Well, what were the plans for it? We can match the scope of the plans to the plot size.
Info is sketchy at best; we know it had a small darkride, a theatre and a waterside bar. That could be a multitude of plots, and Epcot plots move more than pieces in a game of chess.

Here`s what I do know - note Africa has had 2 different proposals, Switzerland was moved depending on Africa or Italy having water rides to share the infrastructure, the UK has had a phase 2 and phase 3 proposed, and Russia was moved when the EPCOT Resort area was planned.

Me neither, and it shows up on no paperwork.

Anyone?

I'm trying to jog my memory, and here's what I recall. The Africa sign was exactly where the Refreshment Outpost is now. I would put money on that location. I believe Israel's sign was where Norway is, or it was in between Germany and the Africa sign.

I have to believe Spain's sign was over by Morocco.....it just had to be.

So the "Arfican Outpost" they have now is just one locations that were thought of? That's new...

The Africa sign and it's location I remember like the back of my hand. That area was totally vacant so the sign was the only thing to look at!

I have the "sign" from the '82 pictorial. No sign of it in the actual area.

What do you guys think? Two pavilions in between China and Germany?

I read on a thread awhile back that Austraila could possibly be the next land added to Animal Kingdom, but haven't heard anything further than that.

I agree something NEW needs to be placed into the WS. A ride would be GREAT, Maybe a roller coaster that intertwines into all countries, "Around the world in 80 days!"

or add a "Caribbean" showcase "tie-in my favorite resort" and place a new POTC adventure/ride. A restaurant serving some Conk dishes, People saying ya mon, rum runners, pina coladas....
The thing with Australia is that there is so much more to it than what would be shown in the AK. You still have Sydney and Melbourne, there is so much culture there I think it would be better served at Epcot than at the AK. That is just my opinion though.

I agree, although Australias wildlife i pretty spectacular, its culture is great too.

I think Eygpt would make a great addition, imagine the attraction possiblities :)

I have to agree that Egypt would be a great country for the world showcase. The potential for attractions and revolving exhibits is just so limitless. It's also a country that is fascinating on many different levels to people of all ages - children and adults.

Oh my gosh... in addition to my previous post about adding Egypt or Greece, I almost just said add Italy but then I remembered it's already there! For me, it's kind of easy to miss.

It's disappointing to me, especially being Italian.
No attraction...just shops and a restaurant that I've heard mixed reviews about.

They could have a great attraction about Italy's history, Rome, artists and sculptors, gondolas, food, landscapes, Mt. Vesuvius ...but no.
It's too bad really.

I'm more of an outback person, so the culture, although intriguing to some, just wouldn't get my rocks off. I'd rather see Aboriginies, crocs, taz devils, kangas, mix in some oceanic aquatic life and you have the Animal side of Austrailia.

Then place the supporting culture land in epcot.

True, but there's no way to provide anything more than a partial, superficial picture of any country in an Epcot pavilion. You could design 10 entirely different but equally accurate Italy pavilions, depending on the particular time and place you want to emphasize.

I don't see how you could interpret Sydney, there's nothing about it that you can distiguish from other cities culturally wise in terms of architecture and stuff. I just don't think Australia is simply cuturally unique to be to an Epcot pavillion (meaning its just too similar to USA and Britain cultures). Somthing like Spain or Greece would make better pavillions IMO.

I agree, I'd love to see a gritty, dusty outback themed land at AK. Plus Australia has so many diverse animals, it would work perfectly at AK.

Indeed. Africa would have been where the outpost sign is today, and this is 2 separate empty plots side by side.

If Australia were ever designed for WS, we know it would have to feature at least one significant Australian building. So they'd throw up a small mock-up of the Opera House there. But, here's where it gets interesting. Whereas Germany, Norway, and Japan feature "gigantic" castles in the pavilion background, Australia would have only one choice for the object behind the Opera House - Uluru. So after quickly passing the Opera House replica, you'd quickly find yourself amidst ramshackle Outback-style "cowboy" buildings, gritty and dusty and all. And you'd be approaching the massive hulk of Uluru, which would also serve as a show building for what could be one heck of a Dreamtime-style theater-in-the-round or dark ride that could then veer into a look at the modern Australia.

If you want Australia in AK rather then Epcot, I think you simply go with the Outback theme and delete the Opera House from the plans. It would be a travesty, though, if an Australian land were built at AK without a great attraction inside the caves of a faux-Uluru.

I agree with this post. I see Australia more for its unique landscape and animals more than it's culture. Greece, India, Egypt have many cultural/architcetral icons as well as 1000's of years of history. Australia 200 or so years, and besides the opera house really nothing else that screams Australia.
