... believe me, if I had you'd likely be the first to know as your 'tude is a real downer, dude.:drevil:

Wow...how intelligent of a reply.

In reality, it is your attitude ('tude...wow...how intelligent!) that is the downer. Nothing Disney does is good enough, you are smarter and know more than EVERYONE else here, and your opinion is the only one that counts.

With that said, my part of this argument is over. I refuse go get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

After further research, I did find an old photo that showed the contemporary on opening day. It was actually 17 stories tall. Apparently, the sinking has created what they now use as a basement and sub-basement.

I'm totally kidding, and this is in no way meant as an attack against the original poster. I'm just poking fun at the serious turn this thread has taken on in the last few pages.

There are plenty of examples of structures having these problems even with all the research, planning and best intentions. A large structure in Italy, there's a building on my old college campus that settles unevenly - one side settles faster than the other, etc.

But seriously...
Any news on that Monsters Inc. coaster...

(still trying to blatantly change topic)

To be fair, that's not true. He constantly praises many of Disney's parks, just not the ones in Orlando. I've never understood why its considered such a bad thing to demand the parks (who are increasing their fees every year) hold themselves to the standard that they used to do all the time.

Just returned from Downtown Disney (amazed the thread is still going, everyone loves a rumor)

Well here's a hot one I saw some people on a barge behind (I think) the Adventurers Club driving pilings into the lake, I asked a CM they told me Pleasure Island is sinking, thats really why they closed the clubs, they will be driving more pilings to anchor it I was told. This came from a very knowledgable CM. Remeber its just a rumor.

:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:Just kidding!

I really can't imagine anyone is taking as the word of God, like I said it's a rumor take it or leave it, honestly with the shape the country is in now I think we all have more to worry about whether The Contemporary is sinking or going to be torn down, rebuilt etc......

I just find it so interesting how a thread can twist and turn throughout the day, you have to admit it has been entertaining and at least it seems to have kept some people interested.......

Side Note: 3rd year in a row we visited week after Thanksgiving, Great time, Having an easy time walking up to dinners without ADRS Exception le celliar(Not on Dining plan, not sure if that makes a difference or not) Crowds seem moderate but seems less people are spending money at the resturants. House Of Blues was a Ghost Town, Planet hollywood as well, walked right into BoatWrights at Port Orleans. Great time of year to visit.

Thanks Spence! I believe you can confirm that the GF is sinking, as we saw near the elevators with the rather LARGE crack in the wall. I guess that's what happens when you build on a man-made piece of land on a man-made lake...

yes, I believe even more metaphorically that that resort is sinking... Hence my move to Yak & Yeti.

Uhhhhh... people like this 1974 cat make me not want to come on this site anymore. you take yourself way too seriously and kill the fun for any of us. your info is usually garbage for the time youve been posting here you just attack people. wierd tact for a wdw board.

So sorry to ruin your fun.

But I come here to have intelligent, adult discussions about a place I am passionate about.

I don't care to blather on about stuff that is pure BS. If that means I take myself too seriously, then guilty as charged and quite happy about it.

But don't lie about me. I haven't attacked anyone. Just their points. That's what adults do when they're arguing and debating.

As to my information being garbage, if I said that about someone else I'd likely be accused of attacking them. But I don't care, I'm a big boy ... and I have facts on my side when I post.

What do you have?

Pixie dust?

Your plush collection?

Some of us prefer phoney crap.:D

Right.... it can lighten the mood and give everyone a good chuckle. Its also fun to banter around the possibilities if we for fun assume it might be true.
Gives a chance to debate what they should do differently, if given a chance.

Thanks for attempting to set the record straight, not that'll likely work but I appreciate it.

And to set the record even straighter, I do praise the Orlando parks when I feel they deserve it ... especially EPCOT and DAK, which really are the reason I travel there so frequently.

But yeah, being an APer in Anaheim and Paris ... and visiting HKDL for the first time this summer ... and cruising on the DCL ... and spending time at the DVC resorts in Hilton Head and Vero ... well, I see much more things deserving of critcism at WDW.

I KNOW that Disney can do better. Not just in other resorts, but in Orlando too.

And I think that's what galls some of the younger (and certainly not all or most) members here ... as well as some of the people who are a bit less discerning and don't notice the falling standards and massive WalMarting.

If all you know is a lesser Disney product then it stands to reason you might not want to hear that The Mouse can and does do better.
