New attraction for AK?

Here's what I don't know...suppose the next Avatar movie tanks. However, let's suppose the land at DAK has one awesome ride, one good ride, and one solid family dark ride. Plus, it's over the top pretty and the plants glow at night and we get occasional surprise fly overs from the flying creatures that the Navi use for transportation. Would it still drive up theme park attendance? I think in the long-term it would.

And I don't think "keeping it open passed 6pm" is the problem, most people call it "half day park" now, not having enough stuff to do from 9 to 6 is the problem

So what is Avatar? In the eyes of the current management it is "something unique and special" it is a signature attraction that will get people in the door. In my opinion Avatar fits AK about as well as Nemo fits the Living Seas, "kinda sorta" if you want to argue about it... go ahead, but why is Nemo there? because there are a lot of aquariums in the world, how do they make their aquarium special? add Nemo, he'll get people in the door. That's why Nemo is in the Living Seas, and that's why Avatar is coming to town... PERIOD.

And as ironic as it is that I have to write this on a Disney message board... A lot people go to Disney World, because THEY LIKE DISNEY STUFF, I happen to be one of those people, and I think if they are going to add something to Disney's Animal Kingdom... maybe it should be something DISNEY RELATED? Because half their films are about princesses and the other half ARE ABOUT ANIMALS, I'm not going to list them all, but there's a lot of them

If you love Avatar and the Avengers, that's great, I liked both those movies too, but I really don't have any burning desire to go see them in person. If they do become theme park rides, I hope for your sake they don't suck, I personally don't care one way or the other. I would rather see Tinker Bell, or Jiminy Cricket, or anybody who makes me feel like I am in fact in Walt Disney World and not Mall of America, some big warehouse full of other people's crap, which unfortunately for me is what it slowly seems to be turning into

1)Yep if they could close the animal exhibits so the animals go to sleep...and have attractions which focus on imaginary and extinct animals and night time spectacular people will feel the urge to stay longer.

2)No...Nemo isn't a great addition to a pavilion that didn't need it. If I wanted to see sea life every trip I'd go to SeaWorld. Just because you can do something ... doesn't mean you should...before Pandora is/maybe/won't built a version of Albion celebrating the great Medieval type creatures would be great add for AK

3)I like Disney stuff - I don't like Disney's UNHEALTHY love of synergy though. Anthropomorphic animals are about as appealing as sticking needles in ones eyes. Should 101 Dalmatians be added to AK? Nope! Should Rescuers be added to AK? Nope!...The list goes on.

4)Not every park needs characters 2 parks should be enough for you hugging a teenager in fur, than removing the last park with a cohesive structure - because you can't hug a princess.

What if in Africa they did an elephant attraction?!?! One where you can ride the elephants and they fly around in a circle?!?! that would be awesome!!!
Another spinner?! Oh joy! :D

Haha, just kidding. But it would be neat if they did a family dark-ride about the threat of poaching wildlife. It could be fun and entertaining at the same time.

cool idea but I doubt that would happen seeing as the whole plot to the safari was changed

...but, the Tree of Life theater already uses cartoon characters to tell its story. What's the qualitative difference between Disney fairies and Pixar's talking cartoon bugs?

Apart from Flik that hosts the show (and Hopper's appearance), the bugs in the show aren't from Bug's Life. They were created specifically for the attraction.

Also, bugs live under the ground, which is where the theater is. I don't think fairies supposedly live under ground

Building on this, It's Tough to Be A Bug opened in April, just over half a year before A Bug's Life. The film had to stand on its own because not only had people yet to see the film but there was also no waiting to see if A Bug's Life would be a franchise.

I'd like an attraction in AK that uses TT & RSR ride tech and involves a giant mythical creature inside an erupting volcano... Bonus points if the mythical creature is of the fire-breathing variety.

I'd also like a John Hurt talking AA Dragon warning us "warlocks" about the natural order *swoons* :p

So, basically, what was potentially rumoured to be coming with Mysterious Island? ;)

I love the idea of South America as someone else posted. I mean, a gigantic paradise falls with Carl and Ellie's chairs on top. A land where you enter into the "Up" house and, similar to one of those moving theaters, but with much better technology, Carl, Russel, and Dug take you on a tour of the wilds of South America. Kevin, the colorful bird, could have some kind of experience too. I'm just saying...it'd be sweet.

I don't see anything wrong at all with adding characters like that to DAK. I don't think it should be the focal point and it shouldn't disrupt the overall theme of the park, but adding appropriate characters to the park in the right setting can compliment the offerings, not detract from them.

Personally, I think that Bambi and Jungle Book are classics that really deserve a presence in WDW and would both be perfect for DAK. And I wouldn't mind seeing a return of Tarzan and Pocahontas in some capacity (I thought the Pocahontas show was a great blend of characters and real live animals).

Oh you! At Animal Kingdom, they already have a giant, awesome mythical creature in a mountain that interacts with riders in a way never seen before!

Oh, wait...

A second prehistoric attraction to take the place of Dinorama would be sick.
Both myself and Randy Savage have posted ideas about a potentially amazing replacement attraction for Dinorama. His was called Mammoth Falls if I recall correctly, a log flume style attraction similar in thrills to Splash Mountain involving mammoths.

My idea was somewhat similar though I felt it a good idea for the ride to be a bit more tame, but broader in scope than just mammoths as the species (though they'd appear in the attraction). I propose a rename of the entire land from Dinoland to "Prehistoria", a land that celebrates not just dinosaurs but celebrates any kind of extinct animal. I also agree with Randy Savage's proposed expansion to Countdown to Extinction as well as the addition of the Excavator.

My version of the replacement of Dinorama (just the carnival, the rest of the attractions stay) would be called Prehistoria River. Again a boat ride similar to Pirates (including its more tame style of drops), only with a far more massive several story tall show building. Each level would be dedicated to one of many ages of extinct animal life, with the beginning through the end of the level moving through that era and the changes the animals underwent throughout their species' existence (animatronic figures and real sets of course). Each area ends with a drop to the next level to transition the jump from one age to another. The ride would ascend to the very top at first, the top most level would focus on the earlier forms of life on the planet and how they evolved into fish and amphibian types of creatures. The second level would focus on the age of the dinosaurs as well as some of the earlier forms of mammals and birds. The third level would focus on the ice age with creatures such as mammoths, megatherium, and saber tooth tigers. After a final drop the ride ends with a scene back to the present time showing fossils of the many animals showcased in the ride and animatronic figures of people digging and studying these remains.

I really like the idea for both but especially the boat ride. I was thinking of a ride called Treasure Hunt where the boat is lifted to the top and then through a series of smaller drops would tell the story of a treasure hunt. The ending would encounter a dragon that guarded the treasure as the boat transitioned to coaster track (ala water coaster) to escape down a speedy curving twist into a splashdown (no soaking). The end would be a cave filled with treasures (ex. diamonds, gold, etc...) before going back into the station. For your ride, the last drop could be the trip forward in time (throw in a little peril such as some large extinct animal charging to start the final descent).

I could not care less about more new animals at AK. I have a very excellent zoo near me where I can go if I have a yen to see animals. I don't go to Florida and spend big bucks to visit WDW to see stuff I can see at home. Pandas? I can see them just fine on Youtube.

Now, an animatronic TALKING panda...now that's something you don't see every day. ;)

You've obviously never had an extraordinary Safari ride. Go one afternoon around parade time when the Rhinos are most active, then maybe you'll understand the thrill of live animals.
