Monorail Purple Being Retired

If it's so "dumb" my friend, then why bother posting? Oh, and by the by, this is the "News and Rumors" section, hence nothing on here is true, and in fact everyone who has posted about this has identified this as a rumor. 74, I often respect your opinions, but this is a little, shall we say, over-negative, you are above this.

I didn't say the thread was dumb (this place can really be too much some/most times).

Dumb is a reactionary move to paint a new color on a monorail train as if that will somehow lessen the impact or negate the fact a young man died needlessly.

As others have said, most folks don't have a clue. There are probably folks getting on the monorail in Anaheim right now talking about 'yeah, someone died on this a few days ago'.

I don't really want to waste more lifetime on this.

But I hope both trains return soon and with their colors intact.

I also hope the amazingly arrogant management 'tudes that led to this (it was a disaster years in the making) NEVER again return to WDW.

I think they learned from Rock 'n' Roller Coaster that demonic guests will seek out areas where people passed away. They went to the extent of changing around the license plates on the vehicles so that guests didn't know which seat had the guest that passed away.

How'd you like to have that job....

To me, the absence of Purple would be more jarring than the presence of it. Every 5 year old knows the colors of the rainbow. There will be a lot of "Why isnt there a monorail purple, mommy?" questions.

I ask this question, would Austin want it retired?

Best thing they could do is take Silver back to the paint shop tomorrow, slap a purple stripe on it, have it back on the line, and everyone can play the shell game as to which train is which.

I really do not think the average park guest will even notice that monorail purple is no longer in service. Or the fact that there are 11 monorails with a different stripe. And honestly I do not think Disney cares what the now deceased employee would want.

I honestly don't think the color is going to be a big issue. I've had so many people ride up front with me talking on their cell phones about meeting people at certain stations and asking me, "What color monorail is this?" I'd say about 75% of guests are oblivious or do not pay attention to the colors.

I would like Monorail White, I always thought that'd be an interesting color (lack of color?)

Plus it would be distinctive without being TOO distinctive for Disney's liking.

Wishful thinking perhaps.

Pearl white...gleams in a rainbow of colors as it passes!

True Story:I found a guy had posted incorrect info. about WDW's monorail accident on a Facebook page. I wrote him a kind note about the accurate colors of the trains involved, and asked that he change the errors he posted...he wrote me, saying BLUE and RED WERE accurate, and I had no clue cuz it happened in CA! Oh Well!

Ahh.. I have never seen this film (which surprises me considering I am a film buff).. I have heard a lot about it. I need to check it out sometime

Cult classic...Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Tim Curry...

I get so talkative late at night...sorry for the Catch-up postings!

People are still going to know that it is Monorail Purple. If anything, getting rid of the color would only get more jerks asking which color was the one involved.

Whats the use of having a 7 million dollar train that is only used the first week of June?

Yeah... I went there.

ok.. i'm really upset that no one acknowledged this great comedic effort... :(

Oh no! What a travesty it would be if there isn't a monorail for each color of the rainbow!!

Besides, you never see every monorail in one day to even know which colors are missing.

Since Disney needs two new monorail cabs and repaint an entire train maybe it's time for a little prototyping for the new WDW Mark VIII style or color treatment.
Here's Bombardier's current M-VI model for inspiration:

umm you know they were based off the Disney World Mark VI right?

I agree with the many posters who say Disney will retire the color, not a vehicle. Like in Baseball, a team may retire a number in respect of a player, but they don't replace a position. Imagine if the Yankees retired the pitcher's position? That would make for an game. :hammer:

Yes, I do. I was just pointing out a different take on a cab configuration and paint job. While I'm not a fan of the blunt nose style and favor the current Lear jet look, I especially like the vents added to the lower guide wheel covers, the black window style the very smooth exterior look. While I think DL's monorails are very nice I think pushing a contemporary modern look in Florida fits better.

IMO if Disney is going to spend Big $$$ on two new cabs why not do a little R & D and make something unique. The interiors could be overhauled too. The inspiration picture below is a the interior of the current Bombardier M-VI (it's new, ignore the cardboard covering the floor) Of course, some LED lighting at night would be very cool.
