Monorail Purple Being Retired

I'm sorry but that's just sick, IMO. The same cab?

Why not? For me it would be a tribute to him showing that I'm not afraid to ride in the same cab. Whats the big deal? If they do bring it back, Monorail Pilots would more than likely have to use that same cab as well... Unless they use it exclusively for the resort beam, of course.

Sick... Not in the least. But then again, I'm not like the "regular" people in the world.

I agree, there's nothing sick about it. Most of us have stayed in hotels and rooms where people have died and may not have known about it. Not much difference here.

Exactly. What are they going to do? Not let guests ride in the front of Purple?

Guests: Why can't we ride in the front of this monorail???
CM: Someone died in there. Wait for the next one!!!

Hmm...I think until it's confirmed, I believe Purple would still be used.

Unless they plan a different, yet somewhat similar colour...

The accident is a tragedy, but there is no reason to retire a train (unless this is due to the extent of damage). There is no reason to "pay a tribute" to someone by retiring a piece of equipment (nor do I think there is any need to pay a tribute to him at all by the company or fans of the park).

At first I was kinda upset by this comment, I kinda thought you were being a total jerk. But, if you think about it there have been other CM deaths fairly recently and you really never hear anyhting about them after a day or two. It wasnt that long ago that a CM died after falling off of a platform at Primeval Whirl and they didnt retire anything or do any kind of tribute to her. Obviously, it is very tragic and it is also important that these people be remembered so I am kind of torn on the subject.

Considering that they have just very recently invested in upgrading the existing Mark VI monorails (New monitoring systems, new flooring, new hand railing configurations, etc..) I would be very surprised if they were planning to have new trains built soon.
Not to mention all the problems they have been having with the Mark VII's in Anaheim.:animwink:

True they can use purple for parts but not just to repair pink. They can use purple's parts for all the monorails and I believe certain repairs or replacements on any monorail could be done quicker.

Back in shop there are TONS of spare parts for the Monorails, its amazing. Id be willing to bet the farm that the back cab of Purple will be used to replace the back cab of Pink. So when you ride Car 6 of Pink, you'll be riding a little piece of Purple anyways.

IMHO bringing Purple back would be the way I would want to be remembered, but I'm not the one who decides such things.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I think that retiring Purple would be suitable.
It's a gesture in honor of him, but not something any given guest will notice.

Disney will most likely retire the color simply because they will not want a reminder of what happened. If you keep the color and people remember what color it was then any time they are there and they see it they will be like"thats the monorail that someone died on" If you do get to ride in the front again they will most likely ask the driver about it. Disney will not want the guests seeing the color and getting a reminder of what happened. Its not what they want guests to think about when they are there. Sure it might be an honor to keep the color and sure it can be an honor to retire it.

^I'd wager that said average parkgoer wouldn't remember which colour it was anyway, but a good gesture just the same.

Agree. Retiring the purple monorail is a good tribute to Austin.

The average Disney guest doesn't know of the accident and if some do then they don't know the details.

Austin will be honored.
They'll retire Purple. That's a no brainer. Might even retire pink. There's plenty of colors out there to replace them.

I can't imagine they'd put up a publicly viewable plaque. I wouldn't mind, but there's plenty of people who don't want to be reminded of a tragic accident while on a Disney vacation.
"Mommy, did somebody die on the monorail?" No......................Disney won't let those questions be asked.

I think they learned from Rock 'n' Roller Coaster that demonic guests will seek out areas where people passed away. They went to the extent of changing around the license plates on the vehicles so that guests didn't know which seat had the guest that passed away.

Nobody wants to think about tragedy at WDW. If the purple color brings that up, and I'm sure they will research this, then it would be appropriate to retire that version of the color. There are many variants that could be used if necessary.

People spend way too much money to come to WDW to forget about their troubles. Riding around in a monorail with a plaque in it or in a color that takes the focus away from being on vacation simply has no place there.

...which have absolutely nothing to do with our Monorail System. Not only that, we wouldn't be converting the old trains into new ones, so if something was wrong like has happened in Disneyland, we wouldn't be totally boned.

Given the current economic climate and the rehabs of the trains over the past 5 years, you really think that Disney is buying 12 new monorail trains?

Yes! Wouldn't it be one of the best times to invest in new trains from a bargining standpoint?

What year were the current trains put online?
