Monorail Purple Being Retired

What would it's name be? Would you call it Purple or Stripe or something else. I think it looks wonderful!

It would be whatever color the main stripe was, say "Monorail White" or "Pearl." Who knows if they will chose that, but thats been a popular suggestion in the department from what I have heard.

Just as Black is trimmed with a red stripe, but called "Monorail Black", the new train COULD have a purple trim, but it wouldn't be called "Monorail Purple"

:D Thanks, board. Kinda exciting to know it's getting some traction, and that other folks are thinking this way too.

Have you heard anything more about the potential down-time for the two monorails involved?

I'm sure NTSB will be wanting the damaged cabs for some time while they investigate, but you had mentioned the previous plans to remove pink's damaged Cab 6 and Replace it with purp's undamaged Cab 6. Any idea when we'll be back up to 11 trains?

Nothing may happen ANY time soon, however:

In a petition filed July 9 in state Circuit Court in Orlando, Christine Wuennenberg asked that a judge hold an emergency hearing in the case. In the petition, she said she has "reason to believe" that evidence in Disney's custody may be destroyed, erased or altered.

Wuennenberg's mother also asked for a judge to grant her access to a range of evidence related to the crash, including video-surveillance footage, audio communications, and information from "black box"-type devices that record information generated by Disney's monorail operations.

I think we can all agree, that this mother is WELL justified in filing suit against the company..

Monorail Pearl sounds crazy-good! I hope they choose that!

:ROFLOL: En Garde!:fork: Seriously, though, I was just thrilled I wasn't the only one thinking about that idea to satisfy everyone. Color is both retired and preserved. And the average guest is none the wiser. (After all, they're tourists, what do they know? :D)

Here's a great shot of two generations of monorails working side by side.

I don't think that a plaque would be right, I think for those that know of the incident of purple monorail the purple outline of white or pearl would be a fitting tribute, and doesn't unnecessarily tell the public who are unaware.

Mono White/Pearl huh....

...while it sounds neat, i can hear people nicknaming it the 'Ghost Monorail' based on its color...:lookaroun

I would like to see Purple stay in the fleet ( color wise..) but i think it would be too disturbing for CM's. The mere sight of it approaching a station or going by overhead would probably be too jarring for the folks in Rails. If i was in there shoes on a daily basis, i know that as much as i honor Austin, seeing that train pull up would be a sad reminder.

So for the CM's i would like to think 'Purple' as we know it will be changed....maybe to a lighter color or a varient.

And regarding that report out about Austin's Mom asking for the Company to not 'obstruct justice' in the investigation.....

......I hope that works out for the best for everyone involved.

Some colors that would work, at least in my mind, would be:
  • Amber
  • Bronze
  • Indigo (though very similar to purple in color, so maybe not)
  • Jade
  • Teal
Pearl could work, but I just think it'd be a bit too dull...

To me, the absence of Purple would be more jarring than the presence of it. Every 5 year old knows the colors of the rainbow. There will be a lot of "Why isnt there a monorail purple, mommy?" questions.

First of all, 5 year-olds aren't going to really notice if the various colors of the monorails match the rainbow, so the absence of purple won't bother them. Second, there are technically only 7 colors in the visible light spectrum...and purple isn't one of them (though violet and indigo are).

Disney is retiring purple because it now has negative connotations associated with it. While many in the general public probably won't notice or remember, some will, and it's those "some" that Disney wants to forget. It only takes one voice to remind people what happened. I assume the train itself will be repainted.

Most people have a morbid curiosity about these things in general. I remember 10 years ago at the Six Flags park I worked at, the chassis of a rollercoaster lodged into the track and stopped the train upside down in a loop. When the train was finally repaired and put into service, that ride's wait time went from 30 minutes all season to over two hours, because everone wanted to ride that train.

And those same people are going to know that Monorail [insert color] is just a repainted Monorail Purple.
