New attraction for AK?

You've obviously never had an extraordinary Safari ride. Go one afternoon around parade time when the Rhinos are most active, then maybe you'll understand the thrill of live animals.
Bring a paper lunch bag. Near the giraffes, blow it up, hold it outside vehicle, then pop it. Point immediately at the people in front of you. Use the confusion to quickly get out your camera and be the only one to snap awesome pics of stampeding giraffes.

I always feel like I am missing something on threads like this...but if someone is going to talk about "rumors floating around", then why not say what those rumors are?

As in..."I heard that TDO is looking at building XXXXXXXXXXX at Animal Kingdom and the rumor is that it will include XXXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX. I have seen this rumor posted on several competing sites and my bus driver and monorail conductor told me this rumor on my last trip to WDW last week".

Why not tell us what you have heard instead of being so mysterious about it?

I know forum rules don't allow posting links to competing sites, but I've seen other people paraphrase what they learned there and then discuss the information here.

Because people like to stir things up on here with rumors. I could sit here and think of a Disney "rumor" out of thin air, post it saying "I heard this from a bus driver", and see pages and pages of people replying to it like it was a hard fact.

Asia expansion
Australia
South America

An Asia expansion, adding a new attraction to the undeveloped space between Asia and Rafiki's, would be relatively easy and add much needed capacity to the park. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

In the medium term, I certainly think an Australian or South American land would be cool, but I'm skeptical that they'd add another full scale "land" until Pandora is complete (or totally abandoned).

Perhaps with budget being the driving force in all TDO decisions, maybe a "land" isn't very practical at this point. Instead, I'd be thrilled with an attraction(dark ride) built on a large scale (Horizons, SE) that uses advanced AA's and other cutting edge tech to show us creatures of "mythology" from around the world. Greek, British isle's, Scandanavian, Asian, Native American and everywhere else. Merchandise, check. People eater, check. Operational past 6, check. Will this happen? Nah, but as long as I'm dreaming...

I do recall someone actually saying that Joe Rohde was rumored to be attempting to cannibalize Avatar's budget in order to fund other aspects of improving AK (like building another different attraction as well as fixing what was broken in other rides such as the Yeti). Might have been M.rudolf who said it but not sure.

I wonder if part of it is that Rohde feels that with Pandora being delayed that something needs to be built sooner and is arguing for part of the Pandora budget to go to a more immediate attraction while the details get worked out with Cameron for that land.

There was originally a sizeable chunk of money set aside to get the park ready for the additional crowds that Avatar would bring. Lots of things were discussed. Kali Refurb, Dinoland Work, Everest Work, Etc, in the end the only thing to get the green light was the zebra expansion at The Safari. The rest of the improvement money went down the drain. Although with the state of Avatar going in and out of stalemate, who the heck knows where the money is going now...

A new attraction in Africa?

Mystic Manor nearing completion (and getting lots of good buzz) over in Hong Kong

SeaWorld opening their trackless dark ride experience later next year

A chance for Disney to add a (much needed) family friendly, quality dark ride to AK, while offering some area competition

Huh....

Funneled away for the ever increasing Next Gen budget...?

Something I think would work really great for Animal Kingdom (and give a reason to keep the park operating later) would be a night Safari. Similar to the one currently in Resorts World Senstosa, Singapore. It's extremely popular over there.

But the animals have to go to sleep ...

It would be a separate attraction with nocturnal animals that opens when kilimanjaro closes. You kind of "force" families to stick around all day to do both attractions, which I'm sure Disney wouldn't mind. I'm sure Disney would love to reuse Kilimanjaro, but logistically it would be a nightmare to swap out the day animals with the night, apparently it takes them 3 hours as is to move them to their pens.

Queue up for a new hard-ticket event! Hehe
