They are all different based on what you want to do. Some versions are tailored to engineers (more technical things like masses, centroids, material analysis, etc. go into these types) and others are for architects and artists.
BTW, if you don't exactly know how to use CAD programs, you might want to be careful in your purchase. Some of them can be more complicated to run without education, plus from what I understand some cost upwards of $5000 (if you get all the bells and whistles). They do sound fun to play on, though.
I use AutoCAD 2006 and I've never had a problem with it...I mostly do 2D stuff but it does have the 3D technology. I know there are better 3D programs out there though.
