New Contemporary tower art

SpaceMountainUK. This is brilliant. It's Brilliant! You have to do something about this. This is exceptional. I can't believe how well it looks, do something! I'm all for it! I just don't know if they will demolish the other garden wing.

Then again it doesn't have to look exactly like that. They can leave the garden wing and just build on the north side. I still wish nothing would be done. I want the Contemporary to stay the way it is, however if Disney is in fact going to do something, I will hope it's something as brilliant as your render. Good job.

I like your design, much more like what I had expected the changes to look like. I honestly can't believe that any sensible person would design or approve that plan for the Contemporary. And for that reason I refuse to believe the plans linked by the OP are the actual designs for the addition.

Ditto! I couldn't agree with you any more.

The original concept art is based upon the elevations that were posted on the designing architect firm's website.

I don't recall, but has Disney made any official statements regarding Contemporary DVC? AK Lodge DVC seems to be more out there, attention-wise, while Disney is keeping Contemporary DVC under the radar....are things as done a deal as we are to assume? Maybe certain things aren't set in stone just yet?

Then consider this, why would Disney knock down a whole section of a resort just to rebuild something else onto it? Even though nothing seemed to be wrong with that section. While they start building the new AKV they are going to refurb and redesign the top 2 floors of AKL for DVC also.

NICE work SpaceMountainUK...I think its a nice alternative. By doing something like that, though, you'll further reduce the number of regular Contemporary rooms to add the DVC rooms. I'm not an architect, but looking at the size of the new wings, are there same amount of rooms present in your design as in Disney's proposed new tower?

By doing something like what you depict in your design it seems as if they can't take advantage of the view the larger tower would afford so the gains are somewhat diminished while the costs (more demo, etc) increase. Therefore, loss of money.

Good stuff!

Oh, I don't doubt that the DVC tower is coming...I just don't understand why we haven't seen at least a press release.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.....I hope one day I can work at WDI and share some of my ideas! lol....anyway bck on topic like some people have said its unlikely something like I have showed would be considered as they have demolished only 1 wing and refurbed the other so I think something is going to be built but I hope they reconsider the design as Architecturally it just doesnt look right, and you dont need to be an Architect to see that......in answer to Rayray I did this in about an hr when I had some spare time

It looks alright to me.
Its kinda like a new hairstyle when you first see it you freak but after a while you get used to it.
For people like me who have been to WDW since 1971 its really weird to see this massive building next to the Contemp but after a while (hopefully) it will look in place.

I think that's a good way to put it. I am not against this addition, but it seems I am in the minority of this topic. Before you know it this will be forgotten and people will move on to being against some other expansion.

EDIT: Spacemountainuk - I also like your version a lot better... i think it's great (aesthetically). But I'm sure they picked the model that they felt would make the most money. Like it or not, thats how it is.

PS. Remind me to hire you to design buildings for me when I'm rich.

Brilliant new design. It is to bad you don't work for Disney. You have a common sense approach to the concept.
Have you ever thought about running for president in '08? We could use your common sense approach to current problems.

:sohappy: I can repeat every compliment that all the others posted, but you read them already. So all I'll say is this:
I like the C tower - but build it somewhere else.
Your Idea fits in better and would compliment, not overshadow the Original Classic!
Great Job!

SpaceMountainUK - Add my name to the list of people who think your concept is fantastic, much better than the proposed drawing. Great work!

Maybe you could remove the convention center building which I had always thought was in conflict with the Conemporary tower. :)

Hi all...

I modelled it on Sketchup...its a great program to do concept sketches with and its easy enough that you really dont need a guide on how to use it, basically its click and go...

Thanks again for all the compliments on my sketch design

I have to say, I do like your art. As for the concept building, I like it, but not with the Contemporary right next to it because it overshadows the classic resort. Maybe they could go along with the idea of two separate small towers on either side with the same design??

I was thinking about a buying a CAD program but I didnt know which one to get. The pics that UK put up is something that I would like to do on a CAD program.

They are all different based on what you want to do. Some versions are tailored to engineers (more technical things like masses, centroids, material analysis, etc. go into these types) and others are for architects and artists.

BTW, if you don't exactly know how to use CAD programs, you might want to be careful in your purchase. Some of them can be more complicated to run without education, plus from what I understand some cost upwards of $5000 (if you get all the bells and whistles). They do sound fun to play on, though.

Ok good news and bad news. First the good news. My heart stopped when I read your title as I thought they were replacing Mary Blair's wonderful mural in the concourse. Now the bad news. This design totally looks out of place next to the wonderful A-frame of the contemporary. It would be an ok hotel in its own right but there is nothing elegant about it compared to the wonderful original contemporary design.

Big thumbs down from me. I'm not even certain its better than the North Wing which was there before. They certainly didn't look contemporary in any way so I wasn't upset to hear they were leaving (in fact they looked like a bad Motel 6 to me) but at least they were understated and didn't take away from the grandeur of the Contemporary. This just seems to be a garish half circle rising in the air and attempting to distract attention away from the design of the main hotel.

I completely agree with that entire statement.
