MontyMon’s August Adventure Redux

Our third time in August because Morgan is in grades where missing a week is no longer viable… You’d think we’d be used to the heat!

Day 1

August 22nd I was up at 4AM, showered, finished the last bit of packing, got everything to the door ready to load before waking his nibs… When much to my surprise, who should wander down, dressed and ready to travel? Morgan! So we loaded up the car and despite the overstuffed suitcase almost not fitting in my trunk, we managed and headed for the airport. We arrived at 5:30, I had planned for 6, but him getting up and dressed independently had thrown off all my timings.

Turns out everybody else was as early and had almost all checked in. We bought some candy to suck on on the planes and patiently waited. We departed Ottawa a slight bit late, but managed to make up time and arrived in Toronto a tiny bit early. Cleared U.S. Customs in record time and then waited some more… Our Orlando flight was late leaving and late arriving, we landed at 1245PM and we at the gate at 1:05. We were off the plane, to DME and on our bus in 15 minutes! We were on the road to WDW 10 minutes later! We were actually checking in within an hour of the plane arriving at the gate!

Check-in took a little time because we had two reservations, one for the first night on an AP discount and one for the following seven nights on a 40% PIN. The check-in lady was great, changed the two bookings to a “continuing” booking and they just slid new keys under the door in the morning [they sadly slid them under the door after we had already departed for the day, but the thought was there]. I asked for a birthday button because I’d decided that my 50th [in October] is worth celebrating.

After we found our room [a little bit of confusion on my part had us miss a turn], we found it to be a very nice ground floor room with a walk-out patio facing the Tidal Pool swimming pool. I figure from our room it’s closer to walk to EPCOT than to the boat to EPCOT! Some room pics:

Once we settled what little stuff we had in our carry-on, we headed to DTD. I bought a few golf shirts [or polos as they’re sometimes called] and Morgan got some Lego, we ended up with way too much time allocated to DTD. With Virgin and Starabilia gone, we ran out of places to go long before dinner. We stopped at Ghirardelli’s for my favourite Decadent Drinking Chocolate mid-afternoon and then for shakes an hour and a half before dinner. Oops… Too much snacking meant neither of us even ate half our main course. But Raglan Road was still great! We shared a Scallop Forest [no pic, sorry... it looked so delicious we forgot] and then Morgan had Fish & Chips and I had their Shepherd’s Pie. Both were delicious and we were very tempted to keep eating beyond being stuffed, but decided to live to fight another day.

The Food:

It appears I caught Morgan blinking, it looks as though he has eyes painted on his lids…

On the way back, I bought the Mickey-head I-4 Highway sign and a Beach Club golf shirt. We unpacked our now present luggage and prepared for a long day at MK…

Great report as always Monty!!! You sure do love you some Tonga Toast... Think we might have to try it on our next trip!!!
It is Ambrosia on a plate! :slurp:

Great report, Monty!

You sure are committed to your Tonga Toast traveling back to the Poly every day to have it. I dunno. I love Kona Cafe for breakfast so much. I could go there every morning, too, but I think I'd alternate days with tonga toast and pineapple macadamia pancakes. :slurp:

Your Beach Club room was gorgeous! I loved the decor. It looked so inviting and relaxing. I hope to stay there someday, too.

The 1st pic I saw of your son I thought, "Wow! He's grown a bunch!" What a handsome guy. How old is Morgan now? I'm impressed by how independent a young man he is. We've been talking about letting the boys have a little more "breathing room" on our upcoming January trip by allowing them to go on an attraction or 2 alone while we do something else relatively nearby then meet back. Chandler will be just shy of 14 but is the quintessential fatherly figure. Brian will be 12. They're not mischievous and exercise pretty good sense so I think giving them a little space is in order as long as they are together.

Kim Possible sounds like fun. We really need to try this.

Thanks again for sharing all the fun. I'm glad y'all had a good trip and got to meet up with so many friends. That's awesome!

:sohappy:

Your room at Beach Club looks really nice. We cannot wait to stay there. You know, I have heard so many great things about Tonga Toast, yet we have never tried it. Also funny that you witnessed a 'drunk fight'. Excellent report - glad you got it posted so quickly. Tell Morgan nice pictures and nice camera!

Loved the report! England is our favorite Kim Possible country, as well. I think it's more immersive than the others, although they're all great. This is the first I've seen of the updated rooms at the Beach Club... they're beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Great trip report, thanks for sharing. :) I especially love your photos from the safari, you got some really good shots. The one of the baby elephant playing with the water is just adorable! I never manage to take many decent photos when I'm on the safari!

Another great chapter in the Travels with Monty saga!
Only one bad afternoon/evening rain episode...not bad for an August trip!

With all the polo/golf shirts you've purchased...how come none of them appear in any of the pictures? You must have had a whole extra suitcase for the trip home!

Thanks for sharing.

We scheduled Tonga Toast for days we were going to monorail parks, Epcot and MK. That way we get onto the monorail a few times and get our Tonga Toast as well!

Nine days, we were scheduled for 5 trips to Kona... :lookaroun

Morgan is 14 going on 40!

He's always been a very responsible boy and I've been letting him have more and more freedom to roam on his own. He has no interest in going it alone if I'm not otherwise occupied, but if I have something to do that either doesn't interest him or is at the resort and he doesn't need to be there, I'll let him have that time. We did have a bit of a talk about him not realizing that he hadn't heard from me when the phone issues occurred, but only in the general "it would behoove you to check" sense, not trouble. :D

Tell Morgan nice pictures and nice camera!
He's slowly learning more and more 'tricks' with it [too many different settings for me - if auto doesn't work, I'm lost]. The first safari driver we had suggested "sport" mode and it worked reasonably well, then Morgan found "quick snap" which worked even better. Now, if he can just get un-blurred shots inside Pirates and SSE... :lookaroun

He's my official photographer for a reason... He likes figuring out how things work. :D

Great trip report Monty! I loved the picture of your room. Would you stay there again? Thank you also for the tee shirt pictures. We love anything HM in this house!
Eventually I'd stay again. BC was nice. I'm trying to work my way through all the resorts. So far our only repeat has been POFQ, because I really love how small and quaint it is.

As mentioned above, try "sport" or "quick snap" modes for starters.

Morgan took 597 pictures this trip, there were lots of not-so-great shots too.

What happened to Morgan? He grew A LOT from last year! Looks so grown up!
I notice most when buying new pants every three or four months...

With the singular exception of my WDWMagic Golf shirt, every shirt I wore was a WDW-purchased Disney Golf shirt.

I pack an old military gunny-sack style duffel in the suitcase going down, all the dirty laundry during the week and any clothing purchased go in it and that leaves the suitcase for Morgan's Lego, books and any other more solid items [sometimes wrapped up in purchased clothes :lookaroun]

Nice to see another Ottawa family addicted to Disney. I was born in Ottawa, lived on Bolton St. near the mint and the cathedral and then moved to Vanier near Montreal Ave. What I miss the most are smoked meat sandwiches from Nate's and a Fat Albert sub. Nate's should open up shop in epcot Canada.:slurp:
