Monorail Purple Being Retired

repost from another thread:

I think retiring the color should be the least that they do to honor Austin. Kinda like retiring a football jersey number.

There are plenty of other color names out there.

Heck if they wanted to keep a color that was close to purple they could do:

  • amaranthine
  • aubergine
  • cyclamen
  • fuchsia
  • ianthine
  • lavender
  • lilac
  • livid
  • mauve
  • modena
  • orchid
  • plum
  • puce
  • purpuraceous
  • purpure
  • purpurescent
  • violet

I think my preference would be to keep Purple. If not, then an offshoot shade, like Monorail Lavender or Monorail Violet.

Or, building on the Rainbow idea, something novel like Monorail Spectrum, Monorail Prism, or Monorail Crystal.

Other ones I'd like would be Monorail Copper or Monorail Turquoise.

I think it would be appropriate to retire the color. It would be good to give the repaired Purple train a new color because it places this incident entirely in the past. Having a new color on the system wouldn't be bad, and there are plenty to choose from. Brown, aqua and teal are possibilities. Even bronze could work, since Silver and Gold already exist.

Funny, I was thinking of the last two, as well. Teal?

And crystal would be cool...A shiny reflective paint would be epic.

I like the sound of Monorail Chrome, might need sunglasses to look at it....but when do you not need sunglasses in Florida. :lookaroun

How about an see-through acrylic body?

Monorail Clear

Yeah! They still have those snow globe domes around they took off the MK parade right? Hey they could tie it in with marketing for G-Force as it would look like guests were running around the monorail track in a big hamster ball! :)

I've always wanted to see them do Monorail Lime's stripe with glow-in-the-dark paint. And restore the dark blue portions, of course.

To me, the absence of Purple would be more jarring than the presence of it. Every 5 year old knows the colors of the rainbow. There will be a lot of "Why isnt there a monorail purple, mommy?" questions.

I ask this question, would Austin want it retired?

Best thing they could do is take Silver back to the paint shop tomorrow, slap a purple stripe on it, have it back on the line, and everyone can play the shell game as to which train is which.

However, most 8 year-olds will correct you, the rainbow doesn't contain "Purple", it contains "Violet"

With the exception of internet discussion boards, the only people who really know what colors were involved are the ones who live and work in Orlando/central FL.

I will be pi$$ed at them if that comes out as the 'actual reason' for not bringing the color/train back.

You're not suggesting that the internet is full of knee-jerk reactionaries who use accidents as ways to advance their own agendas, are you?

Since Disney needs two new monorail cabs and repaint an entire train maybe it's time for a little prototyping for the new WDW Mark VIII style or color treatment.
Here's Bombardier's current M-VI model for inspiration:

from what I have been told, there are no plans to reduce the fleet to 11 at this time..

12 (purple) will be repaired.... potentially re-colored, but repaired.

Mark VIII's are a few years away right now..
